I still don't understand why Baltimore fans even care about the Redskins.
I feel like the Skins and the Ravens have a relationship where Skins are like the Ravens younger brother; a nuisance and fun to pick on because they're not as good as they are. As brothers, the Skins and the Ravens would be just close enough in age where you're actually able to kick them in the nuts rather than just sit there and take it because you're too young to fight back. I feel like that's what happens when you have two teams close to each other in proximity and one team is better than the other (at least on paper). |
I still don't understand why Baltimore fans even care about the Redskins.
Some have explained it to me that: 1. When Baltimore lost their beloved Colts overnight they were distraught, and they would get Redskins games on TV instead of the Colts, which made them bitter. 2. The Redskins blocked Baltimore for years from getting another franchise. 3. They're Baltimorons . . . FOX45 strives to broadcast as many Redskins games as are available to us. The FOX network follows the AWAY NFC teams each week. CBS follows the AWAY AFC teams each week. Here`s how you can tell if FOX45 will be showing the Redskins: If the Redskins are away or playing an NFC team at home in the afternoon, then the game would be on FOX. If the Redskins are playing at home, against a visiting AFC team in the afternoon, then the game would be on CBS. If the Ravens - the market`s home team, are playing at home in the afternoon against an AFC team, then the game will air on CBS and FOX45 will not be able to show ANY game at the same time - even if FOX has a national double-header weekend scheduled. If the Ravens - the market`s home team, are playing at home in the afternoon against an NFC team, then the Ravens will most likely air on FOX45 at that time, even if a Redskins game is scheduled at the same time. IMPORTANT EXCEPTION: If the FOX network offers a game that may have playoff implications for The Ravens, the market’s home team - FOX45 may opt to air this division or conference game in lieu of a Redskins game. These rules are set forth by the National Football League and are unfortunately beyond much of our control. Some Redskins games will undoubtedly not be carried on FOX45 due to these restrictions and we apologize to our viewers for this inconvenience. Why doesn`t FOX air any other games when the Ravens are playing? NFL broadcast rules prohibit stations from airing any games while the home team is playing at home. Jordan Reed (hamstring) remained sidelined at Friday's practice.
Reed isn't going to play this week, leaving tight end duties to Niles Paul once again. Paul is a high-end TE2 with TE1 upside this week in Philadelphia. per rotoworld. Sucks, but looks like Paul probably in this week. Kinda hoping Reed was going to return. |

The local stations used to have their pick of which games they wanted to broadcast. So, you're saying that has been rescinded and the NFL decides what they can broadcast? I didn't know that had changed. |

That's true, although the NFL doesn't decide willy-nilly on a game-by-game basis. Instead there is a formula in which the NFL eliminates tv competition for the "home" team yet remains fair to both Fox and CBS. It happens here all the time, when I get no other game because the Saints are playing, even if on another network. This situation drove me to get Sunday Ticket. |

No - the requirements only prohibit broadcasting the Skins game if Baltimore playing at home, at the same time as the Skins. If the Ravens are playing an away game with an NFC team at the same time the Skins are playing (home or away) an NFC team, Fox will understandably choose to broadcast the Ravens game. If an AFC team is playing an away game against an NFC team in a game that has playoff ramifications for the Ravens and at the same time the Skins are playing (home or away) an NFC team, Fox will understandably choose to broadcast the AFC v NFC game rather than the Skins. If the Ravens are playing away games against AFC opponents at the same time the Skins are playing an away game against an AFC opponent, CBS will understandably choose to broadcast the Ravens game. As far as I am aware -- IN CASES WHERE THE RAVENS ARE AWAY AGAINST AFC OPPONENTS, AND THE SKINS ARE PLAYING AN NFC OPPONENT, THERE ARE NO RESTRICTION PREVENTING FOX 45 FROM BROADCASTING THE REDSKINS GAMES. If I am wrong, please someone point out the policy. In this case, the Ravens are away against an AFC opponent and the Skins are playing an NFC opponent. As far as I can tell, this is a discretionary choice by the station. Ravens game. |

If local affiliates just chose to show what they wanted, there'd be no oversight of the Fox-CBS balance. There are too many $$$ on the line for either Fox or CBS to be happy with anything other than a 50/50 balance of games shown. I'm telling you, it is the same situation in NOLA as it is in Baltimore. And, if you keep the Fox-CBS balance in mind, it is entirely predictable. |
Re: Skins vs Eagles Pre Game Thread
Except, they have regularly broadcast Skins and Ravens games at the same time in the past. In past years, I always preferred weeks when Ravens played away because it meant I got four games broadcast. Consistently.
I know their are additional restrictions for "Game of the Week" designations but as far I can tell, there is absolutely no reason for Baltimore to NOT broadcast the game this week. In past years, this was a week I could count on watching the Skins. In fact, the few times they bumped the Skins in such situations it was because they were broadcasting a Philly game and claiming that a substantial portion of their demographic preferred the Philly game over the Skins. Honestly, this is either a conscience choice or something else out of the ordinary at work. (FYI - They are broadcasting American LeMans Racing in Austin Texas instead of football). |

And they do so in order to keep the Fox-CBS balance. Look here, you can see the whole season charted out in advance, without any input from your local affiliate: 506 Sports - NFL |
Re: Skins vs Eagles Pre Game Thread
That's just the listings of channels and the designated nationally televised games.
Follow the links for each week and the only one "mapped out" is the upcoming week. |

If CBS (or Fox) gets just one extra game, the other side will cry foul for the money involved. Doesn't this make sense? If I am wrong, how else do Fox and CBS keep the balance which obviously must be kept? Otherwise, I'm done with this issue. |
Re: Skins vs Eagles Pre Game Thread
some of us have been talking about it since the leadup to week 1 :)
i just don't think we're as bad as 3-13 suggest. there was a lot of crap going on last season that's been removed. and honestly... the salary cap and the front office have loaded this team with talent. a lot of young talent. this year may wind up being mediocre, but i'm thoroughly pleased with the way they went about drafting and free agency. of course, wtf do i know.
Just having the Shananigins gone is an instant improvement imo. |
Re: Skins vs Eagles Pre Game Thread
I do believe it is all strictly defined (JR being a lawyer, you would think he would like how precisely it's all worded)
This week, I believe the key is that it's an AFC double header week. Since that's the case and Baltimore is the early game and away, the Fox station is showing the 2nd game. Given the game choices, if there were discretion, I can't imagine Baltimore choosing SF-Arizona over Wash Philadelphia. Especially considering SF-Arizona is competing head to head with Denver v Seattle. I remember 506 used to have all the rules listed somewhere on there site, but i couldn't find it now. |

I wonder if DJax plays if we see several under throws to him with KC not having much practice time together.

Re: Skins vs Eagles Pre Game Thread
I just finished re-watching last weeks game and came away very impressed with Grant, Amerson, Paul, Hatcher, Way, Redd, Kerrigan. This team is much better than anything Shanahan fielded including the assistant coaches. Skins win tomorrow, defense dominates.

The play where Jackson hurt his shoulder was an under throw from Cousins. With a better throw, Jackson catches that pass and maybe even scores. Will one week throwing together help? In one way, it doesn't seem like it would be that hard to adjust to his speed, but there must be something to it since everyone from Keim to Cousins himself talks about it. Getting the win would be great. Hitting DJax long a few times would be the icing. Chip Kelly deserves nothing less. |
