So, right now, who are the back ups on OL?
Cook apparently have made it - who else? Locklear? Hicks to be traded/cut, Hurt to the PS.
Willie Smith, undrafted rookie from E.Carolina. Right now we have 8 OL |
Re: Redskins Final Cuts
Also, on the Nield keep, maybe they see Golston/Nield as backups at NT and good 4-3 DT rotation.

Nield and Barry are the only "true" NT, though I imagine Has will slide someone else in there. I don't think the roster is set though. |

They aren't rebuilding if they're keeping old ass Sellers and going-to-get-old-soon Stallworth. |

I think when you keep 8 (not including Jarvis Jenkins) draft picks and another undrafted rookie make your team, ship off last year's QB, install an entirely new backfield, that again has two rookies....I could keep going but you get the point. Three 7th round picks made the team. I think we're rebuilding is my point. |

Re: Redskins Final Cuts
They aren't rebuilding if they're keeping old ass Sellers and going-to-get-old-soon Stallworth.
So they keep 8 draftees, an undrafted free agent rookie (W. Smith), a first year tight end (Paulson) & returner (Banks), and 4 draft picks from last year (Austin, Williams, Cook and Riley). Meanwhile they dump CP, Rodgers, McNabb, Haynesworth, Blades, Horton, Daniels & Holliday. But you're right, b/c they kept a couple older guys who showed up in practice and games, they must not be rebuilding. <sigh> |
Re: Redskins Final Cuts
Where's Buchanon and Moore?
I am betting Moore gets cut eventually. It will be interestng to see who gets cut when Buchanon is activated. |
Re: Redskins Final Cuts
Thanks for posting Joeskins but 8 WRs and only 8 OLineman? hmmmm something doesnt make sense...thats way to many WRs
|
Re: Redskins Final Cuts
Where's Buchanon and Moore?
SUspended and PUP. They don't count against the 53. |
Re: Redskins Final Cuts
Betting that one of the WR's is getting traded (Bold Prediction: maybe Armstrong???) and an OL is picked up from waivers.
|

same, if we need to have some growing pains in order to get to elite status I'll be happy to suffer them. |
Re: Redskins Final Cuts
I wouldn't be surprised if we picked up 3 OL and ditch some of the guys we have right now, our depth there is awful.

BA and Shanny are mos def working those phones right now. I bet we hit the waiver wire up too. This isnt the final roster imo. Depth at Oline shakey at best. Locklear is very solid though. |

I could see us picking up maybe one...and dumping one, but not all three back-ups. Seems like the team feels Willie Smith is a project they might want to work with, so he might be a keeper. |

Re: Redskins Final Cuts
First time in a while that there are so many young players who may contribute this year....no more sacraficial lambs...well Sellers is still there. I look forward to seeing what we have and then next year we can start to add other pieces to the puzzle!
We may struggle at times this year but we will get better! I hope we can have another offseason like this one. I am geeked to see players like Austin and Kerrigan and Trent Williams be the new cornerstones of the winning Redskins! Hail!!! |

Re: Redskins Final Cuts
The Skins will announce their cuts later tonight, according to this post on the NFC (B)east blog on ESPN. It remains to be seen if any trades have happened, since the deadline to get to 53 has already passed (6 pm). 23 confirmed cuts have already happened, check my above post for names. Either way we'll know all the details by the end of tonight, but more roster moves will probably be made in the coming days.

Re: Redskins Final Cuts
Also, on the Nield keep, maybe they see Golston/Nield as backups at NT and good 4-3 DT rotation.
They envision Neild being able to play different positions. When they move Cofield off the nose to DE (in some situations) he can play there as well as back up Carriker. Was actually surprised to see him make the 53, albeit a pleasant one. Artis Hicks was the final cut to get us to 53. The trade didn't go through. More roster moves will probably happen in the coming days.

We don't have a single backup guard on the roster
We don't have a single backup guard on the roster
Willie Smith did play some guard in college, but obvi he's not ideal for depth at this point. |
Re: Redskins Final Cuts
I'm a bit worried about our guard situation.
Do we make a move for Meriweather and try to sign him? With Moore hurt, and our Safety injuries piling up, not to mention OJ is 30+... Maybe making a move for him would be smart? |
Re: Redskins Final Cuts
We don't have a single backup guard on the roster
keep in mind we have C/G Will Montgomery C/G Chris Chester C/G Erik Cook Willie Smith who as an emergency could play guard, and I'm sure Locklear could play Guard in an emergency, and if worst came to worst we could use mr utility Lorenzo Alexander. But yes I understand why you all are not too satisfied with our guard situation. |
Re: Redskins Final Cuts
There are pieces of the puzzle that are not currently on the team yet. That is how I feel about the OLINE. BA and MS may have a few targets out there and they are waiting for cuts to come down.
It seems strange to me to only keep 8 guys, but at the same time if the players we cut garnered keeping MS would have them on the team. He is putting his OL together and so far he has 8 guys he likes. I would assume that they are planning on adding another body. |
