But ... but ... if the Patriots are assembling a team of has been/never were WR's (not including Welker) ... IT MUST BE BRILLIANT.
He was a solid player but clearly a stop-gap at best. Good luck to him.
This....... better suited for a 3rd or 4th receiver role not one or two. |
Re: Jabar Gaffney Released
Patriots will be the SB fav in 2012. Darth Hoodie did much to shore up that defense and the offense will always be there, and maybe even better than 2011.

Ain't that the truth, that's what the media's going to say. |
Re: Jabar Gaffney Released
Would it be out of the realm of possibility that Ocho could end up here now that Gaffney and Stallworth are in N.E.?
|
Re: Jabar Gaffney Released
I don't think Ocho has much left in the tank.

I think the love affair with ocho (In reguards to him coming to the SKINS), is over. |
Re: Jabar Gaffney Released
Brady didn't target Ocho much last year, which I found weird. He was open quite a lot in games a watched, including the SB, but again the ball just didn't go his way much. So I wonder if the rapport has been slow to develop? If Brady wanted him gone I think Bill would do it, so maybe we'll see Ocho get more work this year. I actually think he's pretty adept at creating space and getting open...it's not all about speed.

I don't think the trust factor was ever there between Brady and Ocho. NE's offense runs a lot of option routes, both guys need to be in sync. Ocho just didn't get up to speed quickly enough. |

Well said...that's what I had in mind. Who knows if he'll get there? Talk about competition in training camp lol there's a dozen or so WRs!! |

That's not really surprising. He has history with Bill Belicheck after all. |

He is? Wikipedia says he got released by the Pats in 2010, and I don't think he's signed with anyone since. |

No one has wanted him or his bad knee since he was cut in 2010. He failed a physical before the 2010 camp and the Pats cut him. I liked him while he was here. He and Smoot...oh the memories. |

Re: Jabar Gaffney Released
I'm pissed we couldn't get anything for Gaffney and the patriots of all teams get him for nothing and sign him to a two year deal. I'm sure we asked them for a pick and they said they didn't want him then we release him and they probably were the first team to call. We should have held on to him until training camp when other teams starting getting injuries and losing WRs so we could have traded him for something. Oh well.
|
Re: Jabar Gaffney Released
It's the right thing to do to give him the professional courtesy of finding another team. Of course if he was worth more than a potential late round pick in August, that courtesy wouldn't have been extended.

We saved $2million in cap space and don't have to monitor his Twitter account any more. That's something. Maybe we can finally lock up Hightower now. |
Re: Jabar Gaffney Released
The re-signing of Tim Hightower is extremely long overdue. The Redskins have signed two 7th round draft choices already and has not re-signed Hightower. I wonder what's taking so long.

He doesn't currently have a good ACL. That what is taking so long, for it to heal. |
Re: Jabar Gaffney Released
Ok so we now know he's going to the Pats, but have you seen who all they have? lol.
Jabar Gaffney Brandon Lloyd Donte Stallworth Anthony Gonzalez Deion Branch Chad Ochocinco Julian Edelman Wes Welker It's like they are trying to put together an all star team. lol. I know some are washed up and some are not worth what they think of themselves but good god. lol. They might as well go out and pick up T.O. also. lol.
Yea its funny if the Redskins would have the signed this many WR NFL experts would be trashing us. But since this is the Patriots they are so smart signing so many WR. |

Hightower is not the only veteran RB on the market, and also he is coming off a ACL injury. We don't have to rush to sign him and we are not going to over pay for him either. Other vet backs on the market are: Cedric Benson, Joseph Addai , Ryan Grant, LT ( Tomlinson) Ronnie Brown, Cadilac Williams. |

You are right, but none of them have Htower's youth. |
Re: Jabar Gaffney Released
I think the reason why we couldnt trade him to the pats was because entering the draft they only had two firsts and two seconds

Re: Jabar Gaffney Released
Since some have been wondering.....
John Keim @john_keim Shanahan says moss is in excellent shape. Says he's 15 pounds lighter... #redskins Daniel Shiferaw @dshif Shanahan says that Pierre Garçon, Josh Morgan and Leonard Hankerson are likely "at the top of the list" in terms of being potential starters Chuck Carroll @FNNChuck Shanahan says top receivers are TBD... lots of competition. High expectations for Josh Morgan and Pierre Garcon and Leonard Hankerson. Skinscast @skinscast Shanahan said Santana Moss is 15lbs lighter and in excellent shape
On another note people have asked about Cooley also...
John Keim @john_keim Shanahan says there have been no setbacks with cooley's knee. #redskins Grant Paulsen @granthpaulsen Mike Shanahan said Niles Paul has made a smooth transition to TE. He's 235 pounds and still running a 4.5. #Redskins Rich Campbell @Rich_Campbell Shanahan: Santana Moss weighs 15 pounds less than he did at the end of last season. Cooley's knee is not swelling after workouts.
Interesting note.... Niles Paul making a smooth transition and weighting 235lbs and still running a 4.5. So which of the WR's will or should play slot?
rant Paulsen @granthpaulsen Mike Shanahan said both Josh Morgan and Leonard Hankerson can play in the slot. Santana Moss is down 15 lbs and in improved shape. #Redskins ESPN 980 @ESPNRadio980 Mike Shanahan says Santana Moss is in great shape, 15 pounds lighter. Says best shape he's seen. Cooley doing great. Garcon not really slot Rich Campbell @Rich_Campbell Shanahan: It's highly unlikely Pierre Garcon will play in the slot. Morgan and Hankerson are stronger candidates.
|

Re: Jabar Gaffney Released
Last thing I'll say about Gaffney until we see Garcon in the regular season: I saw a quick NFL Network highlight of his amazing one-handed catch from the Vikings game...really impressive. Very glad the dude made it back to NE because money ain't everything and he's in a much better situation there.

I'll tell you I was at a cherity event recently and many of the Redskins were there, I saw many of the WR's Banks, AA, Robertson, Paul and I noticed Banks is short, Robertson is well not much taller then me it seemed at 5-7, AA was tall and skinny, but watching Paul.....I thought something was wrong. I thought oh wow Landry showed up, then I Realized it wasn't his number being worn. I then thought which LB showed up until I heard the announcer say the name Paul. He is huge. I was suprised and actually now knowing he's switching to TE makes me feel better cause I was worried about his speed. |

As I've said before, Banks looks like a 5-year old catching and running with a football.
