Re: Peyton Manning Chooses the Broncos
If I'm Miami I'd give Tebow a hard look. At the very least he's got star power. He sells tickets and jerseys, and the Dolphins desperately that type of boost.
Jacksonville could obviously use a boost in ticket sales as well.
Plus the Dolphins don't have any receivers that will demand the ball. They could run the spread option with little problem. |
Re: Peyton Manning Chooses the Broncos
Tebow liked to compare the NFL to the SEC however playing in the AFC West last year was kind of like playing in the ACC. I suppose he could find success in the AFC East where the Patriots are looking like the only real playoff team. AFC South though would probably be a better fit as that division is up for grabs for the first time since the early 2000's.
Jags with their running game and large investments draft wise on the defensive side of the ball would be an ideal fit but the GM wants nothing to do with Tebow.
I thought the owner loved TT and has said he would have drafted him if he owned the team at the time. |
Re: Peyton Manning Chooses the Broncos
Short term. Yes. Long term. No.
Please. His team won games. There is a reason Denver was looking at every direction at QB this off-season. He sucks.
When you're playing to half empty stadiums, all that matters is the short term. As a pure business decision, Tebow makes too much sense for teams like the Dolphins and Jags. |
Re: Peyton Manning Chooses the Broncos
Gene Smith is a Gabbert-hugger. If Kahn wants to override him, he can, but he first has to sold on getting Tebow.
I thought the owner loved TT and has said he would have drafted him if he owned the team at the time.
Yeah i thought that too. And the Jags owner is probably the smartest business guy in the NFL. Right now there are 2 ways to sell tickets in Jacksonville; become a top 7 team, or sign Tebow. |
Re: Peyton Manning Chooses the Broncos
I thought the owner loved TT and has said he would have drafted him if he owned the team at the time.
Sure the owner loves him. Gene Smith the General Manager, not much of a fan which I kind of understand. Tebow appears to have a very limited ceiling and once you get him in Jacksonville it will be virtually impossible to get him out. |

We are not in dire financial straits such that we are forced to care only about the short term. |

Exactly. Tebow's impact especially for a small market team like the Jags would be huge. |
Re: Peyton Manning Chooses the Broncos
Can we now agree that most 'insiders' are just throwing darts at the wall with their information? Prior to his release the top 4 teams rumored with 'mutual interest' for Manning were Washington, Miami, NY Jets and Arizona. As it comes to pass, he had no interest in Washington or NY, some interest in Arizona and merely a passing interest in Miami. Nobody had Denver on the radar and few had SF as a legitimate contender.

I think a lot of people kept mentioning SF and Houston as teams that made sense from the get go. Denver was probably not on the radar, but everyone knew that Elway did not want to make a long term commitment to Mile High Jesus. I am sure it is hard to predict these things, either that or maybe there was a genuine interest by Manning until he or his people did research on these teams. Plus, I am sure teams that were not desperate for a QB stay put and see what the initial onslaught of bids for Manning was going to look like. |

A lot of the early team speculation assumed Manning would have to accept a heavily incentivized contract. Clearly as the guaranteed amount got larger, teams with less cap room dropped out (i still don't understand how Arizona thought they would be in his ballpark, even if they axed Kolb) |

Not sure where you get this from. We did have a interest in Manning, and this was stated sometime ago from regular ES insiders. The options were.... Manning + later round drafted QB to groom RGIII + quality vet Tannehill + quality vet These were all serious options for the Redskins. There was no "throwing darts" to it at all. All those teams you mentioned had serious interest in Manning, now whether Manning had serious interest in them is a different story. |

I think a lot of people actually thought SF made sense. And some thought maybe Tennessee, simply because of geography really. I don't think anyone had Denver...except Colin Cowherd |

I don't think anyone had Denver...except Colin Cowherd
Just another reason for CC to gloat. SS no offense but I really can't stand his analysis sometimes. He makes some sense, but he can really get off on tangents at times. Manning to the Broncos really makes sense to me, but the weather may play a factor if he fails to win there. |

Tebow's impact especially for a small market team like the Jags would be huge.
Tebow is like heroine. Makes you feel so good when he's on your team (eeking out wins) but in reality he's really bad for your health (going deep in the playoffs) and when you try to quit you go through terrible withdrawals (fan backlash). Which brings me to my next point......How Peyton Manning is like methadone. |

Re: Peyton Manning Chooses the Broncos
I still believe Manning was better suited for the 49ers. They definitely would have been super bowl contenders. Broncos...their good but not great. Need a lot of help on their 2ndary and w/ their LBs

@RealSkipBayless: Looks like Peyton wanted to be anti-LeBron, avoid joining best team in need of QB: Niners. Of teams that wanted him, took biggest challenge At first I was sort of on this side of things too, but then remembered what Tebow did with that team and realised no way manning can't do better with the same team. I agree that 49ers were a better fit though, but still think manning could win a SB with the broncos. |
I am glad Peyton didnt choose the Niners, keep him out if the conference.

Haha I guess it wasn't a lie that he doesn't want to play in the same conference as Eli.

Damn Elway looks like hes in his 70's, Pettibones D in the Super Bowl must have really took its toll. But id still take him right now over any of our last 20 starting qbs.

I think I really underestimated a) how insulated Peyton has been in Indy his whole career and b) his fear of failure

Re: Peyton Manning Chooses the Broncos
Why do you say this?
Well it seems like from what several people had been saying the last few days a) he wanted a fairly stable, non-media overwhelming environment-which is understandable and b) he didn't want the "pressure" of "Super Bowl or bust in 2012-13" (such as in San Francisco), which is a bit odd to me. I mean he's 36 years old and he's looking to ease back into another title shot? |
Re: Peyton Manning Chooses the Broncos
Seems odd to not want that pressure, but perhaps he wants a "reasonable" amount of pressure, meaning let's take our best shot at winning it all in the next 3 years, and not this year or bust kind of thing.
|
Re: Peyton Manning Chooses the Broncos
He's going to get the SB or bust....pressure wherever he goes..........
|
Re: Peyton Manning Chooses the Broncos
He's going to get the SB or bust....pressure wherever he goes..........
Right, it's just not going to be as intense in Denver vs San Fran. SF went deep into the playoffs last year, expectations for them would have been sky high with Manning there. The expectations in Denver while high, aren't going to be SB this year or else. |
Re: Peyton Manning Chooses the Broncos
I think your probably right and I am not sure that an ....over the top inyourface guy like Harbaugh would not be a distraction to PM, not to mention a pain on the ass.
