That's what I thought, too. He was faster and more in synch than in the past. Just when Griff got it in gear, then...boom.

You're not the only one. He looked like 2012 RG3 and was doing a good job at protecting himself during his runs. I thought he did a good job at passing as well, including that long pass to DJax.

I saw him playing just fine, but this "could have been" thinking is now running deep into year 2. Last year could have been a different story if RG3 wasnt hurt, as he is now again.

I dont care who is at QB as long as we are winning.
Hard to tell about arm strength (Djax had to wait for that bomb to get to him) but if he does have an advantage in arm strength its not enough to really matter.
The bomb that DJax waited for traveled 60 yards in the air. The issue there was timing, not arm strength.

Re: Griffin Out For Undetermined Time, It's Cousins Time

And in the end it should have been completed so who cares if it's a perfect pass or not. It was still a heck of a throw when you're talking about arm strength. Not only is it 60 yards downfield but he puts a heck of an arc on it.

Re: Griffin Out For Undetermined Time, It's Cousins Time

I nod my head in agreement when folks are saying "Cousins had a great game and was a leader on the field Sunday against the Jags. Lets see how he plays against a team who will game plan for specifically him."

The real improvement with Cousins will he be less careless with his throws into tight coverage. Can he make the long throws down along the sidelines.

Cousins I think gets baited into throws sometimes, he must recognize tight coverage.

For my part, yeah, the first few plays he looked good, but they were using the plays he's comfortable with. I still haven't seen much progression in working out of the pocket, but the real reason I'm losing faith is his durability. Maybe it's just bad luck that he's been injured this much, and I hope so, but I'm not confident.

Saw something interesting on Twitter this morning. Sproles had a dislocated ankle as a rookie. So for those thinking that Griffin is headed for a wheelchair, not so fast.

lol

Would RG3 just go ahead and amputate both legs for those Pistorius bionic limbs? He would be unstoppable.

I get it though, you guys are still enamored and hopefule RG3 can be this teams champion.
I think it is a bit personal with you. How could you be happy, as a true Redskin fan, with RG3 lying there with another serious injury? After all he's been through? He's made mistakes with all the marketing BS IMO, and some shots at the Shanahan's, but you can not deny his work ethic and his desire to be the best, so I respect that. KC can play and he's obviously ahead of RG3 in some areas, but let's not quite write off RG3 yet. He has done a lot of good things around here, just so you know.

Apparently Vegas seems to have faith in Cousins; the line is even for the game in Philly. I would imagine it's going to change in the next few days, but the fact that it opened even is very interesting.

Re: Griffin Out For Undetermined Time, It's Cousins Time

RGIII is not proficient at looking off safeties, pickup the blitz and getting rid of the ball quickly even if it is an incompletion.
Some of the sacks he took against the Texans were awful and frustrating.
Perfect example: In the texans game on the play RGIII got called for intentional grounding. The Texans tipped their hand that they were blitzing as one saftey (Sweanger)and two LB's were on the line of scrimmage before the snap (never understood why defenses tipping a blitz).
Yet RGIII held onto the ball and tried running away from the bltiz instead of just getting rid of the ball quickly. This play typified the frustration I had with the 2013-2014 RGIII. He just thinks he is so fast he can out run the blitz.
KCousins in the Jags game was not tipped off the blitz was coming but had a LB or safety in his face right after the snap and he threw it to the feet of one his receivers.
That is the type smart of play I want to see a healthy RGIII make. That would show me he has learned something rather than depend on his athletic ability.

Wow, that's giving the Redskins way too respect. But remember, Philly played a tough road game last night so they have a short week.

These are areas where we all know RG3 struggles. But it's not like he can't learn all this stuff as time goes on, just like KC I think will cut down on his turnovers. The question is if KC comes in and plays well, will the organization want to wait for RG3?

Nope, you weren't. Looked to me that he was about to have one of his great games. A game that started with so much promise for him to build on turned into a heartbreaking day for him.

We really don't need Kirk to get that much better... We need him to be more consistent and not turn the ball over... All we need him to do is play like he played last Sunday, and we will win football games... To bank on RGIII being healthy enough to reach is potential is foolish at best... And to trade Cousins? Simply absurd...

We could very well be a poor man's Seattle for the rest of the season: a top 5 running game, a top 10 defense, and not ask our QB to do much.

I really don't know how we can speculate on how much better or not he needs to be, when we really dint know yet how good he is.

I'm not giving up on him either, I'm just trying to be realistic... There is a decent possibility RGIII will never be the QB we drafted him to be, through no fault of his own... To me it looks like the FO will have a decision to make after this year between Cousins and RGIII... I can't fathom how they can keep them both... But who knows, maybe they can and this thing will ride out another year...

Which great Qb had two season ending injuries in his first 2 & 2/16th seasons? Just curious who that might be. I am not trying being a smart ass.

I remember when Loins fans got up in arms when Stafford got repeatedly hurt early in his career. Megatron, for one, is happy that the Loins did not give up on Stafford.

Brees had major shoulder issues early in his career. I believe the perceived injury risk was the reason why Miami chose Culpepper back when Brees was a FA.

You can see by how they called the game and by the comments of Gruden, they're not going to sit back and ask KC to not do much. If anything, the game plan will be more aggressive.

I don't think anybody is saying it can't be done, it just doesn't happen very often... I'm not ready to pull the plug on III by anymeans... All I'm saying, and I think most of the board is, that if Cousins plays well this season and wins some games, I don't see how we can trade him/let him walk and put all our eggs in the RGIII basket... To me, that would be ignoring the reality he might never be the QB we drafted him to be... And we would be dumb to let Cousins go...

Can't keep them both. Logic says trading Cousins is still the plan, unless Cousins plays out of his mind and the team wins a ton of games it's hard to imagine the plan changing.

I think we need to revisit this convo after Kirk has played in a few more games.

And, no, Smoot, you're not the only one who saw RGIII playing well before he got hurt. I saw it, my wife saw it (before she fell asleep on the couch, lol!)

In the end, whatever and whoever gets us to another Super Bowl championship is who I'll roll with. If it's RGIII, Kirk Cousins, or Stone Cold Steve Austin, that's who I'll pull for. Team first!

But for the record, if we do compare RGIII to Joe Theismann, Doug Williams, and Mark Rypien in their primes, RGIII is probably still head and shoulders over in terms of athletic ability and ceiling height.

I think they can keep them both until 2016 when both of their contracts are up. By then everyone will know what RG and KC can do and then go from there.

Both have 4 year deals that are up after the '15 season, Griffin has the 5th year team option. The downside of holding them both is you obviously lose the ability to trade Cousins.

By then, the league should have an idea of the fair trade value of one or both players, which might help to get a deal done if Cousins plays well. Because of Cousins' expiring contract, we won't be able to wait beyond this season to trade one of them.

But that is getting ahead of ourselves. I'm focused more on beating Philly right now.

Thanks for the contract clarification.

The downside of trading KC too soon is that you completely hitch your wagon to what is a damaged and apparently injury prone horse.
