To me... Lewis projects to be a taller, slower, Anthony Armstrong route runner. He's got great body/sideline awareness and adjustment on deep routes.. he is 6'3... but appears has no "wiggle" or "burst" when he makes a catch. He's a deep threat only... but Shanny usually does a great job of making those type of guys contribute (see Eddie Royal & Armstrong as rookies). This guy could be better than those guys due to his size and leaping ability. |

what about darrell green's son?

He is pretty shifty and can shake tackles after the catch. He has good body control and footwork with keeping his feet in bounds. I think his best attribute is just going up and getting the ball and he's very good in the redzone. Him and Dwayne Harris who the cowboys drafted last year made an awesome duo at ECU. |

Was he any good? What position does he play? |

Nah, Danny Coale. Makes me actually heartbroken for someone like that to go to our arch rivals. |

He signed with Carolina and is a WR. |

Just saw Danny Coale went to the Cowboys. That's very disappointing. :( |
Re: UDFA Thread
It's one of those weird things that actually bothered me to the core. Like I see his dad almost every day driving into work. His brother is a pretty cool dude and his family overall is very humble about him yet I'm going to root for him to be totally terrible for the Cowboys.
:(:(:( I'm a baaaaaad person. |
OT Josh Ogelsby, Wisconsin is massive (6'7'" - 330 with huge arms) was basically the Badgers starting RT from Sophomore year on... but.... had knee injuries in 2009, 2010, and 2011... 6 surgeries!! Supposedly doesn't have great range with his feet, although he has great range with his arms (sounds like hold calls waiting to happen... lol).
He was still 1st Team All-Big Ten in 2011. Seems like a pretty good road grater who has terrible knees...
Yes, stock up on those midwestern road graders. |
Re: UDFA Thread
Ogelsby does not sound like a ZBS fit at all; seems it's not all Shanahan making the calls. :FIREdevil

He must have run into some Eagle fans while looking for real estate , and thought to himself ( I have to get the HELL out of here ) . |
Re: UDFA Thread
I thought he'd signed w/ Philly, so did he ask to be released? Did they cut him? More info
|
Re: UDFA Thread
He must have decided that wearing that ghastly green was not worth the extra 25 cents the Eagles were offering.
|
Re: UDFA Thread
Lewis is a weird fit for a Shanahan offense: limited agility, goes down after the catch, can't block even the most stationary target, but he's a legit priority NFL UDFA with a receiving future in the league. He's great at playing on the football. And calling him a possession target sells his vertical ability short: he can break a cushion and run deeper intermediate 9 routes.
I don't think he'll make the crowded field at receiver here and he's probably more likely to sign elsewhere on cut day than to come back to our practice squad, but he's a good pickup. He'll likely gain a Marko Mitchell kind of buzz with catches in training camp. |

No I think they got some additional players and to make room let him go. Not at all uncommon at this time of year for UDFAs to move quickly from team to team. |

Awesome. Not the fastest guy but everything I've read said he has great instincts and fluid hips. |

No, he had the thought right after he passed through the Philly city limits. |

The ECU guys didnt get alot of draft respect, I expected both to be at least drafted. I remember Spurrier talking about Lewis and Davis after that game last season, they put up some serious numbers. |
Re: UDFA Thread
Lets try to remember that a lot of these guys won't even make the team. Right now I'd put my money on Thomas, Minnifield, and 1 guy from the rest of the field.

As a wisconsin season ticket holder, I can tell you that josh even making the practice squad would be a miracle. He came in as a 5star recruit ranked in the top 20 by all services, but as has been mentioned, sustained horrible injuries to both knees. He can barely run now. Great kid, no future in football IMO though sadly. |
Re: UDFA Thread
I guess you can't blame blame an UDFA for not signing with a team who showed interest before the draft, yet drafted guys at the his position late in the draft.

Re: UDFA Thread
Getting Phillip Thomas and Chase Minnifield is so big at this point. Cant say anything negative about the SMU corner or Bernstein SS pick with these additional 2 guys. Its gonna be fun to watch who emerges in the secondary. Young Skins vs the Vets.
|
Re: UDFA Thread
Are we sure Phillip Thomas signed with us? I've having trouble finding anything about it on the interwebs aside from unconfirmed reports on twitter.

Yep I have to agree with you. I'm looking at it more as we drafted Chase and Thomas and we signed the SMU and Iowa guy as UDFAs.. |

Last night he said he did...but today the Eagles are saying he's staying there. So I'm a bit confused at the moment myself |
Re: UDFA Thread
Who is getting this information that we signed Phillip Thomas? I thought he signed with the Eagles.

I got it from a very reliable source via phone...from the horse's mouth so to speak. But maybe he meant he's going to both. Sometimes players at this time have "tryouts" with multiple teams during their mini-camps, and don't actually sign any contract per se |

Here's an example of this Rookies to get shot at dream during Miami Dolphins minicamp - Miami Dolphins - MiamiHerald.com Harris, who had an erratic four seasons at UM after coming in as a five-star recruit out of Miami Northwestern High in the vaunted 2007 recruiting class, won’t be there as one of the Dolphins draft picks or gaggle of undrafted free agents. He’ll be there on the same tryout basis that he’ll be in Arizona’s rookie camp later. So Harris is trying out with the Dolphins and the Cardinals this week, hoping one of them will want to sign him |

Re: UDFA Thread
Phillip Thomas is on the Eagles unfortuneatly. Schefter just cleared it up on twitter, someone asked Scefter straight up to clear it up if he was on the Eagles or Redskins, and Schefters answer was the Eagles :/ i really dont understand why they did not draft a safety before they did, an obvious position of need.

Re: UDFA Thread
Just read that the doctor who performed the surgery on Chase Minnifield was Dr. James Andrews. Thats awesome to hear with the success stories he has had (Drew Brees' shoulder). The consensus is he's just about the best in the business.
