4-3 d with Long at one DE and Orakpo at the other. I think the feeling is Po is better suited for a 4-3 End. the move would put Quinn at a LB spot or possibly Po at a LB spot. Rams are looking for a QB rushing complement to Long.
Neither Quinn nor Orakpo are gonna make good 4-3 LBs. They are both just pass rushers, and any alignment with those 2 and Long is going to have major problems.
I can't believe speculation about trading up is already hot and heavy; but hey its combine time.

I understand that this franchise wants a franchise QB.
But I don't get the level of angst.
There are really only 4 QB 'needy' teams and outside of Miami I don't see how the other teams desire for a QB rivals ours.
The way I see it there are 4 teams with different levels of need for a franchise QB.
But there are 4 candidates:
o Manning who's actually a franchise QB
o Flynn, Griffin and Tannehill potential franchise QBs

o One of the 3 will end up with Manning
o Flynn and Miami seem destined for each other linking the Philbin the teacher with Flynn the star pupil
o Seattle doesn't seem desparate enough to leap frog to the 2nd spot
o Cleveland is very unlikely to trade up to spots

I don't see a problem.
We sit back and let the draft come to us.
I have full faith that come training camp we'll either have a franchise QB (Manning) or a potential franchise QB or both.

Wow, that's a surprising rumor.
Must come from Osweiller's camp, I can't imagine any team is looking at Osweiller anywhere near 12.
Where is Luck in all of this Franchise QB post?

Yeah, well Quinn was a bust to begin with, very poor pick. Po at one end and Long at the other would be a nice tandem in a 4-3. Quinn wasnt even a starter last year, on the depth chart he played behind someone at the other end position.

He was a 21 year old rookie. People on message boards may pass judgement on players' careers that quickly, but coaches and personnel men do not.

He had 5 sacks, btw, which a whopping 2.5 less than Kerrigan, who stayed in school 4 years and is 2 years older than Quinn.

Any word if the Colts are moving to a 3-4? If so, would Rak be an enticing offer to them along with picks? Just wondering.

Yes, they are. And yes, he would be. Assuming they are going to let Mathis go, or trade Freeney. Or both.

And, of course, assuming that they are even thinking about trading the pick.

TBH I am not sold on this move or any other that finds us giving away a ton of picks or solid players for a 50/50 chance to hit on a QB prospect. Sure it could work out, but with all the holes this team has I just don't see this being a great move.

I am also wondering why so many in this thread have us trading players who aren't under contract. LL, FD, and Fletch all are not on our roster anymore. I also don't see the team signing the players to deals just to trade them.

You could franchise LL and trade him. A way to hold Laron and while details are worked out for the event trade. FD and Fletch are most likely coming back, SS said deals are almost done for both.

artmonkforhallofamein07 02-25-2012 07:15 PM

Re: Yet Another QB Rumors Thread (Volume 9)

FD and Fletch need to be a part of this team not traded to someone else.

Plus a guy like Fletch won't be commanding much in a trade. FD is a different story, but we don't have the luxury of getting rid of him. He is a big part of this offense. If we are trading away a bunch of picks then we won't be able to replace him in the draft.

I know he's a fan favorite but Cooley is worthless around the league. Past his prime and off an injury. Orakpo and this years #2 is a good start but i think if we are gonna wrap the trade up early it will take a little more.

He's good, but not so good that trading him is a deal breaker when you're trying to acquire a rare talent like RGIII.

I don't know about that, many people underestimate Orakpo. You think Kerrigan could be as effective without him? The one wildcard is Markus White, if he has developed maybe then. By the way, I really, really like White.

I agree.

A) A franchise QB is everything in today's pass-happy NFL.

B) As much as I love Rak, he has yet to develop enough moves to make him an elite NFL pass-rusher. He's kind of a one-trick pony, even if that one trick is very good.

For real.

I must say, if we trade up I would hate to lose any of our current good young player such as Rak. I would only do it to get Luck IMO.

I would be willing to trade Orakpo straight up for Robert Griffin (personal preference more than equal value), but the idea that the second pick is worth Orakpo and the 6th pick is very silly.

I would offer this year's first and second, Rak, and next year's second rounder for the #1 overall pick.

Re: Yet Another QB Rumors Thread (Volume 9)

I love the potential of RG3, seems athletic, can run & throw, and seems smart. Seems every draft analyst has fallen in love w him.

BUT, anyone else concerned that RG3:
1) Was not even in this conversation about 6 months ago? One year wonder?
2) Is at heart a running QB, who tend to get injured in the NFL (see "Vick, Michael")
3) Ran the spread offense in college?

Again, I do think RG3 be good -- but we have to objectively look at him before we throw away our team to get this guy. I'd rather throw the house in for a guy like Luck who's produced year after year, is not a gimmick-run QB, and ran a pro offense...

I just think you can't go wrong with Luck, but you'd have to get a little Lucky with RG3.

I agree with the majority on trading Orakpo.

I think Griffin has a much high ceiling than Luck. Great news on the montgomery signing, I can't wait for the draft and to see how everyone does tomorrow in WR/QB/RB drills.

Re: Yet Another QB Rumors Thread (Volume 9)

Here's what I'll tell you right now about the Orakpo rumor because I feel it's kind of suspect. It involves him going to a 3rd team for a draft pick that WR would use as part of a deal to move up, so we wouldn't have to use so many of our own.

my doubts about this are A) the other team actually picks much lower than us so their picks aren't enticing and B) there's another player involved (not on the Skins) and moving him seems impossible.

That's the thing with talking to inside sources though. Sometimes they'll just flat out tell you "Listen, off the record, we're going to sign Hunter Smith" or they drop hints and it's up to you (well I guess me in this case) to figure out wrongly "Damn, we're about to get Darren Sproles" or rightly "We're going to trade for Jamaal Brown"

This seems to be one of the latter cases.

RGIII- 40- 4.3

I feel the same. Not really big into losing guys we have drafted so recently and made the probowl twice in three years. Yeah the guy has value, but does he not have alot of value for us?

RGIII. Why do some many think he is a franchise QB? There are so many questions about him, that for all the positives you can give there are just as many reasons not to do a deal. This is the problem with the college game transferring to the NFL. There are so many unknowns that when you have to give up so much for a prospect it is a gamble that is hard to swallow.
