We're supposedly also interested in Jammers teammate Corey Lynch; a FS/SS ST who filled in great last year for San Diego when their starting SS went out. He by the way, can catch unlike some of our other DBs, and he'll be very cheap. He would be insurance should we not get a safety we think can start.
SS, who are we higher on, Rambo or Swearinger?
Probably Swearinger between those two |

meriweather is still a baller... if he can stay healthy. having insurance wouldn't hurt.

What's that Mark Twain saying? "If you don't like the weather in New England, wait five minutes." Same concept for DJ and Thomas. I happen to think it'll be between Wilcox (my pick) or Duke in round 4. |

Draft week smokescreen or legit buzz. While S & CB are bigger needs, I don't see anyone on our WR group outside of Garcon who's not replaceable in 2014 with a draft pick. Even if it's not in the 2nd, I'd like to see us come away from rounds 2-5 with at least one WR and one speed RB. |
Re: Official Redskins Off-Season News & Rumors-Part Trois
TJax cannot even be in the building until the very end of August, making him unlikely as a week one starter.

Is that right? |

100% legit. Personally I think we're going to trade our 2nd round pick and have two 3rds. One will be a WR/possibly RB and the other will be a CB. I don't think we're taking a safety before round 4. And I think one our 5th round picks will be another offensive playmaker. |
Wonder what WR they are looking at?

Re: Official Redskins Off-Season News & Rumors-Part Trois
Hmmm....at this rate we're going to have to score 31 points a game minimum to be able to compete.

No problem. If we add two more offensive playmakers, we probably will. Besides, since Roger Goodell is so determined to turn the NFL into a flag football league, every team will be scoring 30 points per game in the near future. |

Looking at a lot of them |
Re: Official Redskins Off-Season News & Rumors-Part Trois
I'm all for taking the best player available, but is WR really that big of a need?
|
Re: Official Redskins Off-Season News & Rumors-Part Trois
I don't understand that move considering the dire state of our safety positions. Since Hankerson is disappointing and Moss is aging, I can understand the addition of another WR, but in the 2nd-round? Griffin will have plenty of targets between Garcon, Morgan, Moss, Hankerson, Robinson, Davis, Paulsen and hopefully Helu out of the backfield.
Is there internal concern about Garcon this year? Shanahan loves the smokescreens so I'm leaning towards that. I don't know what benefit a smokescreen would have for a team with no 1st-Round pick but that's what I am hoping for. We need a playmaker in the secondary and an upgrade at RT wouldn't hurt either. |
Looking at a lot of them
Swope would be a nice addition IMO. |
Re: Official Redskins Off-Season News & Rumors-Part Trois
I just dont know high id be on a move to have Jammer or D Hall as the starting FS this year. That would be a fail imo and would expect worse play out of that position this year than last (if thats possible).
Hate to say it, but much rather have Tanard Jackson at free safety than those two finished players. |

Absolutely.. Maybe not looking at the next 16 games but Morgan and Moss's contract expires at the end of the season, Robinson (to date) hasn't shown himself to be a consistent option. Hankerson is developing but so far inconsistent. Thinking long term, we've got Garcon and nothing. You have to support your QB with weapons. |

I have been trying to say this for years. Give your Oline some shotguns and you wont have to worry about your QB getting sacked. On a serious note. Given this type of draft, I am wondering if it isnt better to go with less needed positions early. There will probably be a run on DB's fairly early. And round 2 through round 4 or 5 rated safeties, at least, arent that dramatically different. Some teams may overlook some positions to get in on the run of DB's. We can still find decent ones in the middle rounds, but may be able to get some good talent that others passed on just because they werent a DB that a team had to get now instead of waiting. Also with the glut of DB's that will go in this draft, there is a very good chance that come time for training camp cuts, there could be some good veteran DB's getting cut and looking at minimum contracts for one year just to have a job. Im not convinced that if we dont draft DB's in rounds 2, 3, and 4, that it will be complete doom and gloom for our secondary. Not that I want to go this route, but we can probably upgrade the safety position 5 days before the season starts and have much better safety play than we had last year. |
Re: Official Redskins Off-Season News & Rumors-Part Trois
Between Leonard Hankerson and Aldrick Robinson, I don't see any better prospects than them to be drafted in the 3rd round or later. That doesn't mean someone may become a better pro or that Hankerson or Robinson have reached their peak. Also, I don't believe there's a high success rate converting CBs to Ss whether they're veterans or rookies.
|
Re: Official Redskins Off-Season News & Rumors-Part Trois
Yeah, if we can get Jammer and put him at FS and Meriweather is healthy at SS, that's very encouraging.
We still need more depth. I'm not counting on Tanard Jackson at all. If he gets on the field, bonus...or with Meriweather's health, insurance. |

Hankerson NEEDS to step his game up this year. He took a step in the right direction last year, but he had issues with consistency. Has to hold on to the ball more. Aldrick on the other hand there are a few prospects that could be drafted in the third or later who are "better." |

Aldrick needs to step it up too imo. I think its make or break for both, in fact both may not make it through cuts if they dont. |

I'm not sure anyone's willing to go that far. Robinson is the fastest player on the team and Hank has been productive but not consistent. Hankerson had 3 fewer catches and 30 fewer yards than Moss (but 5 fewer TD). If we add someone via the draft they will probably replace 2012 preseason man-crush Desmond Briscoe on the 53. |
Re: Official Redskins Off-Season News & Rumors-Part Trois
Aldrick could and probably should be a returner this year.
Banks is gone (should be) and Crawford might be seeing time on the field at nickel if we don't draft a CB who can step up, so why risk a thin secondary on punt returns? |

Re: Official Redskins Off-Season News & Rumors-Part Trois
Not Redskins thankfully, but the NFL offseason thread got locked. Rolando McClain strikes AGAIN!
Rolando McClain - Baltimore Ravens - 2013 Player Profile - Rotoworld.com Ravens ILB Rolando McClain was arrested Sunday evening in Decatur (AL) for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Eyewitnesses say police ordered McClain and several others to leave Pines Park after a large crowd had gathered. McClain refused and began "cursing" at officers, before being handcuffed, and bailing out of jail shortly thereafter. McClain has now been arrested three times in his hometown of Decatur since 2011. He needs to stop going back there for the sake of his livelihood, and perhaps his personal safety. Ravens GM Ozzie Newsome smartly guaranteed no portion of McClain's one-year, $700,000 contract. He will be released shortly. Apr 21 - 11:30 PM Source: WHNT-TV Huntsville ------------------------- The Ravens are "seeking more facts" on ILB Rolando McClain's latest arrest. "The only information we have at this time is from media reports," said a team spokesman. That implies they've yet to speak with the mercurial linebacker, who was signed just 12 days ago. There are very few scenarios in which McClain keeps his roster spot. He won't find a third chance easy to come by. Apr 22 - 9:10 AM Source: Jeff Zrebiec on Twitter ------------------------- Ravens ILB Rolando McClain disorderly conduct and resisting arrest charges reportedly arose after McClain said "(expletive) the police" as he walked by an officer, and "tried to jerk his arms away twice" as he was handcuffed. We're guessing "(expletive) the police" wasn't what the Ravens had in mind for a comeback credo when they gave McClain a second chance. Hopelessly immature and out of his depth as a professional, McClain is leaving a league that loves redemption stories little choice but to give up on him. Huh? We're gonna draft a WR now? If that's the case, and RT remains an issue this season you have to question the FO structure. And wonder if Vinnie is still in the building.
Insane. |

Also, helping the Redskins, the Victor Cruz situation is getting interesting...
Time running out on Cruz's free agency | New York Daily News Cliff notes: *Giants offer Cruz $7 million, he declines and wants $10-11 million. *Cruz gets a new agent, Jay-Z...who is pushing for a contract like Dwayne Bowe's (5 yr/$56 million). *Other option is a $2.879 one-year tender to stay with Giants another season. *Cruz did not sign an offer sheet with another team prior to 04/19 midnight deadline, meaning no other team wants to make him an offer. *Giants can reduce Cruz's one-year, $2.879 million tender to $630,000 if he doesn't sign a contract by July 17. *Giants GM Reese says he's not sure Cruz will report to team by Week 1. If Cruz holds out past Week 10, he loses a year of NFL accrued experience and will be an RFA again...and they'll repeat all of this mess in 2014. “Victor is not here. He is a free agent. He is exercising all of his options, and we will see where it goes,” Reese said. “I don’t assume anything. We’ll see. I can tell you this: When we get ready to play, when the season starts, we will have some good players out there. I’m not sure if Victor will be there or not. But I don’t assume anything.” |

I'd take a random rookie over Trueblood though.

Re: Official Redskins Off-Season News & Rumors-Part Trois
Nfldraftscout has come out with their top 90 RBs in the NFL.
Royster came in at 73. Alfred came in at 11. They also came out with their final mock draft and have us taking: Matt Elam S Dwayne Gratz CB Nico Johnson ILB JC Tretter OG Lavar Edwards OLB Jakar Hamilton S Anthony McCloud NT |
Re: Official Redskins Off-Season News & Rumors-Part Trois
They're not going to draft an RT just to draft an RT
They signed 3 RT (Polumbus, Pashos, Trueblood) and have 2 players they drafted in the past 2 years (Hurt, Compton) that all are candidates at RT. This one is an example where the staff/FO clearly has a different opinion and vision of need regarding this position and the 2013 draft.
Huh? We're gonna draft a WR now? If that's the case, and RT remains an issue this season you have to question the FO structure. And wonder if Vinnie is still in the building. Insane.
WR is still an issue on this team. Basically the future (2014 and beyond) of this position is Garçon and Hankerson. That's it. To ignore it in the draft is irresponsible. Also, using the BPA philosophy, especially if there is a run on secondary players in the 1st/2nd, WR may be the best value. |
