Re: Secondary a Primary Concern
If C Griff can get on the field and get crushed play after play with the first team, there is really no excuse, lets see what Crawford can do. C Griff shoulda been cut already, I hated the signing then, and i hate it worst now. I thought C Griff was gonna play safety, no way he is CB material.

Re: Secondary a Primary Concern
Let's face it. If the secondary was above average people would at least be suggesting our D could be elite if all the starters stay healthy.
But no one is because of Hall and the safeties giving up big plays all day long. |
Re: Secondary a Primary Concern
The Redskins should have kept Atogwe. I can understand letting Landry go. But all Atogwe had to do was use the offseason to get healthy. But that didn't happen. Let's hope the new additions at the safety position are adequate.

How is a troublemaker that is always in danger of going to jail or getting suspended an upgrade? While resources are limited, I hope the Redskins can do a better job than Talib in replacing Hall next season. |

The coaching staff can't even get D. Hall to shut up, how are they going to keep Talib from staying out of trouble? |

I think its a strong possibility if Morris is here and Talib stays out of trouble this year. He's got talent and we need a CB bad. |
The coaching staff can't even get D. Hall to shut up, how are they going to keep Talib from staying out of trouble?
I was being funny but also serious. Im agreeing with Chico. If talib stays out of trouble and has a productive year than we will move on him. If he doesnt they wont. As of rite now it isnt our coaching staffs job to keep him in line. He will have to prove he can do that first. Oh and dont underestimate the difficulty of keeping halls mouth shut! |
Re: Secondary a Primary Concern
If Cedric Griffin doesn't have a strong game against either the Colts or the Bucs, he will definitely be cut. Tanard Jackson has the ability to be a decent safety. He should be better than what Atogwe or Landry was.
|
Re: Secondary a Primary Concern
Not a chance Jackson is better than OJ or LaRon. He can't tackle.
|
Re: Secondary a Primary Concern
I just hope we get lucky with a couple of these secondary players. Merriweather, Madieu, Jackson, C.Griff, etc.... Just hope one or two stick. It's only preseason game 3, and so I'm reserving judgement.
Otherwise, it will be hard to address all of the secondary concerns in the draft next year when we already need: LB, CB/safety, O-line (RT), etc... With another $18 mill penalty, hard to imagine we could sign a ton of talent all to back loaded contracts. |
Re: Secondary a Primary Concern
What would be even better is if Crawford developed into the starter opposite Wilson. Draft another qualify prospect next year (after a right tackle).
Speaking of right tackles Massie didn't look good tonight. Big and slow. |

He is our best corner - but - that aint sayin much and at the end of the day it just aint good enough. He catches all the hell from everyone because he runs his mouth. You know he does.
|
I don't fanatically hate on D. Hall like some people, but I think he is at best a 2nd or nickel corner.
As it always happens, people love to harp on just one guy. But our secondary as a whole is very mediocre. Hall may be the best of them, but that is not saying much. And saying that he is the worst is pretty stupid. Personally I thought that last season the coaching staff was pretty aggressive and put a lot on a mediocre secondary. Hopefully that doesnt happen again but who knows. The Skins need to either get lucky in drafting a starting corner or acquire one free agency (and not a headcase like Aquib). Also we need to see what happens with the safety position, which has been an issue ever since Sean Taylor's passing. Sent from my Samsung Galaxy SIII using Tapatalk 2. |

Hall can be a game-changer, but in both directions. When he whiffs it often results in an opposing TD or big gain. I honestly think for his reward/risk ratio to be positive he has to create at least one turnover every game. |

Because of our poor offense, the Redskins have typically not being able to take advantage of turnovers. However, you are correct...when Hall whiffs, he whiffs big time. And he also can't tackle, yet somehow he ends up 2nd or 3rd in team tackles (at least way back). |

Yes, D.Hall is the equivalent of Sexy Rexy. If he can keep making interceptions / good plays, he's worth it. Once Hall stops getting the interceptions, it becomes painful to watch. I'm hoping this year he can recreate himself in the secondary. |
Re: Secondary a Primary Concern
Wilson hands down is out best corner. As for DHall? I just want the guy to play ball. Quit starting shit on the field cause you can't back it up w/ your play. He can't tackle or cover but he's got great ball skills. I think DHall would've been a great wr. He never even should have tried to be a DB. But the coaches need to help him out and not leave him one on one with guys like Dez Bryant.

I honestly don't think any of our guys can cover the likes of Bryant, Marshall, or any top WR one-on-one in key situations. You can do that when you have a shut down corner like Nnamdi (when he was in Oakland) or Revis. When you have guys like that, you can send the house on a blitz and leave your shutdown corner one-on-one covering the WR. You really can't do that in key situations with our mediocre secondary. |

They cant. Look at recent history. Only way they can cover number ones is if the front 7 puts so much pressure on the qb that he cant get em the ball. Anytime i see an opposing qb with alot of time i hold a pillow in front of my face like im watching a damn horror movie. Rome wasnt built in a day though. I keep hearing bob barker say " redskin d- backs , come on down - your the next contestant on the time to get gone! |

Everytime I see Haslett send a jailhouse break blitz, I am always prepared to see a long completion or even a TD. |

Same here. Trouble is if you don't get pressure on the QB just by rushing 4, then you give the opposing QB and WRs plenty of time to get open against our bum secondary. Orakpo and Kerrigan are so key for us. If they can get pressure without having to send the house, then the LBs can drop into a zone and take away the underneath outlets, while the QB won't have time to go deep over our bum secondary. But if we have to send the house to get pressure, we're in trouble. It's all up to Orakpo and Kerrigan (and the D Line) to hide the secondary problems. |

They were able to generate a rush with their front-four and not expose the secondary. |
Re: Secondary a Primary Concern
Its gonna take more than Rak and Kerrigan. We are gonna need inside push and would like to see Wilson or Jackson in the "rush" rotation as well, keeping Rak and Kerrigan fresh.
I think are safety coverage will be much better than last years. |

ummm no. Rolle certainly is not. Phillips played decent after shaking the injury bug. I wouldnt say miles, perhaps the closer mesurement would be feet. |

I am a little biased cus im a miami grad but i hate the gints with a passion. Rolle had 96 tackles last year and was a huge part of the run they made. Who is he only feet better than on our team ? Jackson - doughty - or merriweather? Come on man. Id give up our entire lot for those two in a heartbeat. I stand by my statement. |
Re: Secondary a Primary Concern
Merriweather, Jackson, Williams I think coverage-wise potential to be just a strong or stronger. Up on run support, i give rolle and phillips a potentially overwhelming edge. They are certainly a better combo, but in the context, we may slightly below average to average play, the giants safety play is probably average to slightly above average. They are nothing spectaculer at this point, largely based on can Phillips take that next step? If he does, then its a different convo.

Fair enough. At this point we have seen the giants duo step up. Our guys are a complete question mark because they are all new to the team. With every ounce of my being i hope you will be giving me a big fat i told you so later on. Lol. |
