The coaches should increase Jarvis Jenkins reps in practice and limit what he does during the preseason. It would be wise for the coaches to only increase his workload until the regular season. He's too valuable for him to suffer another severe injury.

Good. We need to get him back in the fold. Fletch still is one of the few leaders we have on this team.

SS, hearing any other pre-draft chatter coming out of Redskins Park?

More likely:
-If a player they love is available in the 2nd round, trading the third & a fourth to move back into the 2nd?
-Holding pattern with what we have??
-Moving back in the 3rd to try to get more picks?

With Jackson, Williams, Torrence, presumably at least one draft pick you'd have to think they're done in the secondary. How about addressing ILB depth or interior OL depth via what's left in FA? Also, it's a pretty safe assumption that the third round pick would be leaning towards T, RB or WR, right?

Honestly, I have not been making any attempts these past few weeks to get any information. Occasionally I'll get a minor email/text here and there. But I'm taking some off time.

I'm off until August.

I still expect something to happen soon with Hall and/or Barnes

Gaffney was out the door if we had signed Royal. Not signing him does not necessarily change Gaffney's status. He just got a bit of a stay of execution

Schedule is coming out on Tuesday, barring a last minute change.

Wow. That would suck to lose DHall, and I hate DHall... That just shows you the state of our secondary currently. Who would we get to replace him? A third round rookie or Cedric Griffin?

I heard that Aquib Talib is on the trading block. I wonder if we will try to get him, with Morris being our DB coach. I would bet he will come real cheap. Like Adam Carricker cheap.

I would suggest either Barry Sanders or Gayle Sayers because they are the only players I've ever seen who are better able to avoid tackles than DHall.

If he goes, I won't miss his unwillingness to hit anybody, his ill-timed gambling, his inability to cover top receivers when it counts the most, and his big mouth.

i think he improved his tackling a bunch last year, and he even holds his own against top receivers. my biggest thing with him is his gambling like you said, it pays off sometimes and sometimes it does the opposite. If he can control that along with talking so much, which he has def improved on, hes good and worth keeping around for us, we dont have any other better options.

That would be really disappointing if he went to the eagles... Why didn't he go to the vikings, they were interested in him last year? Doesn't want to play for his father-in-law?

My counterpoints:

My Point is not that he is a poor tackler but that he actively avoids tackling. He doesn't want to hit anyone. I can't stand that. Case in point: Rob Gronkowski.

His inability to cover top receivers at key times is best illustrated by his letting Dez Bryant beat him on something like 4th and 35 at the end of the last Dallas game.

Everything you said about DeAngelo Hall is absolutely correct. I'm rough on Hall most of the time, but he's the best cornerback on the roster. Hall had a bad year last year. With a new position coach, I look for tons of improvement from Hall this coming season.

Yeah, but remember that some of the things Hall did bad last season wouldn't be changed from a simple coaching change. Hall did things last year that were pee wee football fundamentals, things that either you can do it or you can't.

Hall is a gambler likes to jump routes and guess, but is the best corner we have right now. We aren't going to get a true shut down corner at this point in FA or the draft.

Our defense needs to apply more pressure consistently to cover up our weakness at corner. To me Orakpo needs a big year, and hopefully Jenkins can play like we saw in the preseason. A lot of the time we give a first down on 3rd and long is due to no pressure from our pass rush.

Bottom line we are stuck with hall so we need to find ways cause some havoc on QBs.

I've been wondering why the Redskins haven't re-signed Tim Hightower. Perhaps they feel confident with Royster and Helu. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the Redskins drafted a young running back prospect in the later rounds.

hall's been a poor true #1 cb for more of his career. i'd imagine a new year and a new coach aren't going to change that much, judging from past performance.

Re: 2012 Redskins Free Agency (and Trades) Tracker (Chapter III)

I don't understand why people are so worried about being able to find a replacement for Hall if the team cuts him for cap space.

Andre Goodman, Kelly Jennings, Chris Johnson, Phillip Buchanon are all UFAs right now. None would command more than a one year deal.

Ultimately, you have to replace him through draft and development, but that was never not the case, and it doesn't matter if he's on the roster or not: it doesn't make acquiring a starting CB more difficult.

C'mon Tripp none of those guys have the playmaking ability of Hall. Especially Johnson and Buchanon.

We all wish Hall would give consistent effort, both mentally and physically, but it's a little silly to pretend he's nothing more than an average talent.

I'm not going to argue for or against Hall as a playmaker today, but I will tell you that no correlation exists between plays he makes and games the Redskins win. Its entirely possible that we would have won fewer (or more) games in 2010 without him, but because the team has had so little success and because he's such a liability in coverage, there's no argument to be made that he's a significant or critical member of the team going forward.

Right now, he's just getting paid a decent percentage of our cap. We can easily work it out so we can keep him, but what's the point? We've had his age 25-28 seasons and didn't get anything from them in terms of coverage on the back end. I highly doubt it's going to get better as he ages.

And I wouldn't see the evil of cutting Hall and his $6 million salary, and then bringing him back at 1 year/$1.5 million. It's more than he would get elsewhere, he can still wear the 'C' patch on gamedays, and we're saving more than $4 million on the cap to do so.

Someone would probably pay him more than 1.5 million. Besides.. he's still probably our best corner, which isn't saying mcuh. Hopefully Morris can get him to play to his potential.
