Re: London Prepared to Leave (If No Deal)
Who is telling you that this is a full blown rebuild? lol If we make a strong move for either RGIII or Manning the writing is on the wall. We expect to get better now. You dont get better by letting your best defensive player walk, for nothing in return as well.
Even if it were a rebuild you're thinking about what good does opening up another hole in the roster do? The biggest clincher on why we need to resign his is this though; We have the money and the cap space! It puts us at no disadvantage to pay him what he wants. |
Re: London Prepared to Leave (If No Deal)
I totally agree with not trading up, I would prefer for us to stay pat and draft Tannehill. But then there are so many rumors claiming the fact that Redskins is looking to trade up to draft Griffin. You are still missing my point, regardless of what we do in draft, we still do not have enough picks to draft a replacement for Fletcher that we can expect to contribute immediately. We have several needs to fill in, such as QB, WR, FS, RT, CB, and maybe SS if we don't resign Landry. By letting Fletcher walk away, we would only add another position that we will need to fill in.
The only scenario where I can see us drafting a LB in draft who we can expect to replace Fletcher next season is if we trade down and gain another 2nd or 3rd round pick. I am not sure if that will happen since Tannehill will be gone in top 15, unless we want Weeden. My ideal plan for ILB situation would be to resign Fletcher and draft a replacement next year.
Agreed. |
Re: London Prepared to Leave (If No Deal)
There is no downside to re-signing Fletcher. He's got 3 years left in him and is the only consistent player on the team. His leadership is unquestioned and he never takes a play off. Why there is any consideration of letting him explore options outside of starting for the Redskins is beyond me.

Re: London Prepared to Leave (If No Deal)
I think the reason its taking them so long is cause Fletch changed agents.

Does that cat only have one ear? Is that representative of something? |
Re: London Prepared to Leave (If No Deal)
Whats the latest on Fletch..feel like a deal is coming soon for him..
|
Re: London Prepared to Leave (If No Deal)
I would like to see us sign LF but not if he demands too much money. It seems like older players just hit a wall and at his age no telling where that wall is.

Re: London Prepared to Leave (If No Deal)
London on NFL Total Access right now, currently talking bounties and Gregg Williams.
|
Re: London Prepared to Leave (If No Deal)
We cannot lose this guy. he needs to stay a Redskin for the remainder of his career, and then as a LB coach.
|
Re: London Prepared to Leave (If No Deal)
"It’ll take some time to get done but we both want to get a deal done." - London Fletcher a week ago.
Hope he's right, we CAN NOT LOSE HIM. |
Re: London Prepared to Leave (If No Deal)
Redskins close to re-signing London Fletcher
By Mark Maske The Washington Redskins are close to re-signing free agent linebacker London Fletcher, a person with knowledge of the negotiations said Friday. A deal between Fletcher and the Redskins was within reach and could be completed as soon as later Friday, the person said, speaking on the condition of anonymity because the talks are confidential. Neither Fletcher nor his representatives immediately responded to requests for comment. Redskins Coach Mike Shanahan said at the annual league meeting late last month in Palm Beach, Fla., that the team remained intent upon re-signing Fletcher and conversations were ongoing. The league-owned NFL Network reported earlier Friday there were hopes the deal could be completed this weekend, before the Redskins begin their offseason conditioning program Monday. |

I hope the Redskins don't tie too much money up in someone that old. I love Fletcher and what he brings to the field, but I don't see him being able to contribute much longer. I'd give him good money this year, a little money next year, and practically all incentives past that. |
Re: London Prepared to Leave (If No Deal)
considering that no other team seemed interested in signing Fletcher to a huge multi-year deal at this point, I think London should be happy with whatever he gets.
|
Re: London Prepared to Leave (If No Deal)
he still deserves to be paid well, not top $, but above avg. starter $. Want to see a report that he's signed though, then I'll be happy.

Re: London Prepared to Leave (If No Deal)
London's value to the defense and team is grossly underestimated. Also he (once again) had the most tackles in the league last season...I don't think "old" is an apt descriptive...just experienced at this point.
|
Re: London Prepared to Leave (If No Deal)
It will likely be a McNabb type deal. Meaning a lot of money (well a decent amount) but with no real commitment. Easy to get out of

i agree, and I'm not saying that London doesn't deserve to be paid...the guy has been underestimated for much of his career. With that said, fortunately for us, other teams are shying away from him probably because of his age. That's good for us! And, if he's getting a McNabb deal, then he wins and the 'skins win too. |

Word. Something heavily laden w/ incentives makes sense |
Re: London Prepared to Leave (If No Deal)
Looks like Fletcher signed? He just tweeted this.

Re: London Prepared to Leave (If No Deal)
So I'm gathering that he has indeed re-signed with the Redskins looking at other tweets.
