Re: Skins-Jags Positives and Negatives
My two cents: the last time RGIII was healthy, he was an elite QB and one of the best we've ever had. Then there was last year, when he was no where near healthy, the head coach and O-Coordinator seemed as concerned with undermining RG as they were with winning. And the defense couldn't stop a pop warner team. I'm confused that there are so many people willing to discard him in the hopes that the backup is the next Montana. There's one thing every annoying fan of every team believes: the backup QB has Hall of Fame talent. So that said, as far as the positives and negatives of this week, I only have one thing:
Negative: RGIII getting injured.
Really isn't about Griffin anymore. You can't build a team around a glass slipper. At this point Cousins is the only answer. Griffen was a flash in the pan; sucks but that seems to be his identity. |
Re: Skins-Jags Positives and Negatives
I agree 100% Coff.
Biggest thing today was losing RG III. Yeah Rambo blew a play but other than that we pretty much rocked all day. All I want is for RG III and the Redskins to be successful. I hope he gets an opportunity to do that next year... |

It certainly seems that way. Getting pressure from our d-lineman is something we're not really accustomed to. I don't remember any sacks last year when we didn't send some kind of blitz. Today the pressure was constant. Of course, the Jags suck, so our optimism should be probably be tempered. |

Steve Marriucci, a respected football mind and excellent evaluator of Qb's was raving about Cousin's on the NFL Network post game. In fact the entire 4 man crew agreed that Cousin's was playing better then RGIII. Several Patriot players and coaches said Cousins is the better QB at this time when both teams met for practices then the preseason game. Cousins is no daisy. |

I guess you are not a Cousins believer? I think Kirk is our future if he keeps playing like today and RGIII is done for the year. |
Re: Skins-Jags Positives and Negatives
I really don't care who the QB is if we're winning. I think there's a good chance Cousins can lead the way. We've got weapons and the D has looked solid.

Cousins is going to have his ups and downs no doubt. I want to see him succeed, but I'm holding on to see how he does against a team that gameplans against him. I really hope he continues to play as well as he played today. Honestly, I would have felt in a somewhat similar way had RG3 had played well today since the Jags were so beat up in terms of injuries. |

We will see. I hope Djax and Jordan come back soon. We don't play Jax every week. |

He has been great, but the D-Line in general. Baker looked outstanding today. I wanna see how they hold up versus a top offensive line next week versus the Eagles. But, Hatcher, Kerrigan, and Robinson have been crucial throughout 2 games. Amerson has well, I wish he would have had that pick today. |
Re: Skins-Jags Positives and Negatives
If the Ravens could win a SB with Trent Dilfer and great D, so can the Redskins with Cousins.
|
Re: Skins-Jags Positives and Negatives
People quitting already on Kirk huh. New system, new coach, better weapons, and just dominated a team on the field today to the tune of 40+. I don't get why some people call themselves fan.
Have a little damn faith |
Re: Skins-Jags Positives and Negatives
It's interesting watching the back and forth over Cousins and Griffin.
It's devolved to insulting the one you don't like in an effort to defend the one you do like. I don't get the level of attachment to the individual players. |

I don't care who our QB is or his pedigree. Just win...
This x1000. I want the best QB. Counting the preseason and the last 2 weeks, Captain Kirk is our best option. |
Re: Skins-Jags Positives and Negatives
Whole team gave up last year. That said lets see what Gruden and Cousins put together and how long RGIII will be out before we try to figure out the best way to stir the qb controversy pot.
I hope Cousins pulls a Kaepernik and earns the starting job by his play. But I expect multiple pick games going forward(of course in the NFC East that may be a qb requirement this year) |

I think the skins D is improved... That is an extreme exaggeration to compare this D to the 2001 Ravens. |

Seattle won a SB with an elite defense and a great running game last year. We can probably win with a great running game and good defense; and a competent QB. Hopefully Cousins can be more than just a competent QB. |

I wore my Griffin jersey to work the day of one of the preseason games and someone in the elevator looked at me and goes: "I hate to say it, but I think Cousins is better" And I looked at him and I said "I don't care who they put out there, I want a team that wins football games" When everyone in the stadium figured out Griffin was hurt (it took a minute...) it sucked all the energy out of the stadium. When Cousins threw that pass to DY - it was back. Sucks for Griffin. I think he has the potential to be an elite quarterback. But he's not going to be the field for a while, if at all the rest of the season. If you must tear one of them down in an effort to defend the other, save it for the offseason when it matters. Even Griffin gets it. Why can't the fans? |

If Cousins plays well and get us a winning record/playoffs appearance, no doubt we have to keep him. |

I don't expect anything out of him, AFAIC he's unproven. And now that the qb debate will be raging for the rest of the season, let me start by asking are we prepared to move on from RG3 if KC looks good/great for the rest of the year? No doubt if we are winning games it will be a lot easier for people to move on from RG3. But what if he plays average? Do you bring RG3 back as the starter next year? Only situation where I see RG3 coming back as the starter next year is if KC plays himself out of starting consideration this year. |

If this guy can stay healthy for a while, I think he could be a starter and a decent one. Silas Redd was standing right next to Alfred Morris on the sideline today after Morris' TD, twins. They are built exactly the same. Redd runs with the same type of strength and determination as well. I hope he continues to develop. Redd needs to see some more carries. |

I know it was just the jaguars, but Meriweather is a scum bag and always a hit away from being suspended again. Why do we continue to pay this guy and give him the starting reps? Let someone else get better and become an actual option for us at safety... Rambo sucks. I called that shit last preseason. He's just too dumb to play at this level. |

Re: Skins-Jags Positives and Negatives
Separate question, anyone surprised that the Jags didn't put in Bortles? If they knew our history against backups they would have found any excuse to put him in!

Even the commentators during the game said that it made no sense to put Bortles. |
Re: Skins-Jags Positives and Negatives
I have been firmly in the RG3 camp since the 2 were drafted, because he's talented and showed us so his rookie year, he seems like a good leader, we gave up a lot for him, and well he was our starting QB.
From day 1 though, with RG3, I held my breath on every play. And to be honest with myself, I have never seen a high profile player on this team EVER that was as fragile. Maybe it is psychological because Cousins came at less of a price, but today I felt confident. I wasn't bracing for the hit every play. HE didn't seem to be either. He stood tall and confident, he made his reads, and delivered the ball quickly, accurately, and on time. I think we all knew that he was the better pocket passer at this point, and surprise surprise it was Griffin going back to his run-first style that led to his injury (freak and flukey as it may have been) rather than sticking to their guns and developing him as a pocket passer. Griffins young, and he has talent, so I don't want to count him out yet, but if Cousins keeps putting up the numbers he did today, I'm ready move on. Not that I have to be in the camp of 1 player or another, but we all know there is no room for 2 starting QBs on any team, and I just want to win. I felt sick for Robert (I like him, he has good character), but then I finally exhaled and enjoyed good football without high blood pressure for the first time since these two were drafted, and I could totally get used to that. |

Today he reverted to his reckless style of play and got hurt. |

I don't know if I called that super reckless...he landed on his foot in an odd way. If he lands okay, he probably doesn't get injured. But oh well. |
