Re: Redemption Week!!
Right now I think we'd be lucky to run up the score on anybody. I just want to see sustained drives that keep the ball out of the Iggles hands as much as possible. The more we pound the ball and wear out the defense the better. Helu running the ball on a tired defense in the second half would be wonderful to see. When we pass I'd like to see Davis involved early and often. Get a lead and let the dogs loose. (Rak and Kerrigan) Vick should like that.
I have to imagine MS is still pissed about the running up of the score. I hope there is a nice game plan in place and that it works out as planned. I seriously hope MS returns the favour and runs up the score on them just to let them see how it feels and to take control of the NFCE while putting distance between the other NFCE teams.
As pissed as I was, just like everybody else, about that humiliating debacle, I didn't think that the Eagles ran up the score. In the NFL, no team can afford to put the brakes on before halftime, so the blame for the 45 points they scored in the first half I saw as exclusively the fault of our defense. In the second half, the second of the two touchdowns the Eagles scored came on a pick-6, and they didn't score at all in the 4th quarter. |

No doubt. We sucked and they did what any Pro team would do. I hope we can do the same to them this year. |

They're front 7 is pillow soft, particularly right up the middle. We should use all three backs and just pound it right at them, chewing clock and keeping the ball out of Vick/Maclin/Jackson/McCoy's hands. Hopefully that will set up some nice play action so we can take some shots in the passing game. Also, looking at games Philly has already played, TE's have had some success in the middle of the field against them (see Tony Gonzalez). I think Fred Davis could potentially have a very big game. Man, I'm sooooo pumped (and nervous) for this one. |

Good take by Dan Graziano of the ESPN NFC East blog re: importance of the game to the Redskins (can't post the link, not special enough yet).
Rak's quotes make the defensive gameplan sound a bit more conservative this week. I hope this is not the case. Please tell me I am paranoid or that I am over/misreading this. |
Re: Redemption Week!!
The middle is only a problem when they go to their 9 wide or whatever. When they close in I think they did pretty well against the Bills run game, but thats when we need to either run to the outside and force the Eagles to chase us or use more screens and slants. Force them to open up again.

I'm all for using the run more but when Cowboys and Rams both committed to stopping the run we used only one slant against them and it worked. But it seemed they stopped using it.

Please tell me I am paranoid or that I am over/misreading this.
I wouldn't say the gameplan is conservative. I'm sure we'll bring heat at Vick. The way I read it is Rak is simply saying we need to be smart in pursuit of the QB. Vick is probably the most elusive QB of all time. Gotta account for that. I think that's all he was saying. |

Please tell me I am paranoid or that I am over/misreading this.
I think you're misreading this. We're still gonna bring the heat on Vick, but we can't overpursue and leave open an area that he can escape to. Our pass rush has to be consistent in all areas, up the middle, to the inside and outside of the tackles, otherwise we will leave a hole that he can escape through. We're still gonna bring pressure, it's obvious after 4 games that when Vick gets pressured and has nowhere to run, he gets forced into making dumb mistakes. Rak was saying if he rushes to the outside of the tackle and leaves the inside open for Vick to escape, that's what'll happen. We need to surround him and leave him no where to escape to, to the point where he'll throw it up or take a sack. |

Re: Redemption Week!!
I, of course, want us to win. My bigger concern with a loss wouldn't be the loss itself but the fear that it starts a downward spiral
I think it would depend on how we lost. An embarassment like last year would certainly hurt, but a close hard-fought loss where we played well wouldn't (shouldn't) be the end of the world. I'm much more worried about sending the dirty birds on an upward spiral. This reminds me a lot of the Giants game in 2007. They were 0-2 and ready to collapse. We had a big lead at half and could've finished them off for good. Instead they stopped us on the goalline, won the game, and went on to win the Super Bowl. |
Re: Redemption Week!!
I really don't expect to see Vick in the pocket much. I expect him to put his team squarely on his shoulders and get out of the pocket to escape pressure, give his receivers more opportunity to get open and to make plays with his legs. I see the ground game with Vick and McCoy as the biggest threats. I trust the Skins are gameplanning for that too.
On the defense side, I think they sell out to stop the run. No way do they let us get a ground game going (or at least they try). They will force Rex to beat them hoping he is less than stellar and makes some mistakes that give them good field position and more possessions. Rex must bring his A game and play mistake free football for us to win this game. |

Gotta love the passion and intensity Rak has for the game!! Obviously our defense is smart to not underestimate the Iggles offense. Rak said it perfectly that Philly has been its worst enemy with the turnovers. I have little doubt our front 7 will be stellar as in I expect them all to go with high motors all game long. Maybe a bit concerned with the secondary? Hopefully they really gel starting with this game! Doubt the defensive gameplan will be conservative...not really Haslett's thing. Can't say I feel that way about the offense. Really hope Kyle calls a great game. It's time we start to see some points on the board!!! |

Agree Scud. I have a feeling both teams will have a breakout game. But I think the Skins will edge them out this time. With that said, I would love to see us run it up on them. |
Re: Redemption Week!!
The Redskins are a different and a better team than last year all around, they improved in every position except QB. The Eagles also improved and got weak in other areas, overall I would say the Redskins did a better job in drafting and FA signings, this year's Redskins are a totally different team and it will win on Sunday.
This is pretty much the same eagles team that humiliated us last yr.We have a better defense this year but the eagles offense has been unstoppable except for their turnovers. From the highlights Ive seen of their games,it hasnt been teams stopping them its been the eagles stopping themselves.I cant see us having the same luck as the other teams, the ball just has not been bouncing our way for so many yrs I cant count.I cant see us getting the fluke plays and turnovers the other teams have enjoyed,I see the odds of philly doing that 5 games in a row are too high.Just look at the dallas game, what they have,8 fumbles I think and we got 1 of them, are u kidding me,1of 8 fumbles?
We should have won the dallas game but we didnt step up and do it,we should win this game but ive lost the faith, weve been in this position so many times over the past few yrs and we blow it everytime.I dont think we would have won the game last yr if we wouldnt have knocked vick out of it and if he plays a full game this week my gut feeling is we lose again Ok go ahead and blast away at me and tell me im not a true fan:spank:
Remember, Luck is a product of design. They have been losing games they should have won, because they are not prepared for those lucky plays. A good team takes that luck and turns it into points, because they are prepared and focused. I don't know if you've been paying attention, but it sounds to me like the eagles have quit in the fourth quarter several games in a row now. We are not the same team as years past. It's like pretending you have the same wife, after she gets breast implants. Sure she has a similar personality, but her new look gives her a certain swagger. We don't quit, and we don't give away games anymore. That much is obvious. |

Let me correct you the Redskins did improve at QB. Rex is a slight upgrade over McNasty. Rex can get hot and we do know he will lay the ball on the carpet from time to time. At least Rex knows the offense of Kyle's unlike McNasty did. |
Re: Redemption Week!!
This is a big time text for the Redskins this Sunday.
1.We can beat a division rival 2. We can crush Philly's playoff hopes. 3. We can have 2 games up in the divison if the Cowboys and Giants lose. 4.We are 4-1 heading into Carolina next week. 5. Defending homefield can we win our home games? This is the week the offense has to move the ball and score points. The wide receiver's have to step up and have a big day when the ball is thrown to them. We can't just run the ball every play cause philly will play 8 in the box to stop us from running the ball. Fred Davis can have a big game against the LB's of the Eagles. I'm calling out the offense this week to get it done if we want to to give the Eagle a big L. |

I have been paying attn and watching the games and I dont see any quit in philly, just bad luck. And until we win a game like this ,WE are the same redskin team, all you gotta do is look 2 games back.I bet you thought we were going to kick dallas's ass too, howd that work out? |

ok, if you said "some bad luck" that would make sense, but to put all of it on "bad luck" is way off. It's not "bad luck" that has their DEs & OLBs have given up crucial plays by losing outside containment. It's not "bad luck" that Vick has been hit hard many times & it wasn't "bad luck" when Vick threw a ball away at the end of the half last week as the clock ran out & they didn't get a fg attempt. |

Interestingly (at least to me), this will be the first opponent this year that we don't have a FA starter from them:
NYG - Cofield Ari - Hightower Dallas - Bowen St. Louis - Atogwe |

Did Rex not replace McNabb last year at the mid point? That's why I said no improvement, cause he took over last year. |
