Does anyone know if there's a freakin center that's unrestricted and can come in here and get Racbach on the bench? We need an anchor in the middle of the line. I'm confused as to why the front office didn't try and find a 320lb monster that has skills...instead of drafting MORE wr's in the later rounds.
guessing that they're figuring that the answer is here whether it's Rabach, Lichtensteiger, Montgomery, or Cook

Re: 2011 Redskins Free Agent Rumors and Reports Thread

Not sure there were any 320 lb monster centers available in the draft worth taking.

They did take Erik Cook the year before, who funny enough is 320.

Any truth to this?

"Smart shopper: Mike Shanahan insists he's good with John Beck at QB, but OC Kyle Shanahan covets Texans backup Matt Leinart, who could be available. Also, Saints DT Remi Ayodele is one of the most unheralded but effective tackles in the league and could step in nicely."

The shopper's guide to*free agency in the NFC - John P. Lopez - SI.com

I have never been a Leinart fan.
If they're saying Remi Ayodele is of interest to us, that's the first I've heard about it.

As for Leinart, I talked about this a lot off-season because it seemed like a pretty serious possibility.

I thought that interest had faded away, but heard like 2-3 weeks ago it was still possible. I screwed up here, meant singular not plural (him, not them) but Leinart was the guy I was alluding to when I wrote the following line at the start of the thread.

But I don't think even KS believes Leinart is going to come in and start. He just likes the idea of having someone familiar with the system who can join the team this close to the start of the season.

And keep in mind, as much as everyone expects Rex to re-sign he's a FA so this conceivably could be a replacement for Rex.

"Vince Young still a possibility, but it's possible the Titans hold onto him until the last possible minute. And there are other, perhaps more controversial, possibilities. I'll just say I've mentioned them before"

^ ive been saying for awhile, wouldnt mind seeing what Lienart could do in the B & G. VY, even though not a fan of his past, would be a good signing to bring in at this point. I rather those 2 in the mix than Tarvis Jackson and Beck fighting Rex as the starter.

Right. There's no plan to bring in to be the starter. Not as far as I know. He's just an option for depth

While it is/was time for him to retire due to wear and tear, BF's sudden and final retirement was also a convenient way to avoid a more in depth investigation and possible suspension from the embarrassing sex-ting and possible sexual harassment issues from his Jets days. I don't think he wants more things coming to light and a possible suspension from the Roger Goddell's moral police.
This is not based on any facts, just my assumptions, but the timing all this last year was very convenient.
As much as BF wants to come back, he is not coming back. No way.

Wonder if Brett is going to Santana's party.

2 years ago, I'd say sure...bring Brett in. His last season was ugly though. It's clear that he is done now. He may have the heart to play and that had carried him through most of his career, but age and injuries finally took enough away from his abilities that no amount of heart can lead him to success any more. Plus, the "other" stuff he's involved in too.

According to this report, Peyton Manning is looking to wriggle his way onto the open market.

Long way to go before we go lending credence to this, but if this were to happen, drop everything and sign him for a gajillion dollars.

I agree, that move would be out of character for him. And I can think of one big reason this story could have been invented and leaked to the media. With Manning as part of the antitrust suit against the NFL, he may have the legal standing to hold up the CBA. So somebody (not Peyton) probably started this rumor on purpose to put last minute pressure on the owners.

I doubt that would accomplish much, just as I doubt there's any credence to it. But I could definitely see either side resorting to some funny tactics now that we're at 11:59 pm in the negotiating process.

Even Peyton Manning could not save this offense this year, not enough weapons and a porous line.

As for Kris Jenkins, I certainly didn't see that coming. Not sure what it means for us now. But it probably gives Maake another life. Which is disconcerting to me, because I thought he was pretty terrible last year and he even recently admitted he's not ready to play right now.

But practically, unless the anti-trust suit is settled the owners aren't signing off on the CBA. I agree with you, Irsay has been one of the rational owners and it appears one of the stabilizing forces behind settling the CBA. A little last minute squeeze on him by the players couldn't hurt their cause.

From the article:

NFL must satisfy Tom Brady antitrust plaintiffs to seal deal - ESPN

"If any of the plaintiffs were unhappy with settlement terms, they could object and opt out of the class action. That would not derail a settlement and would not, in itself, stop a new collective bargaining agreement.

But both the NFL owners and players have been working on a "global solution" that would include settling all legal issues surrounding their labor battle. And if the antitrust case is not settled, that could be a deal-breaker. According to ESPN legal analyst Roger Cossack, if any of the named plaintiffs opt out, the antitrust suit would remain alive in federal court."
