Me too.
I don't get signing the 30-year-old (in June) Hayward. Hayward is our new Lorenzo.
Thats exactly why we signed him. |
Adam Hayward signing with Skins
Judging from his bio it sounds like a depth move. Anybody think Keenan Robinson gets the chance to start this year? I like this signing for depth and hopefully for the improved special teams performance, if he is the standout we are led to believe. |
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
Mitchell signed with the Steelers. We need a safety.
|
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
Antonio Smith DE to Visit Redskins
|
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
I wonder what our plan for safety is. No reason to ignore this position this off season...

That sucks. There's still some good FA options out there, though. Chris Clemons and Jairus Byrd to name two; and Kendrick Lewis might be an upgrade at the right price. There's also going to be some good safeties available in the 2nd and maybe 3rd round of the draft. |
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
Ryan Clark anyone? Decent safeties left but they'll be gone soon

Too old. But anyone would be an upgrade at this point. Anyone know who's available? |
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
Here we go again Reed Doughty will be a starting safety week 1
|
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
We are four hours into free agency and some of you guys already need a tissue and a tampon.

Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
I'm sure our staff has the players they are targeting and for the price we are comfortable with we will get our players. I do believe this staff is not going to over spend for players unless he can be a difference maker on defense or offense. I'm excited that we have salary cap money again. I will be checking through out the night for late signings . We don't need any more Albert Hanyesworthless players . HTTR

Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
How much cap space do we have left at this point? I read that we had $18MM at he start of the day and it looks like we spent $15MM. So, do we have $3MM left at this point?
It looks like we'll need to make some cuts to do any more deals but I really don't know. |

Rule of 51 kicked in today, so the Hayward signing probably only counts at most $500k. (figure 750k salary, +100K bonus, - Rule of 51 drop around 500k) So the main contracts are Riley, Roberts, and the guard. I am guessing we have about 10million, and could have another 2-3 more if we let Chester go. Obviously, I could be wayyyy nff. Love to here from Schneed or CC edit: Thanks Schneed I didn't see yours before I posted this one. |
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
In the cap thread Schneed mentioned cutting Monty, Chester, or Kory L.
Licht is by far our smallest lineman. Without him, everyone else is 300+ pounds. If the goal is to get bigger, it would seem that Kory L. is a dead man walking. |

So does NO have magic cap potion or something?
|
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
They will be cutting someone tomorrow, Overthecap had them with 1.9 mill today, the length of the deal lets them give a major signing bonus, and spread it out. But you still think the hit will be at least 4-5 million. Wasn't Sproles release going to free up about 4 million? That or the trade has gotta happen I imagine.
|
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
And I'll just throw it out there. Revis at the right price and the right kind of contract would be pretty sweet.

It looks like those big name and big pay days are gone with this team. I am fine with that, just need to make sure we have some good drafts and develop our players in the upcoming drafts. |

Gotta be some thing like 55 mil with 24 guaranteed. That makes it roughly worth 6-7 mil this year. Just a guess and the structure could totally be different but still. |

I'm not talking about a big pay day. I'm talking a "you've worn out your welcome in two spots in three years and now it's time to rebuild you rep" discounted contract. |
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
Antonio Smith would be a key addition, he would give the Skins pressure from the front 3
Also paying $5+ million a year for an old, or mediocre safety is foolish ( Mitchell, Clemons, or Bethea) ....... get another CB and try DHall at FS, and draft a FS |

I guess so, but i think he will still want a deal comparable to the deals given today. If he is released it may help us get Talib at a cheaper price since the Pats have interest in Revis. |

Pretty good sir: Josina Anderson @JosinaAnderson 1m Here are the numbers: Source: S Jairus Byrd gets a 6-year deal with the Saints at a max value of $54M, Guaranteed figure is just over $27M. |

I wouldn't mind bringing Smith in a low budget, 1-2 year deal, but he's gonna be looking for "I need one last payday before I retire" money. |
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
For the remainder of the FA period I would like to see Graham, Smith, and some decent safety signed. And Sproles if he's released. Then, I will be satisfied.

That's the kind of idea I'm on board with. I don't think there's any young talent left in FA worth giving big money too, I wouldn't mind giving a short term deal to someone like Revis with a lot left to prove. Worst case, he doesn't fill a need, best case, think Randy Moss with the Pats type resurgence. |
Re: Redskins Free Agents Signings Thread
so are we going to cut a lineman Chris Chester, Kory, or Montgomery. Or keep them all and cut one after training camp

Every year since 2007 (RIP) I keep thinking to myself, okay this will be the year Reed Doughty rides the bench/plays special teams, and yet every year he's always starting, whether at FS or SS. I like the guy off the field, he's a good guy, hard worker, etc, as a backup you know what you're getting, but in reality there's no way he should be starting. If he is penciled in as the starter for lack of a better option I will starting reaching drave-Josh Wilson levels of insanity. |

i agree he is ok as a back-up and ST player, i doubt if he comes back if he is the starter just wanted to stir the pot in here. They will probably add some other guys to the secondary this FA period, but this D for the most part with be built with the same pieces as last year. i just hope that it really was the scheme otherwise this board will explode over Haz again this upcoming season. |
