Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy
Yeah, but most of the FS in this draft FS.
Other than the WR pick, I think BA and JG have done a very good job this year. |

Murphy - Reach, he fuckin sucks. Moses - Has Reach, but he too fuckin sucks. Some guard - he fuckin sucks. some cb - he fuckin sucks too. Ryan Grant, WR, Tulane University - love the pick. Overall grade thus far - F for "fuckin sucks"
Hey, bro, I think you're in the wrong place. They're not exactly identical as far as how you would line them up, but I thought Michael Sam was a little bit better of a player than Trent Murphy was. Sam (and Jackson Jeffcoat, who is in that same class of defensive edge player) is (are) still available in the seventh round.

Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy
I like the fact that the skins stayed true to their big board and didnt use kiper's all hype list.
trades like this make looking back on the draft 3 years later a lot more interesting. imo it will be very easy to determine success = is spencer + long > lawrence or bitonio or van noy? im glad we addressed positions of need and i will wait and see what these guys do. |

Does that mean you think the Redskins overreached on Murphy or that teams were shying away from Sam? |

Michael Sam, almost all of whose sacks came from 3 games, is better than Trent Murphy. SMH. GTripp, the more you post around here the more irrelevant your opinions become. |

Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy
Does that mean you think the Redskins overreached on Murphy or that teams were shying away from Sam?
I'm not convinced the Redskins reached on Murphy, because I don't know if other teams were looking to pick him in that range. There's a pretty good chance they were.
Murphy was a top 100 player for me, so taking him on the second day isn't a terrible overdraft, given that 100-ish players go on the first two days. It wasn't just Sam that teams were shying away from. A lot of 'Tweener types got pushed down the board. I don't know if Murphy was able to avoid the 'Tweener label, but he didn't get pushed down the board for whatever reason. Some very similar players (including ones in my top 100) who got the label got pushed all the way down to the end of the third day. |

Why are some people disappointed on Murphy when all he does is make plays.

Trent Murphy Highlights ᴴᴰ "Here Comes the Boom" - YouTube
all some people do is look at the 40 time, most people do not know Murphy had virtually the same time as Mack and Barr in the 10 yard dash and Murphy was quicker than Barr and Mack in the 3 cone drill. I am not saying he is better than Mack, and Barr, just that he is a decent athlete who as you said has a history of being productive. Work-out warriors get you fired.... 2013 15 sacks....... 23.5 TFL.........6 PD Washington Redskins Draft Pick, Trent Murphy, OLB - Hogs Haven |

Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy
Murphy is a football player. By that I mean he knows how to play the game. He was an exceptionally productive college player.
What about all of those pass deflections and interceptions? Those are big plays. He also has long arms and the largest hands of anyone who attended the combine. You can see how that helps him in his highlight reel. Once he gets his hands on a ball carrier or QB, that man is going down. I read that he could use some more upper body development. The strength coaches will make sure he gets bigger and much stronger. Once he accomplishes that and gets some NFL experience, he could be a beast. The only reason that I wasn't so happy when the Redskins picked him is that I wanted them to take Morgan Moses in that spot. Once they lucked out and got Moses in the third round, I was fine with the overall result because I would have had no problem with their taking Trent in the third round. |

Murph is a worker, an attitude player. He could have an impact on the rest of his teammates in helping create an identity and culture that this will be a rough, physical, tough front seven. |
Sounds like his father did a great job of instilling a sense of heroic effort in him. Looking forward to seeing his first sack (of many).

Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy
Murphy is the kind of player that will make other players work harder. He will stay late working on his craft other players vets included will see this and stay too. Reed was that player last year, staying late working with the jug machine and on his route running.

He's the type of 'glue' player we haven't had in a while. A guy who is just mean and nasty but smart as well. He's going to allow the defense to be creative. Imagine a nickel pass rush with Rak, Hatcher, Kerrigan, Murphy. That's the goal, rush with 4 - cover with 7. Seems pretty clear the offseason strategy to fix the pass defense was to focus our resources on getting to the QB. Franchise Rak, sign Hatcher, draft the 2013 NCAA sack leader. That's one reason why draft grades are so dumb. They don't account for offseason strategy and planned fits. |

2 positions I'm kinda glad we didn't draft at ILB and Safety. First, those 2 positions weren't deep in the draft. With tjax and Robinson coming back from injury, we shouldn't be bad from a depth perspective. The only area going into the offseason/ camp where I'm nervous is TE. Not a whole lot there. I wonder if Bruce and jay are satisfied with that part of the roster. Gotta feeling we will be watching cuts and waiver wire a lot in the coming months. |

Good interview. I like when he talks about Coach Harbaugh and vets getting complacent, IMO that's RAK saying I don't need to learn another pass rush move I'm OK. |
Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy
Robinson if he can stay healthy.
So who will start at ILB for the 3rd preseason game once Robinson is done for the year? I truly hope Robinson stays healthy, but we have no depth at ILB. I feel comfortable with Riley and that Riley can make the calls. I think we're in for a world of hurt if either of those two guys get hurt. I don't hate Murphy. Seems like a good player with a good motor. Just not sure I saw the position itself as something we should be focusing on. With Orakpo and Kerrigan starting and Rob Jackson and Brandon Jenkins as backups, I'm fairly happy with our talent at OLB. To me, this screams that Orakpo is done in DC. My guess is the coaching staff see the special teamers we picked up as backups, and potentially future starters at the ILB role. As someone else said. When we passed on Moses I was concerned. When he fell, I was far less concerned. Had we swapped those two picks I would have had less of a gripe, but still feel we could have probably made a better choice. Note: Please don't read my sig because it contradicts my above point... |

Jackson is a back-up, and Jenkins is a project at best. Murphy can save the Redskins over $10 million dollars next season |

I think the depth is there at ILB for at the very worst, a platoon type approach if needed. Sharpton, Jordan, Compton, Hayward, etc. |
Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy
People are getting a little ahead of themselves with assuming Rak is gone. What if he has a monster season? Think they'll just let him walk if he puts up big numbers?
I know the front office was split on re-signing him, but I'm sure those that were against it could be swayed if he goes out there and knocks it out of the park. |
Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy
Nothing wrong with have a guy in the wings if Orakpo does take his talents and leaves, but I don't see Murphy as a guarantee Orakpo is gone. It simply, and hopefully, makes it where the Skins aren't over a barrel, and can walk away if the two sides can't agree.
Nothing wrong with 3-4 solid OLB's especially when two are on rookie deals. |

Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy
It would be a real.....boon for this team to have some fresh legs in the pass rush without a huge letoff in talent.

Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy
im excited to see what a fully healthy rak can do. no matter the scenario, i think we benefit.
if rak plays like a beast and walks = we got a beast year out of him if rak plays decent = we can resign him for FMV if we want or let him walk if we want |
Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy
That is an utterly ridiculous statement.
not really, if Orakpo has a good season he will want $75+ million for 5 years... if not he will still expect $10 million per year. They have more important places to spend their money. |
Re: Pick 47 Trent Murphy
I would like to say that it's not a foregone conclusion he is gone. I may have stated that too strong. They are, however, laying the groundwork to allow for that. I think Matty is correct that it gives them leverage or in the worst case scenario an option if he leaves.
However, we have some guys coming up that will require big money. Alf Mo, RG3, and Jordan Reed will all likely require fairly hefty contracts. Not to mention Kerrigan on the defensive side. |
