I'll have to say when we went to the movies Saturday I got an erie feeling sitting there and made notes of the exit signs. Today my wife was crying after dropping our daughter off at school.

I went to the movies right after Aurora and did the same thing. They had an officer there in the theatre. The bad part is, he wasn't clearly labeled as a policeman. Made people very nervous for a bit. Clearly wearing a bulletproof vest, etc. Didnt have big POLICE markings on it...

Really is sad. Often times I feel for the families, but it doesn't really 'affect' me or my day to day. Even as an individual without kids, I can't fathom dropping your child off at elementary school, and not picking them back up. That is absolutely unreal to me. I don't know if I can think of a worse atrocity than killing innocent children in a school.

I know people say they wouldn't give their children access to their guns, etc. Keep in mind, this guy was 20. Most 20 year olds have access to everything in the house, etc. We're not talking about a 12 year old getting access to the safe. Something seems really off with this family.

As a parent who drops kids off ... I am sure more than one parent was in hurry mode that morning. Maybe even losing patience and giving their kid the "Come on, come on ... move it" w/out even thinking about it.

I can't change what happened but it is my sincere hope that each of the parents got the opportunity to say good-bye and give their child a hug that morning. It's not much of a wish, but one I hope is true nonetheless.

I swear, I cannot think of this tragedy without tearing up. My daughter turns six in a month. I can't look at the pictures of the murdered kids b/c I would see her in every picture.

Seeing the pictures and hearing the names of those children... man, just devastating.

I have a six year old daughter too. Just put her on the bus. My wife is her art teacher and had to go in early for an emergency meeting. Man what you said about those parents last words is so hard to think about. I have sent my daughter off to school before after she acted up in the morning and telling her she is in trouble when she gets home. Whenever i yell at her i always say "daddy loves you when you are good or bad". My wife was looking at a picture of one of the victims last nite and asked me "doesnt this look like Rhiannon"? I just said no - but she is a beautiful little girl now stop looking at her. Truth be told she looked alot like my daughter. God i cannot even imagine my state of mind. I hope above all that none of the children suffered and that the parents somehoe find the strength to realize their little children are angels and safe in Gods kingdome until they get there with them. Just went to see my daughter and her class do their xmas play at her school. I realized about after thirty seconds that the front row was not a good place to sit. All i could think about was those kids and parents in CT that should have been doing the same thing today. Was real hard to smile for the children there today. Ugghh.

Same here. I feel like I should read everything that gets written about these 26 victims, just so that they capture more of my attention than do discussions on mental health and gun control, and certainly more attention than gets the shooter.

Seriously. So I guess their solution for this gun control problem is to cripple the budget so that no school in that district can afford even minimal security measures in the future? The money quote in that article is where he talked about how the school failed to provide adequate security for the kids there. He shot out a window, so what's next? Every school in America having locked doors and bullet proof windows? No idea how they're going to afford that when they won't even be able to afford teachers if these people win this lawsuit. I'm pretty confident the security plan at that school is probably very similar to the security plan at schools across America, i.e. only way in is through the main entrance, every other outside door stays locked, once inside you're required to get a visitor's pass, etc. The shitty part is that this probably won't be the last lawsuit either.

And that's why it will fail. Sorry, their is no "plan" that adequately addresses random acts of evil. "Review security measures, check; Run Fire drill/bomb scare, check; Practice safety procedures for crazy gunned up nut rampaging through the hallways, check."

The expense is unlikely to be in victorious lawsuit or settlement of them. Rather, it will be in the expense of defending them. Money, as you point out, that could be better spent improving school security.

Exactly. I understand the parent's concern that their kid might be scarred for life, but to me it screams selfishness because of the countless other lives affected, not just the other kids who witnessed these evil acts but also generations of future kids who will be affected by the massive budget loss that will result from this lawsuit.
