Matty - I feel sending the leader of your defense packing rarely results in a good outcome.

Re: Samari or Freddy?
The whole story will be different 24 hours from now and what are the reports about samuels getting the biggest signing bonus in Redskins history?( in REDSKINS history that must be the biggest bonus ever!!)
NE WAYS i got the best basketball in the world signed by the entire maryland basketball team i need to stare at it for a while then give it as a present........ MAYBE! |
Re: Samari or Freddy?
what about ty law ? if we are going to spend 10s of millions y not?
Does anyone else feel we can spend this money in a more needed place? i mean 15 million can be split a lot of ways! we gotz to let things play out |
Re: Samari or Freddy?
Daseal nailed it on the head. Sending off your leader on defense will never EVER result in a good outcome. Rolle will demand at least 12 mill in a signing bonus thats a minimum. If Smoot goes we really have no true solid leader on defense. LaVar can't do it we have seen it before and he has failed. Then you have Pierce who did a wonderful job and he may not be here. Then it goes to a player who has only been with the team for 1 year Springs. This would be his first time carrying a team I do not know if he can do it or not. I have said it before and will keep saying it. Danny boy can't keep doing this. We keep giving money that honestly I don't know where it comes from. We are already on a sinking ship with all of our contracts and money we have to shell out. And yet we keep throwing it out like it doesn't even matter. At least I would repsect giving a player who has been here his whole career the money and some FA. MAN I JUST LOVE THE REDSKINS OFFSEASONS, FILLED WITH SUCH EXCITEMENT!!!

Re: Samari or Freddy?
Rolle is a top 10 corner, sorry guys but Smoot isn't quite there yet. More like top 15.
If Smoot and Rolle are both looking for the same money, Rolle is the better player therefore the better value. Don't forget Williams coached Rolle and probably feels he's a better fit in his defense. That's the only thing that's making me feel ok about this deal. If Williams wants Rolle and we have to let Smoot walk, I'm ok with that if that's what Coach Williams wants. Nobody can question his ability to put together a top notch defense.
I concur Matty, I believe William's likes Smoot, but for the same money likes Rolle a lot more, Daesel makes a good point about getting rid of a leader on defense, but a true leader lead's with his action's, besides that's what Gibb's is for, I have alway's felt verbal leader's are way overated, but I do understand his sentiment for Smoot as I have as well, but $10mil for Smoot is a very, very nice offer, we can't pay him like an elite CB because he is not. Rolle on the other hand is and elite CB. Perhap's this is being done to persuade Smoot to sign who know's, but if Smoot want's to make this about money after turning down a $10mil signing bonus, then we are showing no disloyalty by looking for the best bang for the buck. |

It seem's to work for New England, and they don't seem to concerned about losing Law this year as well. |
Re: Samari or Freddy?
where did lavar fail go to "return of lavar" read the epic battle of lavar and his values. its a long thread but full of oposition. I was on the side of lavar and don't understand why everyone feels we do not need him any more. I don't want to open up a can of worms but why is about half of us not on his side. He got hurt and we were better a year, on the other thread some said we were better because we didn't have him. Many didn't go that far but most were against him in some way. i don't know where he failed or where everyone felt that he wasn't a team leader.
Springs is a leader regardless of his time. T.O is a leader w/ 1 year i would say. Springs does the monday night show on comcast and he was devoted to the fans does this make him a leader, Griffin is also a leader you failed to mention but he has been here for a year too. Also how do you know who is the leader, what makes you feel that arrington is not the leader? if there is a reason i am willing to listen but i don't know where "he has failed" :( |
Matty - I feel sending the leader of your defense packing rarely results in a good outcome.
Saying he is the leader of the defense is a little subjective and frankly I agree with someone who said earlier that this leadership talk is a little overrated. Players understand the business side of things, and I think it was Pierce who said that the guys on defense are used to the constant changes. I love Smoot and the way he plays with such heart, but should we pay him top 5 corner type of money just for the sake of holding on to a 'leader'? |
Re: Samari or Freddy?
I wouldn't say for the sake of a "leader" but I would say for the sake of someone who we KNOW what we are getting. There's no guarantee that Rolle would pan out.
|
Re: Samari or Freddy?
And I also feel that Smoot has done nothing but get better in recent years.

very close to my opinion, i want smoot back but again i say there is a reason why williams is behind getting rolle. I mean if smoot doesn't want to sign i don't understand how we are turning our backs on him. I said before in other threads that i am all for lobbing but 32 hours from the dead line is not lobbing it is being stubborn, i said that if we didn't budge then it would be smoots job to budge. i don't care how that sounds but someone earlier said that smoot has expressed that he wants to be with us, i don't think he has done that. |
Re: Samari or Freddy?
I don't think he has failed either. I think simply him returning next year will add another dimension to our D and provide some much needed turnovers.

Please tell me where LaVar has failed in the past? Unless you have been in the huddle during the game, how do you know who the true leader on our team is? It seems to me that you think Pierce could be one of our leaders next year. Yes, he is one of our best players, but if he can be a "leader" then what makes you think LaVar cant? If you mention the Redskins to anyone outside DC, Im sure most of them will think of LaVar. He is one of the top linebackers who has as much heart as Smoot if not more. I dont understand how our defense will be worse with LaVar in the lineup and why all of a sudden so many of you are against him just because he got hurt. Anyone can be a team leader if they want and I know someone will step up if Smoot leaves. |

Ok guys, let's not turn this into another "Return of Lavar" thread..lol
y? what did smoot do maybe he should beat the shit out of you and you'll do the dishes
all this women violence is funny to a point
Bauer this was a joke not a belief so lighten up. As far as my opinion about Smoot its just that my opinion and im entitled to it. As far as your other comments towards me dont let it happen again or I will make you my bitch and your sister will be doing my dishes! |
Re: Samari or Freddy?
I think Bauer was jsut lookin for reasons as to why you hate smoot. I know its your opinion, but I would also like to know why you have been a "smoot hater" for a long time.

100 ha ha ha i got it

Although he has improved on his tackling skills he has not been the best or close to it in open field tackles.I might be extra hard on him because when he came into the league he said his idol was Deion and I outright despise Deion. I do however admire his toughness and as bauer mentioned heart but the ability just isnt that of a number 1 corner. And I truely didnt want to offend anybody by either post just trying to be funny in the first and pissed off by bauers response.

Re: Samari or Freddy?
ok funbunch your joking ha ha i got it but just back up ur opinions thats about it i mean i don't claim to know everything as some of us here do, i mean i am open to opinion and your goals should be to change my opinion, if you don't like smoot then back it up, maybe i never knew something and i'll jump on your boat.
How are gonna have another fun bunch w/o continuity And i don't have any sisters! :) |
Re: Samari or Freddy?
o thanx you gave your opinion before i asked thats how i like my bitches!

Re: Samari or Freddy?
we good
|
Re: Samari or Freddy?
see now i see some reasons to why Samari should be here but i still haven't changed my opinion but if GW is cool w/ it i trust his descion and remember this could be a trick as said before to put pressure on smoot and also it could just be entirely untrue!
We will have to see but it seems some people on the team are advocating rolle coming here and these people aren't stupid |
Re: Samari or Freddy?
Ive noticed that Smoot does give receivers too much room and I have always wondered why so that is probably one of his major flaws. I know Smoot is not a number 1 corner and since he is asking for a salary that should be given to a number 1, we should seriously consider re-signing him. I dont hate Smoot but I am troubled by the fact that he says how badly he wants to be here and that it depends on whether we really want him. This is definitely not the case and I bet if some team were to offer him the big bucks he would gladly leave us. Honestly, it was Williams who put him on the map and Im sure he can do the same for whoever takes Smoot's place if he ends up leaving. Remeber, in the final game, springs and smoot were out for a good amount of time, leaving Harris and Wilds covering Moss and he still only got 5 catches.
|
Re: Samari or Freddy?
That is another good point in continuity. My question is though is Smoot the best for that position. In Coach Gibbs previous tenure he won 3 superbowls with 3 different qbs not much continuity there. However I do understand what you are saying and I agree but just get the proper players in there then hold on to them. This team has had a revolving door for too long now and its time it stops but I dont think it will until we can ship the Danny out of town.
|
Re: Samari or Freddy?
poor danny always being critisized and so far nothing has happened this season it is still possible that coles will stay and smoot and pierce will sign.
I guess it comes with the territory |
Re: Samari or Freddy?
Continuity is something we desperately need. But if u can get a guy whos better at his position than someone that is already with the team, it should be considered. Especially if the player does not want to be with the team.
|
Re: Samari or Freddy?
Remember, Gibbs is the guy who has the overall say with who we sign and dont sign.
|
Re: Samari or Freddy?
i still feel smoot will give in if he is given the chance i mean we can slap a tag on him right not the franchise tag but the transitional tag i think it is called, that would be an average of the top 10 CBs in the league and it would allow smoot to look for another team but it would give us a week to match any other team's offer.
I don't think smoot is as apreciated around the league as he is here.... i mean on the jets homepage there was a poll asking the best CBs in free agency and he was not even listed as an option and this was including all those even woodson when he had the tag on him so it would have included him if they felt him to be worthy. I think that smoot could understand that we may know that he is amazing but he may not be coveted to the level near rolle. Someday soon he will be but not yet. Rolle was on the list and i think he came in third behind ty law then woodson and that is good company. AGAIN WHY DON"T WE TRY FOR TY LAW IF WE ARE DISHIN OUT THE CASH |
Re: Samari or Freddy?
Is anyone here besides Bauer?
|
Re: Samari or Freddy?
what do you think can we get ty? y not if we are putting out that kind of $$$
|
Re: Samari or Freddy?
How do we know if we are really goin to put out that kind of money
|
Re: Samari or Freddy?
If Rolle is asking 15mil and Law is better than Rolle, how much do u think he will ask
|
Re: Samari or Freddy?
how much does ty want i mean we don't know the real numbers for rolle but w/ 15 million signing bonus it must be a large contract but i think that we could get ty if we REALLY persued i mean he is a team player wanting to stay w/ the patriot (thats not hard) but the cap penalty would be to great to keep him and the restructure would give him to little money so he left on good terms, i think that he would want to come to gibbs and williams and the number 3 defense. i mean we got to remember that is to our credit and defensive players want to be on good defenses and we have an amazing one!
|
Re: Samari or Freddy?
30 hours to go.....lets wait till then
|
Re: Samari or Freddy?
Exactly...we have an amazing defense already. We need to think if spending a ton of money is worth it when our defense might not be able to improve all that much
