Speaking of beer...
Haha, what is it about natural disasters that makes drinking beer before noon socially acceptable? During the big blizzard a few years ago my dad and I cracked beers at like 10am while we were shoveling the driveway.

Re: F Hurricanes...not the football team (but f them too)
11am, looks like the high altitude wind shear saved our a$$ and we dodged another bullet (cat 1 is a lot better than a cat 3). Right now not much worse than a strong T-storm. A couple of isolated tornados popping up here and there though. Powers still on, less than 15K out of power in VB right now.
A few garage doors blown in and siding ripped off in Sandbridge (Oceanfront area). |
Re: F Hurricanes...not the football team (but f them too)
Hitting pretty bad here. Power out in most of city. Trees down everywhere

I'm finishing up my first Red Stripe and some eggs. I'm about 30 minutes from Columbia, what's the forecast in your neck of the woods? |

Re: F Hurricanes...not the football team (but f them too)
Just a reminder regarding power. Just because the power is down in your neighborhood DOES NOT mean the lines that are down are dead. People start hooking up Gen Sets and do not know to shut off the main breaker in their box and the gen back feeds from the generator (to the power company) and can "heat up" the local lines in the area.

lol I guess because you know you're not going anywhere for a while, might as well liven things up! |
Re: F Hurricanes...not the football team (but f them too)
I'ts funny how when these things hit the first thing guys think of is getting more beer. I have a frig in the garage that stays very cold and full of beer. I still purchased more beer and I can't even get it into the frig because its full.
I did the same thing, bought more beer when I didn't really even need it! |
Re: F Hurricanes...not the football team (but f them too)
I guess the attitude is if I'm gonna die, might as well go with a cold one in my hand.

Re: F Hurricanes...not the football team (but f them too)
She's only a tropical storm right now but I haven't seen winds like this from bigger hurricanes. Guess she got mad I called her a blowhard bitch

Re: F Hurricanes...not the football team (but f them too)
first ban coming through now, winds really picked up in the last hour, first substantial branches starting to fall. i got 22 trees on .80 acre lot so my house is surrounded by hazards. Damn i dont want to lose power.
FD or SS33 whats the report outta the beach area? |
Re: F Hurricanes...not the football team (but f them too)
Chico I feel ya. 4 hours now without power and no sign of letting up yet :(

FD or SS33 whats the report outta the beach area?
I'm still doing good. Power still on, winds/rain just like a strong T-storm. Per WVEC, one small tornado actually sighted at about 11am. Some trees down, not in my neighborhood though. Winds picking up a bit at 1pm. FD is a little more inland from me and may have actually gotten more of the wind/rain. Some structural damage in Sandbridge (kind of a mini-OBX, oceanfront area). You and NC Skin stay safe. |
Re: F Hurricanes...not the football team (but f them too)
Some North Carolina idiot is now dead because he went driving during the storm.

Re: F Hurricanes...not the football team (but f them too)
33,000 residents without power here. Most ever for Greenville.

You're quite a lucky dude to still have power. |

Re: F Hurricanes...not the football team (but f them too)
I still got power up here in NoVa, but the rain and the winds have picked up. I guess I'm pretty lucky, they're forecasting between 2-5 inches of rain and heavy winds for my area.

Re: F Hurricanes...not the football team (but f them too)

That's not bad. I've had a couple minor power outages, from what I'm hearing the brunt of the storm is expected to hit my area between midnight and 3 am. |
Re: F Hurricanes...not the football team (but f them too)
My power has flickered a few times, but holding strong right now. Finger's crossed. I've got the next few days off. Would suck to be without power.
|
Re: F Hurricanes...not the football team (but f them too)
You guys are pretty well inland and the real mustard of the wind speed will be spent as it came over the coast before it got to you.......your lucky as some of those people will be out of power for some days to come as power companies must clear the lines of tree before the lines can be replaced and the power restored.
|
Re: F Hurricanes...not the football team (but f them too)
We have had high winds and drenching rain here, but the power has only flickered once. I was supposed to work today until 3 PM due to an emergency at the plant, but they sent us home at lunch-time because of the detereorating weather conditions...

Re: F Hurricanes...not the football team (but f them too)
My house is cursed. Lost power for about 5-6 hours until 10:44 to night. The worst part? Most of the other houses around me except for two others had power just fine. WTF? This is in PG County near UMD.

That's pretty random. You had previous problems with the power going out to your house? |
Re: F Hurricanes...not the football team (but f them too)
I got a good picture of a house with the roof blown off from easier today. Ill try and post tomm or Monday.
|
Re: F Hurricanes...not the football team (but f them too)
Rain coming down pretty hard and it is very windy here in Columbia, MD. I think (and hope) this is the worst of it. I think the lights flickered a bit, I hope power holds. I have a flashlight with me just in case. I hope everyone is safe.
|
Re: F Hurricanes...not the football team (but f them too)
How did all fare the night? I guess we'll determine who still has power?
|
Re: F Hurricanes...not the football team (but f them too)
Lights flickered but I sill have internet and power....nothing major happened in McLean area...well, my neighborhood part of it looks pristine.

bored. pretty crazy when you see it on a bigger screen than your phone, that house is f-ed. how close was this to your place? |
Re: F Hurricanes...not the football team (but f them too)
i don't know how the area is as a whole but at my house in woodbridge the power never flickered and it never got to be anything i was really worried about. my wife said there were strong winds during the night that kept her up at some points during the night. but this morning there are still some of those flimsy ass election signs still up in our neighbors yard, so i'm guessin they weren't that strong
|
Re: F Hurricanes...not the football team (but f them too)
We had a lot of rain and some strong winds. The worst came while we were asleep in the midnight - 3:00 a.m. time. We lost power twice for about 5-10 minutes each time. Lots of water leakage, but no flooding.
|
Re: F Hurricanes...not the football team (but f them too)
heya, i'm in springfield VA and completely without power. thankfully I have a generator, but I assume post volume will be a bit low today.
|
No problems whatsoever in chantilly va.
That's pretty random. You had previous problems with the power going out to your house?
Well, this is the first time that this particular pattern happened. Last night, the neighbors FINALLY got knocked out, but then they got it back while my house and those other two STILL don't have power. The wiring of the lines must be funky or something. I'm sure there are more houses affected, but I must say, the lines are wired in such an unlucky manner for me. |
Re: F Hurricanes...not the football team (but f them too)
I'm finishing up my first Red Stripe and some eggs. I'm about 30 minutes from Columbia, what's the forecast in your neck of the woods?
I ended up staying at my parents' house in MoCo last night after going to my friends wedding in Cabin John. The power flickered there once but that was it.
The wedding was still fun. They moved it up a few hours and even though it was in a pavilion everything stayed pretty dry. Everything seems okay here in Columbia. I was a little worried about the way rain water pools on my porch (I'm on the ground floor of a garden apartment building) so I moved stuff from near there and my windows, but I don't think there were any leaks or anything. Also, the power was on when I got back and everything seems okay in my fridge so I guess I didn't lose power. |
