Not in a bad way..... I mean use him to set a tone for how things are going to run around Redskins Park to all current and would be players. Just like making an example out of a high profile criminal serves as a broad announcement to the general public, the same thing goes here. Again i dont really care either way what happens, but getting upset about not cutting him and moving on is just as bad as grabbing your pitch fork and joining the mob that wants to hang him in the streets. Im thinking its not a big deal inside the organization. Until I hear players or coaches come out and say the Shanahan Allen regime is running the team like their predecessors its just a non-factor to me. |
Re: Redskins D-coordinator talks frustration over Haynesworth
I think there are two basic reasons why Haynesworth is still with the Redskins. (1) He was signed to a lengthy contract with a huge signing bonus and the team has seemed destined to get some production from him in exchange for their investment. Problem is, Albert has refused to cooperate in every way, utilizing his self centered demands to serve only as a distraction. (2) Driven by that determination to get "something" from Haynesworth they continued to put up with his antics and embarrassments hoping against hope that he would eventually come around. They were just as determined to not just let him walk and not get at least [what they feel] to be equal value in return. Convinced the guy has talent and can still play, they've been content to hold out for the best offer they could get in exchange. As a result, Haynesworth is still here because of the dilemma he presents. When teams are free to make transactions, I believe the conclusion has been reached that it's time to move on from "one" Albert Haynesworth.

I hope Haynesworth is as confused about what's going to happen with him as I am. :laughing2

And how could the league suspend him right now anyway?
They can't suspend him now, but they can (and will) once it ends. Goodell has already been on record saying the stuff that happens during this lockout will still warrant action if necessary. |

Of course hes going to say that stuff that happens during the lockout can get you suspended, he cant say anything else. |
Re: Redskins D-coordinator talks frustration over Haynesworth
Its not about teaching him a lesson, its about making AH an example and using him to teach the team a lesson. I don’t think Shanahan really cares about the money Danny spent on AH, I think its more about the laziness and unwilliness that AH shows, the fact that he took the bonus check (instead of finding a trade partner) then not showing up to minicamp, then showing up out of shape to mandatory camp, then refusing to play NT, and then pretty much refusing to play at all. Sure AH stole money from Danny (who wouldn’t), but he also betrayed Shanahan. Now AH is the main subject in teaching The Redskins (the players) a lesson.
I dont really care one way or another if we keep him or not but if I was forced to choose i think keeping him is probably the better option. And im pretty much cool with whatever Shanahan decides to do with him, im guessing he has a better idea with what resonates with a football team then me. And like Shanahan and Allen probably feel I honestly don’t think it’s a big deal or distraction for the team. Its probably awkward for the guy that has his locker right next to AH’s but that’s about it. Because of AH’s past play and massive contract hes a high profile dude and a lot of people are going to take notice when he f’s up. When a high profile crime is committed most DA’s try to send a message by really sticking it to the bad guy. This is pretty much the same thing. The media may boo-hoo whats going on or make it out to be a big deal, but so what. The Redskins happen to be one of the most dysfunctional teams in the country. Until we consistently win it doesn’t matter what the media thinks of us or portrays us as, because lets face it…… we’re irrelevant.
The Eagles didn't offer us a 4th for Haynesworth
Thats what Czabe and I think their chubby friend Florio said about a week or so ago on the radio. I figured they'd be credible enough. Did some quick googling, stuff about how the eagles declined a Haynesworth and pick for mcnabb deal and a AH and landry deal for mcnabb. Maybe it was the 2nd and AH, then Ah got replaced by that conditional 3rd-4th rounder. Thank goodness landry didnt go. Could you imagine losing him in return for 1 season of mcnabb? |

Re: Redskins D-coordinator talks frustration over Haynesworth
You can't do one without the other. He was brought in to win. That you are right on. That said, you aren't going to win unless you change the culture, and that all starts with overpaid players who refuse to get with the program. (mcnabb included)
I think if he's a distraction early on, you suspend him again for 4 games and sit him at home the rest of the year like the Bucs did with Keyshaun. THEN, you wait until the off-season and dump him.
I am not positive about this but I think that option is not available. When the Eagles sent T.O. home for the year, the NFLPA filed some sort of grievance and the NFLPA won. I believe that the most a team can do is to suspend a player for 4 games for "being a distraction" or things like that. After that, I believe the player has to be put back on the team or released. |
Re: Redskins D-coordinator talks frustration over Haynesworth
AH can dominate games when he feels like it and we certainly weren't the only team going after him. If I remember correctly his agents phone was ringing off the hook 1 second after midnight when he became eligible. Would he have laid down if the Giants had signed him? I really don't know. Switching to the 3-4 didn't help but the Redskins also have a reputation for overpaying a player, getting screwed, then releasing him to sign with any team he wants. Unless I'm mistaken isn't that what happened with Archuletta, Lloyd, etc.? I didn't want him here to begin with because this is exactly what I was afraid would happen. You can check my posts before we signed him. I was impressed with his talent and hoped for the best when he got here but absolutely do not want him on this team. I understand your point and agree with you Ruhskins, but if the Redskins decide to keep him and make his life miserable after giving him millions of dollars based on his agreement to go along with the changing defense, then AH breaking that same agreement that got him millions of their dollars...well I can understand their point too. We'll continue to sign FA's. Some will pan out some won't. It just seems some come here with the idea of getting paid, doing whatever they want, then getting released to sign somewhere else. No matter how good a player is, if that's their mindset based on the reputation the Redskins have among players in the league, a reputation we've earned, then why will it stop? Isn't releasing him exactly what he wants? Go to the Redskins and take the money and run. It's frustrating as hell and until the owners and players come to an agreement I probably just want to punish the SOB. No matter how it goes, hopefully we have a GM in Bruce Allen that will structure contracts in a way this kind of BS will no longer happen.
From what I heard, there was only ONE other team interested in Haynesworth as a Free Agent - - the Titans - - and their offer was reportedly in the $78-80M range. When Danny Boy and Vinny The Talking Head swooped in with their offer they were so far above anything else out there, the agent told AH to sign quickly before these guys found out what the competition was offering... |
Yeah the sports reporters were saying the eagles had offered us a 4th in last years draft. This is a sad, odd situation.
I agree with Ruhskins, time to just move on and I was one who wanted him to rot out on the bench for 2 more years. Eff it, he burned us for about 20 extra mil. Time to cut the losses and just move on . . . . after we find a way of ensuring he doesnt go to the NFC east.
I seriously doubt that the Eagles ever offered the Redskins a 4th round pick for Haynesworth. |

That's puzzling, b/c I thought the Bucs were interested in him too. |

Perhaps there is a third reason he is still here: After showing up out of shape and not being cooperative with the coaches about how and when he would play, Shanahan (with Allen's blessing/concurrence) decided that they were not going to cut Haynesworth and allow him to go out on the open market and take down another 8-figure signing bonus. [Sadly, he would probably get one somewhere...] So they kept him last year hoping to trade him at the draft - - but trades of players were disallowed so that idea went up in smoke. If my scenario is even close to correct, then Shanahan/Allen have to change their minds about giving Haynesworth the chance at another fat payday and stand by while that happens if they release him. OR they can try for a VERY late round pick in a trade. The problem here is that if my scenario is correct, that means that Shanahan/Allen have to look in the mirror and admit that Fat Albert beat them in this little stand-off. Ego bruises are lots worse than football bruises... |
The Titans?
What I heard was that the Titans made an offer of $78-80M with something like $25M guaranteed and then the Skins offer hit the table and the agent declared the auction over. I was not in the room when it happened - - obviously - - but that is the Cliffs Notes version of the story I heard... |

Well the Giants and Bucs were also interested

Re: Redskins D-coordinator talks frustration over Haynesworth
The Bucs offered a ton of loot too didn't they?

Re: Redskins D-coordinator talks frustration over Haynesworth
I think he was close to signing with the Bucs until Vinny convinced him he could do anything he wanted in the defense without consulting Greg Blache.

Re: Redskins D-coordinator talks frustration over Haynesworth
I was looking at Haynesworth's contract on the warpath cap sheet, and supposedly Haynesworth's contract with the Redskins can be voided if he returns 16.8 mil of the signing bonus. Do you think that it is a possibility that the skins play chicken with Haynesworth? The Redskins want him gone, he wants to leave. We could keep him on our roster for this year unless he returns some money. I know Shannahan/Allen/Snyder are super pissed about last off-season when they gave him the option to be cut/traded to a place where he wants to be or he could take 30 million in bonuses and buy into what the redskins are doing. He took the money saying he would do what the redskins asked of him but then later went back on his word, demanded a trade, and refused to play for the redskins as they asked him. I am by no means predicting this to happen, but I do think its a possibility that Shannahan/Allen/Snyder might just be pissed enough at him to keep him on the roster where he will be miserable knowing he is not wanted by anyone in hopes that Haynesworth will cave in and return some of his bonuses.

Unfortunately he is wanted by other teams, and the Redskins will need to suck it up and trade him. I'm sure the FO is pissed at him, but they just need to move on and continue rebuilding the team. No need to keep the circus around. |

Do we have an idea of what the offers will be? I find it hard to believe that after Haslett's comments/player comments/the suspension/the huge contract the future team will take on that anyone is willing to give up more than a 5th rounder, more realistically a 6th. How many teams are interested in him? the only way I think we could get value is if a bidding war starts. If I'm dan snyder, I might want 17 million dollars over a late round pick (and send a message that nobody can get paid in washington without buying into the team). That being said, I do agree with you, and I do think the circus is a bit too much, and if we can trade him, then we should trade him. I'd even release him over keeping him around to have him buy his way out. Bad for the locker room, and there is no guarantee that he would even agree to the buy out in this game of chicken (he probably already spent most of the money). I might think about this situation differently if I were snyder. I dont care who you are, how much money you have, when someone lies to you to take 30 plus million dollars from you, your mindset/priorities might be shifted a little bit other than purely what is in the best interest of the team. I could see any owner rationalizing the positives of not letting Haynesworth steal their money and lying to them in order to convince themselves that what they are doing is the right move for the team. An extreme situation, but mike brown refusing to get value for Carson/Ochocinco because he believes it is in the best interest of the team to set a precedent of honoring contracts (which he views as promises) is an example of this possible scenario happening elsewhere. |
Re: Redskins D-coordinator talks frustration over Haynesworth
if he is a third best DT then im hoping for a 4 maybe round pick. That would be great. 3 4th round picks plus a pick in at least every other round. I hope McNabb gains us another pick. Then if Carolina (i think they will get the first pick again) might let us trade up ten spots or so to get Luck or we can get another quarterback that we like.
|
Re: Redskins D-coordinator talks frustration over Haynesworth
I hope you're right.
We could be semi loaded with picks next year without trading down. |
