i dont want to hear anything else about the coaching staff. They are fully responsible for this turn around. Today proved it. No one deserves more credit than Jim Haslett.
Haslett's defense has given up a ton of points since the bye, except for the horrible Philly offense without Vick, and a Giants offense (with a inconsistent Eli) trying to play keep-away. For the season, practically everybody's been dropping 20-30 points on us easily.

We're still a bottom third defense, IMO.

Our defense has been much better since the bye, even before the bye you could see the play was becoming better. there is a massive difference between 20-30 points, you know that right?

Absolutely. We might not be elite, but we're leaning more towards the defense we had last year. I was hating on Haslett all season, but he really is seeming to come into his own. I think with a couple with Orakpo and Carriker coming back, and a few more pieces on defense, we're going to be a team to fear for fears.

are you not considering the talent level he has at his disposal? Specifically in the secondary.

and yeah there's a very big difference from 20 - 30 points.

We're not going to shut down anybody, outside of a hot stinky mess of an offense like Philly's a couple weeks ago.

We're on this playoff run because of our offense, not our defense. Would be nice to be great on both sides of the ball, but I don't think that's the case here.
Yes if we win next week it means we will be tied and we own the tie breaker
No one can own a tiebreaker before a season is over. We still play them to determine who would win the tiebreaker.

Next week would be our fourth division win, but Dallas already has three. If they were to beat us, they would have four.

They would win the tiebreaker on common opponents.

It's division wins then conference wins, then common opponents

Don't we own the conference?

Re: Skins 38 Browns 21 post game thread
It's division wins then conference wins, then common opponents
It's not actually, but it even if it was, it wouldn't matter. Conference wins would be equal if Dallas wins their last two NFC games and we go 1-1. Both teams would be 7-5.

The bottom line remains: if Dallas loses this week, and next week, and New York loses next week, we can clinch. But that's pretty far fetched In every other scenario, we have to beat Dallas to finish ahead of them.

Cleve had been playing well so to win on the road with a rookie qb making his first start is simply outstanding. But to put up 38 points? Gotta credit these coaches. Kyle called his best game as a skin. Cousins looked like a stud and he will be a starter in the NFL.

Yeah I agree our offense is carrying the D, but the play on defense side of the ball has been better since the beginning of the year. Haslett been scheming well and his halftime adjustments have been on point. He was dealt a bad hand with that secondary and 2 very important pass rushers. Ive been surprised.

We're on this run because were playing well on offense, defense, and special teams. Just think of what today would be like without the turnovers?

No team that wins 5 in a row wins them because of one side of the ball. The defense compliments our offense being that they are really opportunistic.

Not that I like that, I'd prefer being more balanced. Also, I agree that I'd take turnovers and a middle of the road defense, but currently we're middle of the road in turnovers (around 12th), and a high "bottom third" in overall defense.

Instead of hoping for this or that, let's just try to win out. Then we won't have to worry about Dallas/NY losing or anything.

Kyle Shanahan is a magician.

Re: Skins 38 Browns 21 post game thread

First, lets give a round of applause to the Shanahans. What a turn around, and they've finally improved their record here after going (5-11, 4-12 )

Second, what a win. This in my opinion was probably the biggest win of the season, due to the circumstances, especially after not having our starting QB and the Giants losing.

Third, What a draft. Cousins, was great insurance. I didn't like the move based on what other needs we have, but today, that pick was worth it, and in a few years when we trade Kirk, he'll get us some value. Hell, maybe a team like the Jets with Revis or the Chiefs with Eric Berry would be in trade discussions; but thats a long long ways away.
