Re: Subtle Running Back Shuffle
I'm hearing Tim Hightower is working out for the Cards this week ..... If he's back to health .... Y the hell aren't we looking at bringing him back .... After Morris .... We have ....... Ummm just Morris really
That 3rd and short play calling is constantly an issue. Maybe it's trickery, maybe it's just closing your eyes and pointing at the 3rd and short play calls in the playbook, but there has GOT to be something better than a pitch, 3 yards behind the line of scrimmage in hopes of getting the first down.
No doubt,Morris has got the power to pick up the first going straight up the middle but pitching it out gives the def too much of a chance to stop it Also hated the other short yardage call with Qb sneak,I don't think that will ever be a good call with RG 3,he's too lean, doesn't have the body to move the pile in that situation |
Re: Subtle Running Back Shuffle
We've run some dives and and power runs on short yardage too though.
Sometimes you have to go against your tendencies. Or perhaps there was something on film the coaches thought they could exploit. I know, it's easier to just blast a play in hindsight when it doesn't work.
It is of course, but you would think after it didnt work 1 or 2 times you wouldnt try it a 3rd or 4th. I hated that play call. 1. Alfmo doesnt have the speed to get to the edge from a dead stop start 2. At least get Young in the backfield to lead 3. Why pitch to the the short side, your giving the Corner and Safety an advantage. Later in the game there was another pitch sweep where Young did lead and it went to the long side of the field and it went for decent 8-9 yard gain. That was the right adjustment by Kyle. |
Re: Subtle Running Back Shuffle
That makes no sense at all. In Morris, we have a RB who should have a 1,000+ yard rookie season, will only get better, and probably has many productive years ahead of him and you think he's being showcased for a trade? Despite Shanahan's stellar record in finding and developing RB's, players like Morris don't grow on trees. Adding to that, we don't have a proven back behind him. No, he won't be traded but Shanny will add some more RB bodies to help him next season.
Also, I strongly agree with those who think we need to add an explosive third down back. RGIII needs more weapons. With a couple more explosive players, our offense could be spectacular.
I wasnt saying it was going to happen. I am saying it wouldnt surprise me if it happened. And to address the bold, Mike does believe that Alfred Morris(s) grows on trees. The 4-7 rounds are where the trees grow. |

Really? Morris is good but he's not that good.He doesn't have the speed or the moves to accomplish something like that. If he stays healthy for a full season playing in every game I would guess 1500 yards tops |
Re: Subtle Running Back Shuffle
Yeah I don't see Morris being that good either. He just doesn't have the breakaway speed to be able to rip off long runs like Dickerson was able to do quite often.
I agree, a 1500 yard season is probably the ceiling for him. Nothing wrong with that. Plus you have to consider the yards that RG3 takes away from him. |

Re: Subtle Running Back Shuffle
A back typically has 3-5 really good seasons in him before they start to break down. I say ride Morris for what he's worth while he's young and can handle it.
Yes. If he ain't tired, keep him in there. |
Re: Subtle Running Back Shuffle
Didn't Bruce Allen bring back Keiland Williams?
|
Re: Subtle Running Back Shuffle
Maybe we can get another RB like Jaamal Berry formerly of Ohio State in the 6th next year to be our 3rd down speed back
|
Re: Subtle Running Back Shuffle
I can't wait to see Roy Helu next season in this offense. He is a change of pace back and his speed should also be a threat with RGIII behind center. Helu has not hands out the backfield which gives us another option. Royster is okay as a 3rd string back or short yardage back from time to time. AL Mo runs behind his pads and has great vision which you can not teach to a RB. Great draft pick by Shanny and staff.
Whatever happen to that should we fire Mike Shanahan thread? That was a joke to even suggest that. HTTR |

Re: Subtle Running Back Shuffle
It seems like his "evaluation process" speech lit a fire under the players. That's the best coaching he's done all year. It irritates me a bit that teams need an ailing coach, an ailing young fan, or another "feel good story in the making" to become motivated to win. It shouldn't be a surprise that KC starts winning games now... #ShannyStrong

Whatever happen to that should we fire Mike Shanahan thread? That was a joke to even suggest that. HTTR
Lmao he's won two consecutive games against teams with bigger problems than our own. Mike's record here as HC is (still) the real joke, but things are looking up for us and therefor him right now. Mike's got a fantastic opportunity to lead this group to a new level over the next five games. We control our destiny for the playoffs and have a real shot to get in. We have the ROY at QB who's exceeding all expectations, even against big challenges like poor pass protection and truly bizarre incidents like playing WR against Ryan Clark and running the option when the whole defense knows it's coming. The bottom line is we should see an intense, focused group for each of the next 20 quarters of football. That's the real test. Any coach worth keeping should have his group dialed in from this point on, period. So yeah, if we see another flat performance this season I still want Mike and his group gone. There's just too much promising HC talent likely to be available after this season, and we've got something every (potential) HC wants. 2013 represents a huge opportunity to upgrade our coaching talent...gotta be excited about it. |
