Good for you arctic-dwellers in getting away to sunny beaches. I wish you a hearty party.

Re: The Good News Thread
I'm starting a new job in a few weeks and leaving this current one. I like what I do, (non-profit, working with injured military service members) but the non-profit is HORRIBLY run and run by someone who is terribly vindictive towards families she doesn't like. I don't want to get too specific but... It's bad. Feels like high school sometimes. Plus we butt heads and the pay is downright highway robbery (I get paid below minimum wage) So I'm getting out of that situation.
Going to actually do work in my field of study, working with adults with autism, again in a non-profit setup. I like non-profits, what can I say? |
That sounds very rewarding. I commend you Rave. Congrats on the new gig. The world needs more people like you.

Watching a movie this evening, 5.1 quake hits, fiancée and cats freak out. 12 floor apartment was waving like French flag of surrender. No damage, no biggie. Fiancée wants to leave CA. Sissy.

Something like that, although the previous one was 'meh' by comparison.

Thanks. I think you thanked me once when I got the job working with the military service members. :) I forever want to work in a community where I'm helping others or a struggling or overlooked population. I should've been a social work major. |

Re: The Good News Thread
Appeared before the State's three major elected officials seeking approval of my client's highly contentious project. After approval by 2-1 vote, was told by my client that my presentation was "masterful" and heard through another attorney that one of the deputies to these officials commented that my presentation was "an excellent example of client advocacy".
... and, to top all off, as part of the presentation, and in response to a really, really stupid suggestion from one of the officials, I was able to firmly, professionally and correctly tell an elected official with considerable power that he was wrong, was being stupid and needed to sit down and shut the F up. No one in the room disagreed. Client bought me lunch and beer. It tasted far too sweet. |
Good stuff JR. I dont understand alot of it, but from what I gather you did your job well, than told a d-bag to eff off and had a beer! That is good news indeed.

Re: The Good News Thread
Six months into the new job. Loving it. Sh**-ton of work to do, but it's all good b/c it is interesting, bosses love me & let me know it, and more importantly, let the powers that be know it.
It's amazing how hard you work at being the best when it's actually noticed and appreciated. |
Anything that keeps your post count down on here can't be bad.

Re: The Good News Thread
Big time "Hell yeah!" --- got 2/3's of plaintiff's case kicked out even before we picked the jury. Opposing counsel had to ask for a continuance until tomorrow morning because "the claims [the judge] disposed of were integral to [his] case theory".
He be scrambling now! Blood in the water and the beast is hungry. |

F*** yeah! Two week jury trial. Kicked opposing counsel's ass (magna cum laud from his law school, 15 year trial attorney) - on every major legal point. Whittled his case down to one single issue and got the jury verdict after 12 hours of deliberations. I ripped his heart out and feasted on it as he lay twisting in the wind.
After trial, client (another attorney) said my performance was "stellar". Gave me a bottle of bourbon. Sometimes, even I have to admit, I am damn f'ng good at what I do! |
Re: The Good News Thread
So after some management layoffs in my office and a very stressful time leading up to it, my manager got cut loose along with our office VP and my work life has been a million times easier since. All I have to say is F micro managers and a-hole VP's, and props to home office for doing the right thing once in a while!

Good for you , we just got our third president in six years and everyone is trying to re invent the wheel to prove how great they are and as you said everyone wants to "micro manage", nothing is getting done and it's killing the rest of the employees ,moral not good . |

Our VP that got fired pretty much destroyed every thread of morale in our office the last 5 years. He was just a total dick who gave zero shits about anyone. No idea how he got the job in the first place or how people like that manage to climb the ladder. |
Matty and JR bringin the good news! Happy for both of you. My good news is me and the wife started Advocare - its a weightloss program and today is day one. Not that we are that overweight but in our mid 40's and starting to resemble pears. Anyway I feel great after the morning regiment. Alot of other teachers at her school are showing fantastic results after a couple weeks.
