Im Not nearly in the know as smootsmack and if they were recently signed to contract extensions than i can only assume snyder has bought vinny back into the fold.

The contract extension was also reported by the Wapo, maybe they got the story from profootballtalk?

Redskins give contract extensions to coaches Jim Haslett, Danny Smith

Re: Did Shanny Strip Haslett of Play Calling vs Rams?

Didn't Danny Smith and Jim Haslett receive contract extensions like a year ago? Because, I don't see the logic in giving those coaches, yet, another contract extension after two blocked punts, no decent kick-off returns, and two games in which the defense gave up 30+ points. That just does not compute, so I'm calling BS on that part of the story.

I can, however, believe that Raheem Morris was brought in to replace Haslett by next year. And, it just might happen sooner than that if the 'skins defense is starting to take sides (Haslett VS Morris.) My personal opinion, I've never been very high on Haslett to begin with, but I do give him credit with improving the defense from his first year. Unfortunately, with the injuries starting to pile up, I don't see a continuation of improvement on the defensive side of the ball. However, it's just two games, so things may drastically change between now and by mid-season.

whether they get extentions or not, they still could be fired at a drop of a hat if their performance lags...non-story imo

Agreed! I don't see it being much of a factor regardless. If it is true, it was probably just something that was agreed upon several months ago.

Re: Did Shanny Strip Haslett of Play Calling vs Rams?

I don't see the defense taking sides. Morris was brought in to help the weakest part of our team. The secondary. He's great at motivating his guys and they'll be loyal to him but they'll still understand that Haslett is the DC. I see Morris cheering on the offense and keeping his guys motivated while they're getting burnt...but he's also helping them play better than they really are, especially in Week 1.

We're in the 3rd year of the 3-4 and should see some strides this year barring any more devastating injuries like Kerrigan, Bowen, Cofield, Wilson, Hall or God forbid Fletcher.

I don't know why we're struggling so much other than our secondary is being exploited, but I don't see a mutiny happening.

No one, at least it seems to me, is pointing out that the Defense is directly responsible for 1 redskins touchdown in each game. I think that is worth some discussion as well

That, I give the players all the credit for making the big plays. It's not the players I'm concerned about.

Special teams canceled BOTH of those TDs out unfortunately.

True, but that's not on the defense or defensive play calling.
Contradiction...

We are one of the least "deep" and talented in the league, and you may not see Amendola have a better game then this because there are better secondary's that'll be able to man up and jam him off the line.

Haslett didn't have many options.. I don't know what he could of done besides play man across the board, and hope for the best. Even then, I don't see Riley being able to man up on the slot all game.

If it was ME. I would of brought in Crawford to man up Amendola in rotation w/ Hall and run a Over Man at the top. Still wouldn't of stopped the quick throws, but at least we could made Bradford think about it.[/QUOTE]

This is what I'd have done also. Haslett didn't adjust and he should have mid-way through the 1st qtr at the latest...it's pretty obvious. The Rams were moving up and down the field with ease, gotta change things up.

Excellent point. It would huge if the defense could keep that up.

Remember the Saints a couple of years ago? They gave up tons of yards and points. But the defense also put points on the board, enabling them to win the big dance.

Giants and Patriots had two of the worst Ds last season, so did Green Bay.

San Francisco was the exception...big season BECAUSE of their D.

Giants D was lights out, especially the front 7, by playoff time though.

Patriots never got it together.

Giants win SB.

Still confused about the Danny Smith thing. They had him re-signed back around the beginning of OTA's......oh well.

Something tells me Haslett will be the head coach once Mike Shanahan decides to step down. Unless the Redskins become a top 2 defense and Shanahan stays, I expect Jim Haslett to be a head coach somewhere else in the NFL.

Dude!! You are wrong, he is not good enough to be DC and you think he can be a HC? No way in hell!! He has been headcoach twice (if you count the Tuskers job) and interim HC with the Rams. He is done as a HC.

I would be willing to wear a haynesworth jersey with a mcnabb hat to the home opener over this ever happening because i am willing to sacrifice my body for the benefit of my team. Besides haslett becoming ours or anybodies head anything being wrong on so many levels what is the part about shanny sticking around if we become a top two defense mean?

Raheem Morris will jump over him to HC if we somehow lose both Shanahans.

Or, meet London Fletcher, Player-Coach.

No he wont "jump over" him because haslett will not even be considered for the job. Our coaches last name will be shanahan for years to come

Wouldn't be the first time we've promoted a coordinator to HC. At least this one has actual head coaching experience and probably knows the team colors.

Re: Did Shanny Strip Haslett of Play Calling vs Rams?

Where did you guys go with this thread? Neither MS or KS are going anywhere for awhile. Raheem Morris isn't jumping into the HC job by any means. He may be a DC one day but he won't get the head coaching gig. Honestly at the end of the year Danny Smith and possibly Has go, but I want a good DC the bucs D was not that great with Morris at the helm. This team needs a marque DC and SP teams coach to reach its next goals. Championship!

REDSKINS4ever 09-21-2012 02:39 AM

Re: Did Shanny Strip Haslett of Play Calling vs Rams?

Jim Haslett would be the head coach before Raheem Morris. But I doubt seriously if anyone is going anywhere. Kyle Shanahan is the OC. Haslett is the DC. Mike Shanahan is the HC and Bruce Allen is the GM.
Your afraid kyle will be coach and not last long?
I'd be more afraid he would last long. He doesn't strike me as anywhere near ready to be an HC, and especially for the same franchise he was OC, and btw his pops was HC a minute ago lol. He might be a good HC prospect someday, but no reason for Dan to take that risk when you have Raheem Morris there who has actual HC experience and appears the natural leader (maybe already with the defense?). Assuming Mike leaves, offer Kyle a year extension as OC and see what he can do on his own. If the offense remains great and Morris can't fix the defense in, say, three years you hand the team to Kyle.

what sayeth the mob?

I think Kyle is a tremendously underrated coordinator and I know he's one of the most loved people in all of Redskins Park, but I'm not sure he's ready to handle all that's involved with being a head coach

No but he will be when pops steps down. Just seems like the natural progression to me.

Yeah thats how I feel about him too. The reason why his play calling sucked here is because he had essentially a backup QB as his starter and no great play makers. I think his dad will let him know when he is ready to be a head coach, which I wouldnt be surprised to see that happening in 2 years when Mikes contract expires

I don't know about that. If Mike Shanahan leads the Redskins into at least one Super Bowl before his contract his up, look for the Redskins to extend his contract or give him a new one. Kyle Shanahan may take over the head coaching duties in Washington someday, but if he does well, like Norv Turner did in Dallas, look for other teams to pursue K. Shanahan.

Agree fully with this and I'll take it one step further to say as long as RGIII is here, Kyle will be his coach (either OC or HC) unless Kyle decides otherwise. He's not going anywhere, any time soon.

So far so good with Kyle this year, not ready to crown him anything special yet. He's been a let down since he has been here. I do have the confidence he can be good, but needs to show it this year.
