Re: Redskins 2014 Salary Cap Status
I think Bowen, Chester, Wilson, Morgan AND Montgomery need to be cut. Is there a reason they haven't been cut as of yet? Is the penalty lessened if we wait until a certain date on any of them? All four of them should net us around 10-11 mil more, right?

Wilson as in Josh? His contract expired, he's not with the team. |
Re: Redskins 2014 Salary Cap Status
Consider this a rough draft, but here's where I think we stand:
Space entering today: $21.1M Andre Roberts: ($2.9M) Santana Moss: ($1.5M) assumed Adam Hayward: ($1.0M) Shawn Lauvao: ($2.8M) assumed Perry Riley: ($3.5M) assumed Five Players Bumped from Top 51: $2.5M Current Estimated Cap Space: $11.9M I made an awful lot of assumptions in coming up with that, mostly based on patterns they seem to be showing with these $4M per year contracts to D Hall, Riley, Lauvao, and Roberts. There could be more space if they backloaded the contracts a bit more than I think. Consider this a conservative estimate. They could have $13M.
Thank you for the update. |

yeah, bowen and monty are dead men walking right now i'd venture.

Re: Redskins 2014 Salary Cap Status
Lavauo is $3 million for 2014, and if I had to venture a guess, Roberts will come in at exactly the same cap figure.
|
Re: Redskins 2014 Salary Cap Status
overthecap has A Roberts at 1.25 base, 1.0 prorated bonus, for a 2.25M cap hit. I like him, I like the price. Hope he pans out.
They have Hayward as an 855K cap hit. Like GTripp said 3.0 for the guard they still don't have Riley's on there yet though, or I missed it. |
Re: Redskins 2014 Salary Cap Status
Updated now that more info is available:
Space entering Free Agency: $21.1M Andre Roberts: ($2.25M) Santana Moss: ($1.5M) assumed Adam Hayward: ($1.0M) Shawn Lauvao: ($3.0M) Perry Riley: ($3.5M) assumed Five Players Bumped from Top 51: $2.5M Current Estimated Cap Space: $12.4M I was indeed fairly conservative on Andre Roberts it appears. They backloaded that more than I anticipated. Estimated current cap space is $12.4M |
Re: Redskins 2014 Salary Cap Status
according to Keim, Riley was a $3 million cap hit. *)&#&# loser's tax, coulda had him for 1.

I just saw that too. Space entering Free Agency: $21.1M Andre Roberts: ($2.25M) Santana Moss: ($1.5M) assumed Adam Hayward: ($1.0M) Shawn Lauvao: ($3.0M) Perry Riley: ($3.0M) Five Players Bumped from Top 51: $2.5M Current Estimated Cap Space: $12.9M |
Re: Redskins 2014 Salary Cap Status
And checking Moss's deal, it was actually a vet minimum situation. Still a favorite Warpathism for me.
Space entering Free Agency: $21.1M Andre Roberts: ($2.25M) Santana Moss: ($0.6M) Adam Hayward: ($1.0M) Shawn Lauvao: ($3.0M) Perry Riley: ($3.0M) Bruce Campbell: ($1.0M) Assumed Six Players Bumped from Top 51: $3.0M Current Estimated Cap Space: $13.3M |
Re: Redskins 2014 Salary Cap Status
Bruce Campbell's deal is pretty close to vet min. Also, the NFL announced the Redskins' starting point entering Free Agency was $18.6M in space, not the $21.1M that most of the internet thought would be the case.
Space entering Free Agency: $18.6M Andre Roberts: ($2.25M) Santana Moss: ($0.6M) Adam Hayward: ($1.0M) Shawn Lauvao: ($3.0M) Perry Riley: ($3.0M) Bruce Campbell: ($0.7M) Six Players Bumped from Top 51: $3.0M Current Estimated Cap Space: $11.1M This should be considered highly accurate at this point, with contract details of the six players all known. The Washington Post is reporting $8M in space; that's because they're forgetting to add back the space for the six players bumped out of the top 51. |
Re: Redskins 2014 Salary Cap Status
Terms of Jason Hatcher Deal per John Keim (ESPN):
Hatcher received a $9-million signing bonus and has $10.5 million guaranteed. There's no guaranteed money after the first year and with his base salary escalating by a considerable amount in the third year, the Redskins could cut him and he would count $4.5 million against the cap (unless they can spread it out over two years at $2.25 million per). It's hard to imagine Hatcher getting to that final season considering his cap hit would be hefty for a player who would be 35 entering the season. But if he's still playing well? Different story. Here's the breakdown, courtesy of ESPN Stats & Information: 2014 Base salary: $1.5 million (fully guaranteed) Cap hit: $3.75 million 2015 Base salary: $3 million Cap hit: $5.25 million 2016 Base salary: $6.5 million Cap hit: $8.75 million 2017 Base salary: $7.5 million Cap hit: $9.75 million |

I don't think Hatcher could play poorly enough in year one to have the Redskins release him before year two. It's too costly. The practical guarantee is $13.5 million. The last season is funny money. It's essentially a 3 year/$20 million contract with the first two years guaranteed at $13.5 million. So an effective AAV of $6.5 to $6.75. It's rare for an older player to get a deal like this. But it's not bad, all it says is the Redskins love them some Jason Hatcher. |

7.85mill left, if anyone is wondering.

How much of that do we need to hold on to for signing any drafted players? |

Way less, esp with no first rounder. |

Don't they typically keep about 5M for signing draft picks/picking up players during the year after injuries/etc. |
Re: Redskins 2014 Salary Cap Status
Need like 1-2 mil for the draft and moves in season.

Teams are still releasing players, we're not done releasing players. Still need a punter too. |

This year it is probably less than 1 million between no first rounder and rule of 51 cap counting. |

That's wrong. Every one of them you sign, you bump somebody else out of the top 51. The net impact of them is minimal, probably $1M or so once you bump players out of the top 51. |
Re: Redskins 2014 Salary Cap Status
I still think Stephen Bowen's days are very numbered.

Do second or third round picks get signing bonuses ? if so, about how much ? |
Re: Redskins 2014 Salary Cap Status
I still think Stephen Bowen's days are very numbered.
I agree, serves no purpose to keep him. Even if he is best buds with hatcher, with our needs we can't afford to keep him. It's business, gotta go Also this talk of merriwether, reed, etc returning to safety is beyond unacceptable. |
Re: Redskins 2014 Salary Cap Status
Do second or third round picks get signing bonuses ? if so, about how much ?
Yes. To give you an idea, last year Amerson was a 2nd rounder. He got $1.2M in up front signing bonus. On a 4 year deal, that amortizes to $300K per year worth of cap hit attributable to the bonus. Then the salaries are not too much different from the minimums for the level of service. 3rd rounders get less, obv. Reed was our 3rd rounder last year, he got a little more than $500K in up front bonus. It's all slotted now based on when you're selected. You can expect numbers very similar to these again this year. |

Re: Redskins 2014 Salary Cap Status
Couldn't we, theoretically, release Polumbus if we sign Penn, and add another 2.0 million to our available cap?
If thats the case, I think a deal with Penn will definitely get done. Cuts I would like to see happen Chester - 2.7 mil added to cap space Bowen - 1.98 mil added Polumbus - 2.5 mil added Golston - 1.01mil added |
