Well TBH if keeping Haynesworth around for a month means getting a better deal as well I'd be for that too, but that means we'd have to put up with dumb stories for a month like wondering if he'll pass his conditioning test again, or something else. Because I'm pretty sure even if Haynesworth does come to camp, he's still not gonna wanna play NT.

His private conduct does not mean that he prioritizes a pretty image over other matters, and that he's rather skilled at doing so. In short, a pretty public image does not necessarily translate into the person having the qualities defined in the word "classy".

My final words on the past four months or so - Lots done wrong by both sides both from a PR standpoint and from a pushing the edge of legal in the various court matters. Negotiations were incredibly tough because, whether deserved or undeserved, the players just didn't trust the owners. It looks like the end result was a good one, one that gave each side some of their key points and didn't give either side a full-on "win". Ultimately, the fans get 10 years of not having to listen about labor disputes and the game, as we know it, in terms of its structure and player movement is preserved.

I guess what I am trying to say is that, despite all the bitching along the way, a really good result happened and now football is back and going strong! On top of all that, not one regular season game was lost!

That's a victory for the league but honestly I think they need to look at examining the drug policy a little bit more. HGH has been known to help heal players faster and when I think of guys like Santana Moss, who got involved with Doctor Galea from Canada, and how they'd probably be suspended for this new policy, I don't think it's fair.

I know it'd be incredibly hard to police who's taking HGH for a competitive edge and who took a small increment of HGH to recover from an injury faster, but that's the way it should be IMO. I'm against players that take hgh just to get that edge, but I think it should be allowed in very small doses as part of recovery treatment for an injury, similar to the way Galea was using it.

If HGH is safe and it's only benefit is to help players heal quicker from injury why isn't it standard for NFL players to be given the drug when coming back from injuries?

I don't know about legalizing it. I mean technically it already is legal. However if what I'm hearing about it is true that it only promotes healing, not performance, then it should be utilized much more often.

Well I'm sure the only reason they haven't done it already is because players who aren't injured take it for a competitive edge. I wouldn't be the one to tell you if it does one or the other, or both though.

If all it did was to help heal injuries, it would probably be called Human Healing Hormone - - instead of Human Growth Hormone.

HgH is commonly - - and legally - - prescribed as part of treatment for small people. It makes them grow and get bigger.

Any correlation between that effect and possible advantage gained by a football player? Most people would say yes...

The players union had no real interest in "legalize and regulate" as a way of dealing with HgH; what they really wanted was nothing but a urine test for it - - because as of now there is no urine test for it. What is interesting is that the draft version of the CBA I saw related to "banned substances and testing" did not specify how they might test for HgH. If it is not a blood test, then the 2011 "testing" is only a formality. Maybe some day there will be a urine test for HgH but one does not exist now.

The owners are only opposed to HgH because that is the politic position to take. I doubt if most of them care one way or the other if players are using HgH - - so long as their team has the same proportion of "users" as every other team.

The other big news in the ratification is that Roger Goodell remains as the sole arbiter of the "Good Conduct Clause" in the standard NFL contract. There were several dozen players who were adamantly opposed to that situation continuing to obtain.

I actually can't blame the players who objected. Goodell, an agent of the owners, is judge/jury/executioner/appeals venue. Some semblance of an independent arbitrator, at least for appeals, would be more fair. It might also help Goodell's image among players. Then again, even an "independent arbitrator" ultimately would have to be on the owners' payroll.
