And you can judge this by 4 starts? He's hit his ceiling already?? Ok.
I know. Hilarious. Cousins will NEVER get any better, because he played poorly in 3 meaningless games at the end of a 3-13 season. Oh, and he's in his 3rd year and everyone knows NFL QBs peak in year 2. Everyone had checked out for those last 3 games and who were his weapons besides Pierre Garcon? To think he can't be any better with another off-season under his belt and a full compliment of weapons is insane. Not saying he's Joe Montana incarnate, but I definitely think he's capable of moving the ball against first team Defenses. Maybe he'll still be turnover prone, but who knows. He's hardly the first young QB to struggle with turnovers early in his career. Fix the turnovers, and Cousins looks like he could be a pretty good QB. RG3 no longer looks like he'll be "elite" one day. He looks like a guy struggling with the basics. |

I don't understand why there's such a strong need to say QB A is awesome, so QB B must suck. No, no, no. We have two good young QBs, yet for some dumb reason we as fans refuse to accept that.

Re: Why I'm Not Gonna Panic About Our QB
Im 100% behind RG3, but my thread wasnt to bash Cousins. I still view him as a top 5 backup in the league. Thats very valuable in today's NFL and thats why Im serious if the Rams would make an offer I would hold firm at a multiple pick deal which included at least a 2nd round pick next year and another 3rd or 2nd the following year. I dont think thats unreasonable.

Considering RGIII wasn't running the read option a lot last year, you can judge him all of last year on his pocket presence and reading defenses. Not sure why you guys keep saying 20 snaps in pre-season. |

I'm willing to admit Cousins does some things well, like getting the ball out quickly. However, I think labeling his as 'good' is a bit of a stretch. He's had two above average statistical games and two terrible games. And even his above average games had multiple interceptions. If his current level of play can be considered good, then we'd have to classify Geno Smith, Brian Hoyer, and Terrelle Pryor as good, too. Edit: Also, I'm certainly not claiming that Griffin is playing at an awesome level at this point, but I'm willing to let him go through some growing pains while he learns a new offense. |

I give RG3 a pass on last year. But not this year. He's had a full off season now to work things out. Time to perform Sept 7th. |

Re: Why I'm Not Gonna Panic About Our QB
I'm not in panic mode, but I am concerned with what I'm seeing. I understand the rust, and a new system. However, rust shouldn't cause a pro QB to miss wide open receivers when he isn't under distress. A new system also shouldn't cause him to run OB behind the line, takes hits that could be avoided, and a few other things. I'm an RGIII guy, but he either needs to smarten up, or sharpen up. Kirk is waiting....

True, they are both young and good. What I am trying to figure out now is why the Skins drafted a non-pocket passer in RG3, had a ton of success in running the read option in 2012 and now suddenly are trying to convert him to a pocket passer. |
Re: Why I'm Not Gonna Panic About Our QB
What the F was wrong with our RO offense in 2012? 1st place in the NFCE, a home playoff berth, and Rookie of the Year wasn't good enough, after years of suckitude?

They are not so much converting him as they are helping him to develop better skills as a pocket passer. Wait until the opener. Then we'll know more about how Gruden plans to use RGIII. The Skins aren't showing much of their offense in preseason. |

People called it a gimmick. They said it would kill our qb. They're the same people whining now Also Team Griffin was against it and he calls the shots now. |

Re: Why I'm Not Gonna Panic About Our QB
On May 22, Griffin Jr., the man who molded his son in the image of his own quarterback idols of the 1970s, told The Washington Post: “I just know that based on what I know Robert can do, he doesn’t have to be a runner as much as I saw last year. To me, you’re paying these [receivers] a lot of money to catch the football. I’m his dad — I want him throwing that football, a lot. A lot.”
“I love my dad,” he said. “I talked to him after I heard what he said and I told him thank you because that’s what he is supposed to say as my father. He does not want to see me running around out there on the field. He wants to see me throwing the ball. He was the one that trained me, so he knows what I can do and Coach knows what I can do. It is not that I disagree or agree with what he said, but I was proud of the fact that he stood up and said something.” Any sense that Griffin’s father was operating as a lone wolf — his rantings wholly disconnected from his son’s own opinions — disappeared this week, when Griffin III told ESPN 980 in response to a question about the read-option offense, “I’m a quarterback. . . . We want to throw the ball. And you think pass first, run second. That’s just the way it is.” The Griffin men, it should be clear by now, are not to be muzzled, unless it is by their own free will. I love RG3 but he needs to be open to coaching more than he is. whether it was team griffin or his injury that changed the offensive approach in 2013, the world will never know. ce la vie imo. |

We have no idea what kind of offense Gruden will be running in the regular season. It's possible we will use the read option, but in the preseason the offense is totally vanilla. I'm hoping there will be more roll outs. |

That's the point. And I have no problem with rust or growing pains, but Griffin's mistakes are mind-boggling and inexcusable even for a High School level QB - jumping in the air on passes, running out of bounds behind the line of scrimmage, inability to slide, missing wide open receivers right in front of his face. I don't see how any of those issues have to do with learning a new system. But maybe it was just a really bad day for him and everything will be all better by September 7th. Let's all hope. |

When Griffin isn't a threat to run, people load up to run and dare to pass. We get into 3 and 7 and he doesn't have the ability to bail us out of that.
That's what this is all about. He's working on it. I don't know if he'll get there, but we will see. |

A bit. I'm just a bit pissed that the team did a poor job with the offensive line in the offseason. While people have focused a lot on RG3 during the preseason, I think the horrible play by Polumbus and Chester as a possible reason that this team will do badly this season. I just can't believe that the team couldn't find better players than these two or that they saw the tape from last year and thought that they'd be okay with them. But no one is talking or will talk about this. I think this team is cursed with always having a bad offensive line. |

Chester and Polumbus were awful v the Ravens. Hard to believe we cannot upgrade at one of those spots.

I agree with you - up to a point. I also believe that RGIII has what it takes to succeed in the NFL. Plus, he has the desire to be a great QB. So, I think Gruden should stick with RGIII as long as possible. There is only one thing that would make it difficult for Gruden to stick with him. That one thing is losing. The number one statistic to use in evaluating any QB is wins and losses. If we win with RGIII, then he is the QB. If we don't win with him, then Gruden may be forced to make a change. |
