Still, there are always different ways to run a scheme depending on who's running it. I always say that some of the smallest details make the biggest difference. And I would think at this level, depending on how big their concern with the redskins line, the more they would want to get a competitive advantage. My assumption is that they are already worried.

Dockery at this point is a better fit for what Dallas runs vs what we do. Maybe he has some inside info to offer, but I think it's pretty minimal. I think more than anything they signed him for his ability more than his knowledge.

I don't think they were that high on his ability considering he's been available since march.

All I'm saying is I doubt the Cowboys brought in Derrick Dockery to somehow get a leg up on the Redskins scheme. And if they did, so effin what. Why not bring in Stephon Heyer or Casey Rabach or Artis Hicks? Why Dockery who wasn't even that good at zone blocking to begin with and lost his starting job?

Because they get the best out of this situation. A combination of the best player for their scheme and also someone with the redskins scheme knowledge.

I think they've learned that some young players did not step up as they had hoped. They couldn't know this in March but they can try to fix the problem now.

Mike Shanahan's scheme has been common knowledge for at least a decade and emulated across the league. A newb to that system like Dock isn't going to help much. Dallas cut Montrae Holland and chose Dockery instead. All signs point to trouble at the LG position for them.

Personally I would have tried hard to land Adam Weber but if the Shannys feel good about Crompton, cool. Any attempt to add talent to and get younger at the QB position is potentially a good move.

FWIW, Rotoworld is listing Eric Olsen as a center for the [U]Washington Redskins[/U].

As far as his ability is concerned, he doesn't need to be a world beater; he just needs to better fill a team need than someone else who was on our roster.

With the exception of Romo, Brady, and Cassel it's rare that a QB is a diamond in the rough, so to speak. The really goods are generally found in the first few rounds of the draft. And even then it's a crap shoot.

The reasoning can essentially be summed up as "why spend a first round pick on an undeveloped Blaine Gabbert if I can get an undeveloped Jonathan Crompton for free?"

I don't know if he's right or wrong (I suspect his guess is correct), but we're a year in now without McNabb, and Rex Grossman's still the starter, which at least suggests that Mike Shanahan hasn't quite discovered how to take an unwanted quarterback with a good skill set and make him a franchise level player.

I think he's on to something, but if John Beck is the best example of an unwanted player who fits what Shanahan is trying to do, I think it's difficult to believe to think Shanahan is close to finding an elite quarterback in the trash heap. Well, Shanahan did extend an offer to Romo during his time as Denver's HC, but Romo decided to go to Dallas.
