Re: Cedric Suspended 4 Games
You think it gives athletes a competitive advantage like hgh or steroids though?
Well it is considered an amphetamine so it potentially can give someone more energy, longer periods of being 'on' and heightened focus and awareness so comparatively to someone who is not taking it, I can see the competitive advantage. Here's the ridiculous part about the whole thing, Adderal itself is not banned, but taking it without a prescription from the team doctor is. Guys were talking about it on NFL Radio last week. Seemingly players are trying to skirt the system by going to their hometown docs or college campuses to get the drug because they don't want to go through legitimately getting tested and diagnosed by the team docs for the risk of them not getting the prescription and/or at contract time being considered 'risky' because of the diagnosis. Either way, it was a completely selfish act by Griffin and very disappointing, especially the timing of it. |
The NFL loves the Aderal thing lately huh. Makes it look like they're actually testing players and they care about PEDS but catch guys for a basically legal substance that doesn't do much so it doesn't look terrible on the league. Meanwhile half the league's on Dragon Growth Hormone but no one gets
caught. God I love the NFL and America so much.
I think only a small percentage of the players who say the tested positve for aderal are actually on Adderall. The Adderall thing isnt the NFL testing for it - its just become the trendy excuse for players/agents to give to garner public sympathy. Adderall is specifically listed on the NFL's banned substance list, and players generally cant use it even with a prescription from a team doctor. They have to get a special exemption from the league to use it. |

Agreed, what sounds better releasing to the fans... Cedric Griffin suspended after testing positive for steroid use. or Cedric Griffin suspended after testing positive for the focus enhancing product Aderal. |

Doesn't the league release what they tested positive for specifically? Or do they just say fail, and then an agent can claim whatever? I would assume the league says what drug failed them but I guess I don't know now that I think about it. |

That if there is a legitimate NFL approved diagnosis and prescription then it is ok. |
Re: Cedric Suspended 4 Games
Not too smart by the FO to know Cedric was going to be possibly suspended for a good while with Routt out there on the market. Really no logic behind that decision. Crawford is an inexperienced, raw corner who is not a better player than Routt. So there no arguement Crawford is a stronger player, he is clearly not or he'd be at least active for our games.
Well, the only thing we conclusion that we can draw is that the staff didn't feel Crawford was better than Griffin. It is quite possible they consider Crawford better than Routt or any other waiver wire/practice squad options out there. Honestly, I have no clue as to how he will do. Crawford had some really good plays in preseason but several bad ones once the season started. Were the bad plays the result of correctable rookie errors? Or, once the regular season started, did the speed of the game expose his physical and talent limitations? I am hopeful it is merely the first. Would be nice if we could hit with one of DB late rounders, but I guess we can't complain too much about that sort of thing in a draft year that nets us Alfred Morris and UFA signing like Forbath. |

The league doesnt test for Adderall. They test for amphetamine, which is in Adderall and a bazillion other things. The test results just come back as positive at a certain level for amphetamine. There's no way the league could definitavley know if the player took Adderall specifically, or some other banned substance containing amphetamine. |
Re: Cedric Suspended 4 Games
The NFL substance abuse policy is so convoluted and secretive that I gave up trying to figure it out long ago.
End of the day, all that matters to me is that Cedric Griffin won't be on the field for us the next four games. |

Re: Cedric Suspended 4 Games
Players don't need to use that stuff. All they need to do is drink 10 Monster Energy drinks before a game.

Maybe, but maybe they believe Crawford can compete. CG was playing at a pretty good level IMO (better than Routt) and probably just kept Crawford off the field. I like the FO using our drafted talent too. |

He looked good in preseason with those INTs but looked like crap against the Cincinatti Bengals receivers. He got burned like Freddy Kruger for a long TD pass. Hopefully, he's been fine tuning his coverage skills in practice since we last saw him against Minnesota. |

Re: Cedric Suspended 4 Games
Browner of the Seahawks got the bad news today also.

Re: Cedric Suspended 4 Games
It just popped into my head, but why didn't Griffin just serve the time while he was hurt? Instead of appealing it and dragging it out, why not just serve that suspension during that time he wasn't playing. I imagine that failed drug test came up some time ago.

Maybe it was a longer suspension? But yeah it doesn't make sense. They could have taking his paycheck away while he was hurt. |

Is it possible he failed his test while he was hurt and the process was on going while he got healthy? |

Very well could be. Like Smoot mentioned, the whole process is so secretive that it's hard to know without the league, team or player commenting and that's very unlikely to happen. It was just a random thought that popped in my head. He very well may have been notified a week or so after he got back. Who really knows.... just random shit popping in my head. :) |

Exactly. Adderall is more socially acceptable than cocaine or steroids so why would the player admit to something worse if he didnt have to. They dont want their mothers, fathers, or children knowing what they were really doing so they say they were taking adderall. |

That was a pretty rude welcome to the NFL (reg season). Green is a superstar and the other guy is pretty good too, plus the the ginger QB gets it done. I wouldn't put Crawford on Smith this Sunday, but let him work on the other receivers. But no, I don't have any evidence/info he'll develop over a four game span. Just seems like we're due to have a homegrown DB become a starter :) |
Re: Cedric Suspended 4 Games
Was it ever stated anywhere whether or not he had a prescription for aderall? Was he diagnosed with ADD?
|
Re: Cedric Suspended 4 Games
Apparently it doesn't matter whether you have a prescription or not...unless it is league approved.

You have to throw the young ones into the fire at some point, in this case Crawford.

Crawford I'm sure has learned from his mistakes. He claims he's a better player now after not playing for the past seven weeks. We'll see.... I think the kid is going to surprise us. |

Re: Cedric Suspended 4 Games
Haslett needs to turn Rob Jackson loose on Flacco at least on third downs. He performed well when he got his chance against the giants. With the redskins' secondary still giving up some big plays, getting thinner in the secondary, not being able to put much pressure on the opposing qbs should be reasons enough to take a gamble with going with Jackson. You can combine this with not being able to stop the oppositions' third down conversions and Joe Flacco's inconsistency (especially related to the pass rush pressure put on him).

Maybe also rotate Bryan Kehl in the mix, he was pretty good during the pre-season. |

Yup. Actually I was thinking having the both of them on the field at the same time at times- especially on passing downs. Kehl dropped a couple of interceptions and caught one in preseason, but the point being is he has enough coverage skills to be in position to take advantage of errant passes or mistakes from the qb. And being in position in coverage has really nothing to with the level of opposition ( to those mad hatters saying - it was only preseason). |
