Re: Draft wrap-up 2013
Mel kiper just said the eagles will win the east smh lol
As funny as that may sound right now, he's not completely crazy. I still think we win the east this year, but whenever you have a team with a major roster turnover and coaching change, you never know. Who saw the 49ers as a NFC West champion once they signed Harbaugh and signed Carlos, Whitner, Brooks? Who saw the 2006 Saints as NFC South Champs once they got Reggie Bush, Drew Brees and Sean Payton? Who saw the 2010 Seahawks at 7-9 with Pete Carroll winning that division (at 7-9) and upsetting Seattle in the playoffs? The point is we all are laughing at the Eagles because they were so awful last year, but they had lots of injuries. Getting some of those guys back and healthy and getting new players across the team at DB, LB, DL, OL, TE and now they are almost a whole new team. The question is Chip Kelly. Is he Harbaugh and Pete Carroll? Or is he a Schiano? Or is he a Bobby Petrino/Nick Saban? That is the big question mark. They are a sleeper to win the East. But we are the favorites until RG3 and injuries say otherwise. |

Haha I didn't even look to see what the post was, but I just knew it was by Goat (and I was right) |
You know, Kiper is excellent at what he does which is evaluate college game tape, do great homework and background on them, excellent reporting from what he gets out of his sources about intangibles and project where they may go.
I don't think he knows squat about NFL rosters and depth charts from week to week (or even at this point). Not to knock him on that but he should stay in his lane. When it comes to actual knowledge of the NFL, how teams match up and prognosticating where they will finish the season, I think I'd trust my mailman.
Exactly |
Re: Draft wrap-up 2013
Our offense was elite despite pass protection, not because of it. Not that I think anyone here really think TP is a starting RT or that our line was any good at pass protection. (Every stat available says otherwise i.e. TP was rated the worst tackle in football, RG took more hits in the pocket than any QB etc etc).
Per Kiper, I think he's hung up on the fact the NFCE was extraordinarily weak last year. Eagles fell to pieces with injury and lack of focus. All but three starters of the Cowboys defense were injured, and some offensive guys as well. The Gmen had SB hangover. My guess is every analyst expects the division to be a lot tougher this year. ...but the Eagles? Really? |

Re: Draft wrap-up 2013
In the NFC east teams don't repeat as champions. I think the last time a team repeated was when the eagles went to 4 straight NFC championship games which feels like a very long time ago. To be honest how many people outside of the redskins fan base had the skins winning it this year. I wouldn't count anytime out of winning it just based off last years record

This is true of run-blocking. Couldn't be further from the truth of pass-blocking. Pass blocking in the division (last year): Giants Cowboys Redskins Eagles And again, the Eagles were done offensively when Peters season ended, otherwise we'd have been at the bottom for pass-blocking. |
Re: Draft wrap-up 2013
Any prognostication involving a team with a new head coach is based on hope. No one knows at all how that is going to go.

I think your full of it and is most likely why everyone on these forums laugh at you. The offense line is molded to fit our offense, and that offense is one of the best in the league. So your opinion of if they can pass block to you standards really doesn't make sense Edit.. phone typing sucks |
Our pass blocking was way better than Dallas was lol

Well they did get a first round linemen... that had at best a late 2nd round grade. |
Basically they didn't even talk about us lol. Herm said dallas , jaws said NYG and mel said Philly. Lmao so we go 10-6 and it's a fluke I guess. I love redskins haters

Yeah but we get five prime time games (most in the NFL). It's ok, we will be laughing in the end. We are going to be good this year, last year was just the beginning. By the end of next year our team will be on the verge of greatness and heading into 2014 we will be in the NFC Championship game with an opportunity to go to the Superbowl. This team is going to be dominant and maybe sooner rather than later. This draft is going to end up being the base of our secondary for the foreseeable future. I could see a scenario where they can rise to the top of the league. |

You might be right. I went off stat posted after the reg season RG too more hits on the pocket on drop-backs/shotgun than any QB, which technically makes us bottom of the league, but Vick would have had even more than RG had he not been flat out wrecked and missed part of the season. Not really sure what stat the Cowboys are worse in. Muffed snaps probably that guy was hilarious. |

Re: Draft wrap-up 2013
The Amerson pick surprised me, I mean I knew he was on our radar but didn't think we'd actually take him
Expected Reed and Thomas (though I didn't expect Thomas to fall that far) and very pleased with both Couldn't believe Rambo was there in the 6th, I'm not his biggest fan but hard to pass up that late I'm thrilled we added a big time playmaker in Chris Thompson, just hope he can stay healthy Jamison was one of my favorite players in college but I'm not expecting him to do more than spell Morris and help on 3rd downs, which is exactly what we need I'm really glad they didn't waste time drafting OL I wish they had drafted a slot WR |

Or was Amerson always the pick at CB? WR was obviously not the pick at 2nd, because options were plentiful when we picked. |

He could be a pass rush specialist in '13 and become a little more versatile as he goes on. Great value where we got him. Imagine him and Rak coming off of the same edge or Rak & Kerrigan coming off one side and Jenkins the other. The ultimate upside is if we can generate a pass rush with 4-5 rather than sending the house, it allows us to do more on the back end to cover. Our front seven (when healthy) was already in the upper third of the league, if our rookie DBs develop over the next couple of seasons we could be looking at a top 10 offense and defense. Gotta love that. |
I'm most excited about amerson and reed, both will be very productive this season IMO.

I think that their predictions may be based on their perceptions of RGIII's injury status. They may believe that RGIII won't be able to go until later in the season. I also suspect that some of them think that he won't be the same player after his latest knee injuries. Possibly, they think that the Skins will be far more conservative in the way they use RGIII from now on and, because of that, they will be less effective on offense. |
Re: Draft wrap-up 2013
Is anyone going to do a thread on each draftee? We did that last year it was kind of neat especially when we re-visit the threads through out the football year to see how they are developing.

A lot of you have probably heard about this by now in regards to our 3 new DB's. However it's nice to see it in pictures.

And I really appreciate that Trent played through pain. However the fact that it was serious enough to be an issue worth mentioning scares me, a lot in fact. Hopefully he's fully healed going into next year. |
