If we make a splash of a trade, we don't make that splash to get the #2 QB on the board. The Colts have more holes than just QB, and they take the extra picks and go QB later.
The fallacy in that thinking is that the Colts are not just thinking about the short term future. From what I have read, they seem to regard Luck as their QB for the next 10-15 years. While I am not a big fan of their owner, I really don't think he would give up this opportunity to draft and develop a franchise QB. Just don't see this one happening. |
Re: Predict Who Will Be The Next Redskins QB (Not Necessarily the QB You Want)
I selected Griffin because it's not farfetched to think that the Redskins will trade up to get him. I can see the Redskins trading away:
2012 1st round pick 2012 2nd round pick 2013 2nd round pick 2013 3rd round pick .....all in exchange for the St. Louis Rams 2012 2nd overall selection and possibly a draft choice in the later rounds in order to get RG3. |

Either Luck or Griffin would be sufficient. Considering that it looks as if Peyton Manning will not return to Indianapolis, Jim Irsay will hold on to the Colts #1 pick and draft Luck. The only way Bruce Allen and Mike Shanahan will take Luck is if the Colts and their new GM decide to take RG3 over Luck and Luck ends up second quarterback taken. Draft day will be interesting. |

I don't think stockpiling multiple first round picks and still being able to potentially grab a 1st round caliber QB would be considered thinking short term. It really just depends on how they rate Luck compared to other available prospects. |
Weeden is not worth the 6th pick at all. If we can't get RGIII or Luck in the first and don't trade down (which I don't see happening) take Blackmon/Claiborne/Richardson at 6 and if he's your guy take Weeden in the 2nd and Lindey/Osweiler/Wilson in the 4th.
I'm on board with your first and last statements. Because of Weeden's age, you don't draft him that high. The dilemma here is that due to the shortage of quality QB prospects in this year's draft it would not be surprising if Weeden crept up into the first round. What helps the Skins though is that because teams selecting later in round one, looking to promote competition with their QB situation, won't see much value drafting a 28 year old to perhaps hold the clipboard. With the Skins, he's perfect to be brought in with the expectations of winning the starting position over Grossman and another rookie. Tell me of another team with a fitting situation? The "worst" case scenario is that Luck, RG3, Khalil, Claiborne, and Blackmon are gone before the sixth pick and because I don't think Shanahan values taking a RB (Richardson) that high, this could open up a situation for a trade or maybe the Skins look to draft say, Coples or whoever else is atop their board. The possibilities are endless but, I think the Skins will have some great options there and still be able to draft Weeden in 2nd round. That of course depends on if they covet him. Right now, I do. |

Re: Predict Who Will Be The Next Redskins QB (Not Necessarily the QB You Want)
Weeden.
I can't find it now but earlier today I read how Dallas owner J.Jones (I think) interviewed Weeden because they are looking to upgrade. Don't know what that says about Romo but JJ said he liked Weeden because Weeden is not young and immature, he has a strong arm, can make all the throws, and they are looking for a QB who can pick up the play calls quickly. JJ said they were impressed with how fast he picked up the Redskins play calls. Then there is this.... Weeden making waves at Senior Bowl - Big 12 Blog - ESPN I just think Weeden is building a report with our coaching staff and showing what he can do. On top fo that he will already somewhat know our basic system prior to the draft which means he won't have too much more to learn before the season. I believe there is specific rumors being spread to throw everyone off about what we will do in the draft and in the end the coaches will take Weeden because they will be impressed with him and he will already know the system. Plus we will have a full compliment of picks to build around him.
People tend to look at Weeden's age and say he's too old for a rookie. I tell you what. A 29 year old rookie has more overall maturity than a 23 year old rookie. What I like about Weeden is that he has a great athletic background. He knows how to play quarterback. Although slightly younger than Rex Grossman and John Beck, Weeden throws the ball better and probably reads defenses better. Plus, he's being coached a watered down version of the Redskins playbook by Kyle Shanahan. If the Redskins decided to keep their draft choices and fill out the roster instead of trading picks away in order to land RG3 or Andrew Luck, then Weeden would be the QB they'd end up selecting in the 2nd or 3rd round of the draft. Weeden could probably start from day 1. The ultimate question to ask: Is Weeden an upgrade over Beck and Grossman and if so, how much of an upgrade? |

I concur. Sometimes giving up picks to fulfill your most pressing need is the right thing to do. |

Was just listening to Mike & Mike on the radio, Stink thinks Manning will be the QB for the Skins in 2012. Don't know how I feel about this.

Now, do we have a chance for either Luck or RGIII. Personally.... I think no. The Skins are not the only team who could stand to get a "FRANCHISE" QB. Is Bradford a franchise QB or just a really good QB? I could see the Rams taking RGIII and trading or keeping Bradford. Same with the Vikes. Who knows what the new Tampa coach will want to do and if he even likes his current QB. I think they make a play on Flynn though. The Browns definitly need a "FRANCHISE" QB. I think in the end we stay pat or trade back for more picks and take Weeden. |

There is? I'm thinking it's more like .0001% chance. They have pieces on the offense minus a QB. They draft Luck and dedicate rest of the draft for Defense. Mix defense and offense again in next years and following years draft and they are back in business. |

Orlovsky doesn't tackle, rush the passer, block, run the football, etc. They have significant issues...issues that Manning largely covered up by allowing them to play with a lead and out scheming defenses at the line of scrimmage. Anyone expecting Luck to step in and pick up right where Manning left off has somewhat urealistic expectations for the kid. Even Manning threw an exorbitant amount of picks as a rookie. |

I know RW is 33 years old, but he could be crucial to helping out the development of Luck. They probably need to resign Garcon. Let Saturday walk (or retire) and pick up his replacement in off-season or draft if possible. Not sure why they would let all their WRs go, and why keep the one WR(gonzalez) that's injured all the time? Makes little to no sense. I could see the Colts auctioning off Luck if they somehow feel that RGIII is just as good of a selection in addition to the extra picks. That said, it would have to be a situation where they could pick up RGIII in the trade back or if they pick RGIII and the Rams could auction the Luck pick off. I'm not sure the logic behind not drafting the best QB prospect since John Elway when QB is a major need for your team. Sure you can say extra 1st round picks, but none of those picks mean squat if you don't have the number one position covered. The problem for the Colts is that they won't know about Peyton's health until long after the draft. They have to go into this draft assuming that Peyton isn't going to be healthy and they have to start over. There is no guarantee they'll be in this situation ever again so it's better to take advantage of your "luck" (pun intended) while you have it. If Irsay doesn't select Luck with the #1 pick, he better be prepared to get ran out of town. |
I've said over and over again the reason why Manning didn't win as many Super Bowls as Tom is because of the defense. Offense can carry you in the regular season, but your defense better be good (or at least playing good) come playoff time. Those Patriots defense during the super bowls were stingy when it came to giving up points. |

The one thing about Garcon that bothers me is his drops. Man he's a drive killer sometimes. I could definitely see that with Reggie Wayne, and I don't blame him. I would probably want to go elsewhere (49ers/Ravens/Patriots) to pick up another ring. Makes sense. |

Yeah it will be interesting to see what happens with the WRs in FA. I mean you've got a few good ones available: D Jax, V Jax, Bowe, Colston. The Jaguars are apparently going to go hard into FA with a focus on WR. Rumor is they plan on getting 2 WRs. They're going to "offer whatever amount of money it takes this offseason" I expect us to get one or two WRs as well (depending on whether we let Santana walk), and maybe what I've been talking about for I think two years now will actually happen...or I'll feel like a royal assclown |

There has been a lot of chatter about Colston in New Orleans. I think the Redskins want big play capability and big yardage more than they want a guy who catches a lot of balls. I will be somewhat surprised if we don't make a big play for Colston. |
