It doesn't. It has to do with irrationality and motives. |

Re: NFL News Offseason Style
Wow just one year in NFL and already there is a street named after Griffin??

Re: NFL News Offseason Style
I hope Polumbus is getting a little bit better this offseason. He looks like a really neat guy, one that could be a "Redskin for life" type of guy. All he needs is to have a tad faster shuffle and a tad more strength, and he would be a solid starter. Both of those tads are hard to get though.
Even though, I hope he WINS the job over the other two guys. |

You would hope he can improve but he's not going to pancake guys and he's going to have games where he gives up sacks. Tyler Polumbus is serviceable but that's all he is. I'm waiting for the coaches to give Compton the green light. |
Re: NFL News Offseason Style
i wouldn't bet on compton as the way out of polumbus-ville. if he's better than polumbus, he would have already been on the field.

Smootsmack, do you have any information regarding the current consensus is regarding Compton within the Redskins organization? Many here have been hopeful since he was drafted last year that he could develop into our starting RT....but we have heard very little and seen few signs that indicate the team has any confidence in this possibility. |
Re: NFL News Offseason Style
Tell me you're not one of those
Its kinda like Kaepernick and Alex Smith last year. The coach is just waiting for that starter to screw up big time or get injured to give his better backup a chance; that chance never came for Compton because Polumbus was only injured 1 game and his screw ups were erratic. A rookie playing at that spot with an injured RG3 isn't going to make RG3 or shanahan comfortable when you already know what your getting from polumbus. |
Re: NFL News Offseason Style
They like Compton. Mentioned last fall they upped his salary to keep others teams who wanted to put him on their active roster from taking him. He's very much in their plans

Given that other NFL teams wanted him and we made moves to prevent him from leaving. Seems that is some kind of a sign that we, as well as other teams, have at least a little confidence in him. |

Compton is a late round draft pick and a developmental player. He didn't see any game time in his rookie campaign because the coach Forester felt he wasn't ready. But he must have been developing greatly if the Redskins didn't draft a RT in April. Compton might be closer to starting sooner than you think. |

or we had other needs, didn't have money, and we brought in 3 other RTs already. so i'm not sure that's the biggest vote of confidence. look, i'd love for him to be great, but every year people get caught up on weird depth players as this year's pro bowler, and most of the time it doesn't happen. we've been doing this same thing with the RT position since jansen started sucking. the names change but the position hasn't been very good. hopefully he is the next best thing, but the way people talk they just seem to assume any 7th rounder we sign is destine to be amazing. I just prefer to wait and see. |

I agree, I also think they should do a Hard Knocks version of draft war rooms: Follow a team scouting a prospect playing in school, to the senior bowl, to combine, to interviews, to private workouts, to draft day in the war room and everything that goes on in there. I think that would be GREAT TV. They could show that in June/July, Top 100 in April, Draft in May, that gives an NFL fan lots of time to get their NFL dosage in the offseason. |

no one would agree to that, it gives up too much information on a team's process etc. |

well, like Hard Knocks, they edit out play calls and philosophies, so I'm sure they could edit that stuff out and let teams watch episodes before they air so that way the can let teams take out that info that reveals too much. |

They'd have to edit so much of it out that it wouldn't even be worth watching. C'mon man.... |
Re: NFL News Offseason Style
they'd also NEVER give editing control over their show to people they just met. especially since those people don't care about the show's ratings.
i just don't see any way it could work out for both sides and still be compelling. |
Re: NFL News Offseason Style
I dunno, I think there are more similarities than you might think between something like that, and Hard Knocks. TV producers are pretty good at creating shows out of nothing, so even if they don't have a whole lot to go on, they (esp. HBO) can make a pretty cool show even with their hands tied. Plus I think there's a lot of stuff that's compelling, but doesn't necessarily give away anything. For this year, they could follow the guys who dropped out of the first round (Geno Smith esp) - just get their reactions, interview them, get some GM reactions, etc. I bet a lot of teams would be fine with opening up a lot of their interviews - maybe there are two or three questions that they'd rather keep private, but I bet there are a bunch of generic questions that they'd have no problem disclosing.
I dunno, I like the idea. How do we get HBO on this... |

Michael Crabtree could be done for the year with a torn Achilles. He was just starting to look like the star WR he was supposed to look like coming out of college. Good thing they got Boldin.
