I would have never guessed Samuel could be had for a 7th round pick
me neither! falcons got a steal, although his contract is expensive considering the corners already on the team. im just glad we dont have to see him 2 times a year anymore, he gets hella ints. |
Uhhh good news but what the hell is Mike's deal? Why did he think there would ever be a robust market Gaffney? He's 31 and his best season ever was in our offense. If Mike never understood Gaffney is more valuable to the Redskins than he is to every other team he just....doesn't....get it.
When did he say there would be a robust market? |
Still $6 million + per year is a lot for most teams cap-wise. I guess I'm not too surprised there wasn't more demand for Samuel's services.
Fist off, I'm quite sure that Samuels was using his contract negotiations as to steer where he wanted to go. If he didn't want to go to a particular team, he refused to rework the deal. If he did, he would rework it. That said, here is a glimpse of why his value wasn't there. Marcus Hayes: In Samuel trade, Birds toss a no-hitter
The Eagles thought they had solved their secondary problems for the long term when they signed Samuel as a $56 million free agent after the 2007 season. Well, they didn't. For each of his 23 interceptions as an Eagle, Samuel missed five tackles. For every pick he turned into six, he gave up 10 touchdowns. Asante Samuel was a fraud, wrapped in a mirage, inside an illusion. He had the hands of a receiver and the tackling skills of a quarterback. Sorry, quarterbacks.

And then there was the mouth. Always, the mouth; always, running. Good for sports writers; bad for coaches.

And don't be endeared to Samuel for taking a pay cut in order to move. He was due more than $21 million the next two seasons. He reportedly restructured his contract to make no more than $18.5 million over 3 years. His alternative? Get cut. Be on the street after the draft. Hope someone sees some value, and take whatever they offer, hope for a big season and pray your reputation doesn't follow you. Instead, Samuel had a say in where he landed.
Remind you of anyone? |

The defensive tackle? I'm pretty sure he's old. He might help them stop the run, but I don't think he'll be a full time starter anymore. |

Anything could happen, imagine Assante goes out gets 9 int's helps them to the NFC championship game against the SKINS of course. Next year he wants a new contract holds out it could happen. |

|
Re: 2012 NFL Free Agency Tracker (Book 3)
Huh. Well he can at least go back to the west coast.
SS or anyone else has there been any word on how Pyror is progressing? |
Re: 2012 NFL Free Agency Tracker (Book 3)
Schaefer says Leinart's going to Oakland
I'm wondering why the Redskins didn't pursue Matt Leinart this offseason like they did last offseason. Since Houston's offense is similar to Washington's, it would make sense for the Redskin to pursue Leinart again. I'm not sure if it's a smart decision to go with Beck and Grossman, even as back ups, although Grossman did earn the back up role after 13 starts last year. Hopefully, Jonathan Crompton can push Beck in training camp and keep a spot on the roster. If not, then he might be shifted back to the practice squad. |
Re: 2012 NFL Free Agency Tracker (Book 3)
I don't see Beck making it on the final roster this year. We need arms for camp but after that is over I would imagine he is gone.
I don't see Beck making it on the final roster this year. We need arms for camp but after that is over I would imagine he is gone.
It would seem this is the way things are going to play out. I hope the Redskins go with 3 quarterbacks this year instead of 2 like last season. Beck would seem like he's the odd man out. But after Jonathan Crompton was signed to the roster after the end of the 2011 season, I'm hoping that we finally can get a chance to see him play in a Redskins uniform and perhaps compete in training camp/preseason against Beck. If the Redskins end up draft Kirk Cousins, then Beck is definitely gone. I made good on my own prediction I see. (1) The Redskins drafted Kirk Cousins and (2) John Beck was cut. |
Re: 2012 NFL Free Agency Tracker (Book 3)
Pretty sure we're adding another QB this weekend and no way Beck comes back.

Kellen 7th round! But sadly I feel like we'll over draft a QB and it'll be Aaron Corp. |

Vince Young trying out for the Bills tomorrow

I remember when Vince Young was heralded as the best thing since Dan Marino. Now he's been with three teams in three years and is quickly becoming a journeyman NFL quarterback.

Yeah I dont think playing basketball is posing much of a risk. I think its cool they are finding a way to stay in shape. It coulda just be shooting at his house with family or something. |

Gotta say, as much as I love mocking Dallas, selling a $20 bag of pot while working as a security guard at a strip club seems like justification for an undercover cop to ogle a bunch of women. Disgust with "war on drugs" >> hatred of Cowboys -- who knew :cheeky-sm |
