Re: Prediction time! the Pre PreSeason Prediction thread
It is expected that a renovated team struggle with NE in August scrimmages.
The odd thing that stood out for me was Gruden's report that the defense seemed easily winded. The defense hasn't built stamina in 2 weeks of camp?
I dont think this team is as renovated as people want to think. The D coordinator is the same and the players are mostly the same. The HC has changed but he said they are going to run the same offense with a few tweaks. That's not quite what I'd call a renovated team. Hopefully these tweaks will produce renovated results. |
Re: Prediction time! the Pre PreSeason Prediction thread
Brady has been in the same system and with the same HC his entire career. I'm shocked he can run things so smoothly.
That's the difference between Redskins football and winning football. The Skins are constantly chasing the flavor du jour whether its in coaches or players so there's never a chance for a system to take hold and achieve success. Hopefully Gruden is a flavor that the Skins brass like for awhile. |

Running game would be the same except some power plays inside...passing game will be different, especially with all the twin TE sets. Hence the issues yesterday with it...peeps are still learning |
I also heard the Skins ripped off a couple of good plays. It sounds like NE pretty much ripped off big plays for the entire practice. I really think that the end of the article sums up why the Skins are bottom dwellers and teams like NE have year in year out success.

Now, we have a healthy RGIII back. I think you ought to believe that RGIII's rookie season was not a flash in the pan because you saw it. You know what he can do. Last season was the aberration. Here is a question for everyone: How many wins is having a healthy RGIII worth to the Redskins? It's got to be worth something. Using last season as the benchmark, we certainly should win more than 3 games with our starting QB healthy. So what's he worth? I think he could worth be as many as five games (from 3 to 5). I'll rein myself in a bit and say 3 games. Now, if you compare the other personnel on this team to last season's personnel, we have to be better overall. We added two excellent WR's who are perfect complements to PG. We signed Hatcher who is the inside pass rusher we've needed. We bolstered the OL a bit. We have our rising star TE back. Hopefully, everyone else will have improved to some degree. That should translate into more wins, as well. We know that our ST's will be better because it's practically impossible that they could be any worse than they were last season. That could help us to win more games, as well. Starting with 3 wins (the same as last season), I would add 3 wins for a healthy RGIII, and another 3 wins for overall improvement. That's 9 wins. |
Also heard our pass rush was better than theirs. With the kind of guys they have up front, that speaks good things for both our pass rush and our O-line. Athough on one hand, it's too early to be making judgments about any aspect of our team. But then on the other hand, it's better that we heard "Lichtensteiger made Wilfork his b*tch" instead of "Redskins O-line hapless versus Pats".
I heard Brady would have been sacked or pressured on more than a few instances if it were a game situation. |

I'm not a pessimist, I'm a realist. The Skins will be a better team this year but all the years of losing have taken their toll and even an improved Skins team just isnt in the top tier of of NFL teams. When its all said and done this year the Skins will be somewhere between 20th-25th out of 32 teams. |

I think 6 is realistic but definitely not more than 8. |

When its all said and done this year the Skins will be somewhere between 20th-25th out of 32 teams.
Mainly, as has been said ad nauseaum, last year was it's own creation, built on specifically shallow grounds, of MS and Griffin distrust, and team implosion. Using last year as any reference is simply folly, as would be using 2012 in a vacuum. Assuming a healthy Griffin, and talented offensive weapons, all proven except Reed, the offense should be able to be a top 10 offense. The question is absolutely on D and ST. Using the fact that a Brady led offense was able to shred what probably will be a 17-22 ranked Defense, in an non-gameplanned scrimmage, just seems overly pessimistic to me. |
Re: Prediction time! the Pre PreSeason Prediction thread
When are we going to move on from last year? To me it seems everyone has blamed Shanahan for the 3 wins so he's gone. It's a new season. It's obvious we're not close to the Patriots. They're a better operation from top to bottom. Is this something we don't already know?

Re: Prediction time! the Pre PreSeason Prediction thread
I was watching NFL Network last night and Mike Mayock was really talking very highly of Ryan Mallet. Remember when he came out of the draft? He was a total mess.

Re: Prediction time! the Pre PreSeason Prediction thread
I've got 9-7. But that includes losing both games to the Giants.
We should slap Philly twice, and split with Dallas. Hate when we start the season against a non-division team. LOSS at Houston WIN vs Jacksonville WIN at Philadelphia LOSS vs New York Giants LOSS vs Seattle WIN at Arizona WIN vs Tennessee LOSS at Dallas WIN at Minnesota WIN vs Tampa Bay LOSS at San Francisco LOSS at Indianapolis WIN vs St. Louis LOSS at New York Giants WIN vs Philadelphia WIN vs Dallas I don't know anything about Gruden, but it appears that those who have an informed opinion are pretty high on him. |
as the only dude who got it right last year, maybe gtripp did too,
i say 5-8 wins. D - secondary could be a huge disaster that no amount of offense can overcome, MLB is unproven and I dont know who will replace fletch in calling audibles, line shifts, assignments etc.. O - should be better than D for sure but i think offense takes a big step back with the loss of the shannys. the run game isnt as explosive = receivers arent as open for RG3 which may compound RG3s below average reading of D, anticipation, moving safeties with his eyes/body etc .. who knows, maybe RG3 lights it up, the O line plays better, AlfMo doesnt take a step back w the loss of the shanny running scheme, we dont suffer an injury to the paper thin secondary and the secondary plays above expected, the D line creates turnovers and rushes and the MLBs step up with their new responsibilities ...
this team always seems to make pre-season pessimism turn into post-season realism. |
Re: Prediction time! the Pre PreSeason Prediction thread
I decided to take a super scientific approach to breaking down wins and losses... a coin flip. Heads = win, tails = loss. So here we go:
9/7 at Houston LOSS 9/14 Jacksonville LOSS 9/21 at Philadelphia LOSS 9/25 NY Giants LOSS 10/6 Seattle WIN 10/12 at Arizona WIN 10/19 Tennessee LOSS 10/27 at Dallas WIN 11/2 at Minnesota LOSS 11/9 Bye 11/16 Tampa Bay LOSS 11/23 at San Francisco WIN 11/30 at Indianapolis LOSS 12/7 St. Louis WIN 12/14 at NY Giants LOSS 12/20 Philadelphia LOSS 12/28 Dallas LOSS So there you go, the coin has spoken and the coin doesn't like our chances this year.
That coin was pretty damn close. |

After I heard we lost to Houston week 1 I knew we were gonna suck but I didn't think that bad....

I know we are all homers here, but for the most part we are realistic homers. Despite all that none of us thought we'd be this bad, thus no one voted correctly on this haha.

You were pretty spot on with the prediction.
I happen to agree with Sammy's predictions pretty much to a T. Well done good sir. I do think if things go extremely right though, it could turn out 9-7.
Well, I predicted a 7-9 record (mirroring Sammy's prediction), but I didn't expect us to be this bad. At least I was realistic about this team for the most part. It's fun to look back at these types of things and see who was being realistic and who were drinking the kool-aid. :) |

Fascinating. What exactly did you expect? What did you see from this management, coaches and roster that lead you to believe it wasn't going to be "effing bad season?" My belief is that you and along with many Redskins fans suffer from Dunning–Kruger effect. |
