Re: Cowboys vs Skins: Pre-Game thread
Colt McCoy will start Monday night's game at Dallas, as expected.
The Redskins tried to keep everyone guessing by listing Robert Griffin III (ankle) as questionable, but he was never a realistic bet to suit up. It will be the McCoy show on a national stage, leaving the Cowboys defense to lick its chops. In 21 career NFL starts, McCoy has thrown 20 interceptions, fumbled 12 times and taken 55 sacks. Griffin will either be back for Week 9 against the Vikings or immediately following the Week 10 bye. for those who were holding out any hope per rotoworld |
Re: Cowboys vs Skins: Pre-Game thread
It'd be nice if we had a defense and special teams that could pick it up enough to make up for having a reasonably decent backup QB in the game.
It'd probably help if said backup could get a first down every now and then. Instead of 3-and-outs. |

A conservative game plan against Dallas would be a mistake. Dallas is better than we are. I don't think we can beat them with a vanilla game plan. Our only advantage is that they have something to lose and we don't. If they play cautiously while we let it all hang out, we might get lucky and steal the game. If we don't win, at least it might be an entertaining game to watch. |

Re: Cowboys vs Skins: Pre-Game thread
ernest byner, a great redskin. very cool NC.
really pumped up for tonight. perfect time to knock the boys off on MNF at their house. im torn on the approach we should take - gamble or play tight? i would like to stop the run as our first priority but i am very afraid to leave our secondary exposed bc we are prone to mis-communication and letting guys get behind coverage. im interested to see how our coaching staff approaches this must-win game. |
Re: Cowboys vs Skins: Pre-Game thread
It would be awesome if Gruden puts a good game together tonight, his first as our HC. I like Gruden and think he could develop into a great HC, but so far it's been pretty bad. The plays come in too slow, his play design isn't impressive and he doesn't have the team playing their guts out.
Like said earlier a conservative gameplan on offense would be a mistake. Whip the oline and put it on them to open lanes for Morris to pound the rock, but then take big shots downfield. |
Re: Cowboys vs Skins: Pre-Game thread
Just found a penny on heads. Take that Cowboys!

Even though there's no new update on the name change debate, I found it refreshing to read an article on the other supporters of the name.

Re: Cowboys vs Skins: Pre-Game thread
RG3 relieves Colt after halftime...throws 2 deep bombs to Jackson and pulls a 2005 Brunell type comeback victory against the Cowgirls. Game ball goes to D Jax and is renamed the new Cowboy killer.

He clearly plans to attack defenses at their weak points, however, the execution between interceptions, dropped balls and missed blocking assignments has been less than good. Throw in penalties and turnovers, and you just can't game plan around that. As to "playing their guts out," maybe. Maybe not. Several players play injured, other than the NYG game, I haven't seen any "quit" on the field. Don't get me wrong, the buck stops at the coaching and he needs to turn around the mistakes and execution errors or, alternatively, he needs to sit folks down - if only for a series or two - just to send a message. |
Re: Cowboys vs Skins: Pre-Game thread
I haven't noticed any issues with effort or plays either. I guess when you win you're fighting your guts out and when you lose you must be slacking. Injuries and mediocre QB play have killed us more than anything.

Re: Cowboys vs Skins: Pre-Game thread
DON'T start with your BS excuses about.....third string QB in the box.....
Next man up..... |
Re: Cowboys vs Skins: Pre-Game thread
for a 2-5 start, i also have confidence in gruden from what we have seen so far. i feel like he has been thrown a lot of wrenches with 1) having to try and figure out how he wants to use RG3 and implementing it through PS .. 2) injury to RG3 early-on throws almost everything out the window and we have to start over ... 3) handling the media and rg3 v cousins debate (very well) ... 4) turnovers and injuries ...
nothing in the first 7 games has come easy for Gruden. |
Re: Cowboys vs Skins: Pre-Game thread
listening to the national pundits talk about Griffin, his ability, the 2012 offense and this year's offense is painful.
You'd like as much as they're paid they'd have more of a clue. Mike Tirico was embarrassingly uninformed for his spot today on 980 and Sheehan called him out, much more respectfully than he should of. Listening to those guys, you'd like that Griffin is only capable of running the ball and the 2012 Shanahan offense was 100% read option runs or something. |
Re: Cowboys vs Skins: Pre-Game thread
Not sure what thread to put this in, but for what its worth:
My uncle is an orthopedic surgeon in the area. When Lavar Arrington had his degenerative knee problem he told me his career was done way before anyone else was saying it, and before we let him go and he played for NY. Anyways, he seems to think RG3 will comeback close to his old form, (maybe not college form) and says if he continues to play the way he does, he is likely to get injured again, and any injury could be his last. |
Re: Cowboys vs Skins: Pre-Game thread
was riley benched or injured for the cards game?
i thought he was benched for poor play but sites are saying he was injured? |
Re: Cowboys vs Skins: Pre-Game thread
^Riley had a sprained MCL.
|
Re: Cowboys vs Skins: Pre-Game thread
^ true, although Compton has been a pleasant enough surprise, I wonder whether they will rush Riley back, who had been pretty poor in coverage.
|
Re: Cowboys vs Skins: Pre-Game thread
Compton has been okay. He hasn't had his name called in a positive or negative way. Riley was a capable run-stopper and occasionally made tackles and stops I don't see Compton making. However, Riley was deadweight in pass defense. Again, I don't see Compton making the same mistakes Riley made.
I would rather overall mistake free defense than a few good plays on running downs coupled with completely blowing coverages. |

I wish it wasn't national tv. I'm hopeful we pull the upset and shut the Cowfucker fans up.

Cowboys win, 28-23.
Record so far: 4-3. |

Fletcher is right, especially from the QB's POV (RG, Kirk and now Colt, in turn). But I give Gruden the benefit of the doubt handling the QB situation because it's pretty unusual. Where there's real reason for concern with Gruden is like I alluded before, play calling, scheme, game management and motivation. 1. He's long struggled with the first three. My opinion the Bengals lost their playoff game last year because Gruden inexplicably gave up on the run for the 2nd half, even after it carried them through the 1st half. Heard at least a few commentators say the same thing. He's just a very inconstant play caller and doesn't really know how to win at the pro level yet. 2. We're still one of the sloppiest, most undisciplined teams in pro football. And I see players go easy and let up waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too soon, especially on offense. That's on the team leader. If it's not Gruden, who else? |
Re: Cowboys vs Skins: Pre-Game thread
I can't in any form of good consciousness come in here and say we won't get embarrassed ... If we had d hall, I'd feeel OK that Bryant would be in check... But between him written and Williams, were screwed. Stop Murray most of the game then get gashed when we need a stop, play a 10-12 yd cushion all night and get burned on quick routes... U know, the normal skins game...
Hope for the best, Prepare for the worst. 27-24 skins 31-16 girls. |

Re: Cowboys vs Skins: Pre-Game thread
No game thread? Wow. This season really is taking its toll. :(

Re: Cowboys vs Skins: Pre-Game thread
Honestly, I think this is going to have to be like the year when the Redskins scabs came in and beat a Dallas team where several starters had crossed the picket line. We have:
-- a rookie at CB (Breeland) -- a 2nd year CB starting his first season (Amerson) -- a 1st time start for our 6th round draft choice RT (Compton) -- essentially, a rookie ILB (Robinson missed his first two seasons) -- our 3rd string QB (McCoy) -- a 2nd year NT (Baker) -- a 2nd year TE (Reed who, notably, has lost a lot of time due to injury) -- a rookie OLB with his 1st start (Murphy) Honestly, I am waiting for Keanu Reeves and Jon Favreau to suit up for this game. Let's just hope that we can get the same result. |

They should show the NFL today clip where Bill Cowher literally laughed at the notion that Colt McCoy could pull the upset. |

I was gonna be sweet........but
In case anybody needs clarification, this is why you don't.......puss out on your team!!! Httr! |
Re: Cowboys vs Skins: Pre-Game thread
The only thing that has me holding out hope is that the Skins would have had a chance at least for another win or two if it weren't for all the turnovers by Cousins. If Colt can come in and manage the game, let DJax and Garcon make some big plays, our D shows up like they should for a rival, we minimize the penalties, and not give up anything big on ST, well we might stand a chance. Those are a lot of ifs . . .
Another big day for Cobra Kai! Redskins - 26 Cowboys - 24
Was right about everything but the score. Hail! |
