Fans often act on impulse and that impulse is usually ignorant, idiotic, whatever. Redskins fans in general I find to be dumber than many other NFL fans. Maybe it's a product of just being a poor organization for so many years. And I don't mean they're dumb people. They're just dumb when it comes to the Redskins.

All that said, that's a lot of what being a fan is all about. Fans have the freedom, even the right, to be complete morons with almost zero repercussions. Ownership and the front office doesn't get that privilege
....Totally true
And I've said many, many times the Redskins FO too often acts like idiot fans. And as I said above, they don't have that privilege.

Your insistence of finding fault with the media at every turn baffles me. But I guess it's your opinion and you're entitled to it
I dont at every turn, but come on SS, they are not absolved. I just said they fan the flames and are insincere in their assumptions and make statments that arent smart for reaction.

So why are Skins fan dumb if they are not dumb people?

As it was already mentioned in this thread, in this article it says that if AJ Smith does join the Redskins Allen will most likely remain team president and GM. F that. This team is a joke. It's crazy but it seems worse now than it ever did under Vinny. Allen is a boob, I don't know how Snyder can watch 5 minutes of that press conference and confidently say this is the guy I want running my team. I know for me after I heard that presser I decided I am finally done being a part of the problem, after a decade of having season tickets I'm out. This team can go F themselves.

I think organization is still heading in the wrong direction...Bruce, Scott Campbell, and other lackies who Danny Boy listens too who shouldnt be involved....they need to go.

This organization isnt making the changes it needs too...or they are half assed.

There was something on twitter from HTTR24/7 who said Bruce isnt serious with the folks he is interviewing this round for DC...says dog and pony show, Bruce already know who he will hire.

I mean, its a joke of an organization

The browns reportedly offered a 4th. Allen wouldn't give him up for anything less than a 2nd. Good thing that worked out in our favor...

I think the reason they won't offer Smith the GM position, is because he reportedly doesn't like any of the 3 QBs, and Jay Gruden isn't "his guy".

Meaning: Dan Snyder isn't ready to fully hit the reset button yet.

As always, good insight from Keim. I had forgotten that W. Phillips had ties to Smith.

Also, much as he is a whipping boy at the moment, Keim sets out Allen's important function in the franchise as "Snyder Buffer Zone."

Particularly if the relationship between Smith and Wade Phillips (San Diego connection) results in Wade coming here. I am so tired in seeing Bruce hiring people he is familiar with. If you're conducting a real job search you open it up to the best candidates. Phillips is easily the most accomplished.

If they hire him instead of a familiar face it will show me they are actually letting AJ make some calls. Which would be a step in the right direction.

Wade and AJ go back to their Buffalo days together

I'm totally fine with AJ Smith in charge of football operations

Just read a few articles on AJ's drafting philosophy. He mentions that he learned the basis of his philosophy working in the USFL under coach George Allen. According to Wiki, George Allen was the coach of the Chicago Blitz back in 1983. Wiki also listed another Allen associated with the Blitz, GM Bruce Allen, go figure right...

Here's the article if anyone is interested.

If this move goes down Smith needs to put a blue print together. Give the team direction. Figure out what type of team they want to be.They all need to realize that we're in rebuild mode, and not reload mode.

I personally don't want to see a free agent spending spree because we're not a few players away. Build your team by drafting well before we go down that road again.

I voted no but I feel this question is more loaded than a yes or no answer can provide. I trust AJ Smith as far as talent evaluation is concerned, but I don't want him if his duties involve most aspects of a GM position. He always had a knack for getting talent in SD, but I feel he did not do a good job of negotiating in good faith with his talented players. How much of that was budget concerns from people above him I do not know, but I don't want him to be a replacement for Bruce Allen. If we are relying on him solely to evaluate talent I am fine with it.

Sounds like Allen isn't going anywhere, so yeah that's the scenario we're most likely looking at.

I'm good with AJ, but Id still like him to bring in someone else as well. Maybe reshape some structure within the scouting department. Kinda shake it up a lil bit.

It needs to be shaken up till it crumbles to the ground and has to get re-built. We need new blood in the GM/Scouting Department.

A.J. Smith should move into the GM role (personnel decisions) and he/the team should hire a new young director of scouting or whatever the position is called to learn from Smith and take over when Smith retired/steps down.

And I mean a young director from a completely different team with a fresh take on scouting/player development.

Bruce Allen shouldn't be making any decisions on what players are on the team, he should just handle contracts and other business management things the team requires.

Personally, I'd target the Eagles. I feel like almost every year they hit a home run in FA and always seem to reload vs. rebuild through the draft.

Re: A.J. Smith to be Redskins GM?

Assuming he sobers up and wants to get back into the league Scot McCloughan would be an ideal candidate to get this organization back on track if this latest restructure doesn't pan out. Then again working for Snyder might not be the best scenario for someone fresh off a 12 step program.

McCloughan worked for the 49ers and Seahawks (The two most talented teams in the league) and was involved in drafting guys like Vernon Davis, Patrick Willis, Joe Staley, Richard Sherman, and Russell Wilson.

Re: A.J. Smith to be Redskins GM?

AJ Smith running the scouting department and selecting the players will be good for the Redskins. Jay Gruden needs a veteran DC to balance out the lack of experience on this staff. I would like to have a guy like Norton but the inexperience in the role with this media market would set them up for failure.

I also think Phillips would keep the linebacker coaches who have done well this season.
