What happened to us being better than them? Isn't that the lie we were force-fed before the first immaculation of The One? I'm not a fan of al Qaeda, but I won't want to my Government doing this either. |
No it was paid in the middle of the day. I pulled prior receipts and they do process them the following day. I just never really looked because I always paid them early. My problem is that its their process and it was paid on the due date. I should not be hit with a penality because they process payments the following day. The rude service I have received from the people working at the IRS is something I have also never experienced in the past.
They should probably cut you a break, but at the same time if they are up front about the fact payments are processed the following day you're kinda SOL. |

Yeah, it's rough on that front. I still don't understand why banks can't do instant transactions at this point in life. I learned the hard way paying a bill the day it was due, but it took 3 days to 'process' and I got hit with a late fee because of it. |

How does this not violate the 5th amendment?
Breaking Politics @breakingpol 19m US Supreme Court justices rule police can take DNA samples from people charged but not convicted of crimes - @Reuters Retweeted by Breaking News Expand |
Re: Has Anyone Else Completely Lost Faith In The Government?
Because the 5th Amendment only protects you from being forced to give incriminating testimony. You cannot be forced to answer questions.
Your DNA, however, is governed by search and seizure protections of the 4th Amendment. (Search & Seizure). Not commenting on the validity of the division. Just saying how it is/has been viewed by the SC. |

How is it any different then giving them your finger prints? Makes sense if the DNA does not match they know they have the wrong guy if it matches then you get what's coming.

I don't know the original intent, but just on the face of it, having your dna used against you would seem to be self incrimination. But - apparently not. |

Didn't say I agree with giving up fingerprints before you are found guilty. It still seems like a self-incrimination to me. |
Re: Has Anyone Else Completely Lost Faith In The Government?
Also, the actual case he was arrested for 1st and 2nd degree assault, and the DNA swab linked him to a previous rape. This guy is obviously a scumbag, but it concerns me that your DNA can be taken easily, entered into a database, etc.

Re: Has Anyone Else Completely Lost Faith In The Government?
So around the same time the goverment was bashing buisnesses for having expensive trips we find out the IRS was doing the same thing.
Already heavily criticized for targeting conservative groups, the Internal Revenue Service absorbed another blow Tuesday as new details emerged about senior officials enjoying luxury hotel rooms, free drinks and free food at a $4.1 million training conference. It was one of many expensive gatherings the agency held for employees over a three-year period. One top official stayed five nights in a room that regularly goes for $3,500 a night. Another official, Faris Fink, stayed four nights in a room that regularly goes for $1,499. Fink was later promoted to head the IRS division that staged the 2010 conference in Anaheim, Calif., a position he still holds. He also has the distinction of playing Mr. Spock in a cheesy but slickly-produced "Star Trek" video that IRS employees filmed for the conference. A total of 132 IRS officials received room upgrades at the conference, according to a report by J. Russell George, the Treasury Department inspector general for tax administration. The tax agency paid a flat daily fee of $135 per hotel room, the report said, but the upgrades were part of a package deal that added to the overall cost of the conference. |

I've stayed in rooms that typically go for 300-450 a night for the government rate. You call, say you want a room but must pay gov't rate and most hotels give it to you (provided you're on travel). |
Re: Has Anyone Else Completely Lost Faith In The Government?
Government always requires that you give the "best rate available" if you are on their GSA contract, but then they throw a ton of requirements in your way that most customers don't when you provide the services. If their money wasn't good, they would be an absolutely lousy customer!

Read what it said. They stayed in very expensive rooms which jacked up the across the board cost per room. Seems someone had the hotel charge an even amount per room increasing each rooms cost so they could stay in these rooms. With everything else we are learning about how the IRS is spending tax payers money this is no surprise. |

Well if you look at the changes in kids and the decline in our education system and families they start about the same time mothers went to work leaving raising our kids to schools and daycare. If people think replacing the parents with schools and day care is better then I would have to say they are crazy. There is more to the issue but it is a factor along with other issues. |

Kids have always been kids. criminals have always been criminals, there has always been poor, rich, smart, stupid etc... This is another interesting topic entirely. But just because a time period has changed doesnt mean we have, just a criteria of how we define and how the world has evolved around those born into it. Our education has fallen behind, not because of women. |

Our education has fallen behind, not because of women.
This appears to be the quote. I am curious why you think he is blaming women...... Or is it that you think both parents working outside the home is a good thing for kids? We are not falling behind educationally to the rest of the world? Our education has fallen behind, not because of women.[/QUOTE] Maybe to their credit it is. When they are home and can spend more time with the kids doing homework etc... they probably are better prepared and do better in school. Just for the record I'm talking earlier years of a child when they need the guidance most. I understand some families need two incomes but I see alot of families that seem to just want more things while passing alot of the raising of their children off to strangers. You could also turn this around and say just having one of the parents home for the children would make a difference not just mom. This is not a knock on two income families I understand how hard it is now days but I do think its has an affect on children. Some more so then others. |

IRS chief: Inappropriate screening was broad
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Internal Revenue Service's screening of groups seeking tax-exempt status was broader and lasted longer than has been previously disclosed, the new head of the agency said Monday. An internal IRS document obtained by The Associated Press said that besides "tea party," lists used by screeners to pick groups for close examination also included the terms "Israel," ''Progressive" and "Occupy." The document said an investigation into why specific terms were included was still underway. In a conference call with reporters, Danny Werfel said that after becoming acting IRS chief last month, he discovered wide-ranging and improper terms on the lists and said screeners were still using them. He did not specify what terms were on the lists, but said he suspended the use of all such lists immediately. "There was a wide-ranging set of categories and cases that spanned a broad spectrum" on the lists, Werfel said. He added that his aides found those lists contained "inappropriate criteria that was in use." Next up: Government lies to its people. Shock, horror...... |
