While McCloughan has said he intends to the build through the draft, if Baluga fits in Jay's system and is available at the right price, I am confident SM would make an offer.

I wouldn't expect Redskin 1 to be out of the gates day one, but, in light of SM's comments and where we are talentwise, I would expect them to look into a few folks who become available.
I can see us again making some low key (but important) free agent acquisitions as we did last year. The difference is that I trust McC's talent evaluation. While you're not going to turn things around overnight, we need some areas to be somewhat functional next season. The o-line is one of those areas IMO.

Yeah, I certianly think Scot will look at our talent, what their price tag is...look at the market and find cheaper, more talented guys and bring them over. Even stop gap types who give you more for cheap.

I expect a ton our of roster to be cut or not brought back next year. Also think there will be a couple surprise cuts.
Trading for a QB would be stupid. Build both lines, bolster the defense, fix special teams, and set up a situation where a young/inexperience QB can grow and be successful.
I agree to a point. If there's a way to improve your QB situation you always try and take a look since that's the most important position on the team. If there's better QB play here last year this is an 8-8 team.
Yeah I had said the same thing earlier in the year. Bradford, RGIII and Kirk battle it out. McCoy IMHO is not going be a starter in this league.
I think we see Kirk shipped out this year and it will be RGIII and Colt or some other street veteran. Colt might get some looks as a potential stop gap starter around the league. He was not horrible.

Re: 2015 Free Agents
Typically you carry 3 QB's. RGIII is under contract and is fairly cheap plus he is playing for that 5th year payday.

McCoy has already been through CLE he is not going back.
I thought there was potential for Kirk to follow Shanny jr. to Cleveland but there is no way he is going to Atlanta

So, lets say we sign nobody of note. No big money spent except to lock up Kerrigan and T. Williams. Lots of cuts, lots of no-names signed. A clear "We are cleaning the cupboard and starting over" type of offseason.

How much bitching will ensue? Who would have a problem with that?

At this point I would not care if we did that. (I still want DeSean for Madden though.)

I would cry of happiness.

I would have no problem with that. Clean house, change the uniforms back to the winning uniforms of the 1980's, and welcome the glory years again!

So when was the last Haynesworth-like deal that this team had in free agency? I mean is that why people are so afraid of free agency?

Adding a starter-caliber player to the offensive line, for example, doesn't equate a trip to the playoffs nor does it fix all the problems this team has. But what it can do is to improve the offensive line enough to help your struggling QB.

To a point I wouldn't mind, but you can't just cut everybody who "sucks". Doing that would unnecessarily put us deeper in the hole. Chester, Bowen, and Clark obviously need to go. Guys like Meriweather, Lavuao, and Porter can still help.

I agree. If Baluga or Iupati can be had for a reasonable price and they fit what Gruden wants, fine. Good additions both.

At the same time, I am more concerned that the draft well. Anyone we sign in FA now is really a band aid as we transition to the Scot McC era. It took four years for SF to become a consistent contender. Even if these guys are 26 out of their first K, they are just gonna be stop gaps as we, hopefully, build for the long term.

No. It's because free agency rarely works. You rarely get the same player that you think you're getting, for whatever reason. There are numerous examples all around the league and on the Redskins roster.

I'd probably pass on Iupati. He's going to be too expensive. I'd hope that they pencil in Long at guard and draft a starting RT.

Spencer Long? The guy we drafted last year that wasn't good enough to play, let alone start, this year? You want him "penciled in?"

WHAT gives you any indication he should be an NFL starter for a QB who is currently struggling????????

I'm being totally serious also. If you can provide me with ANY credible reason to start this guy let me hear it, otherwise all this lobbying for Long needs to stop.

We do need to chill in free agency. We just swiped djax last year. If its not a free agent olineman which in that case id take best available ready to play lg, rg, or rt. No luavos lol what a joke. If not oline a safety but thats the position i want us to take our first pick with.

I take that slightly back. I wouldnt mind a pick up here and there after looking at that list. We were so bad. Oline / defense. Oline / defense. All we need fellas lets go

It's funny how some people say NO free agents but you look at the Seahawks who signed both Michael Bennett and Cliff Avril in free agency, it's about being smart and blending the draft with FA.

Can't compare us to the Seahawks who added theyre final pieces on defense thru FA. They have 4 elite dbs bro.... 4. Then up front Wagner.. two you named. And tons of role players even theyre nickel Lane is decent.. we have biggers...

But anyway.. im not saying no free agents. Im saying Oline in free agency. One other piece front office likes and that's it. Watch were gonna take it easy youll see.

Did I say we wouldn't? I said it makes no sense to assume that we are going to draft 53 players no matter how many years the rebuild takes. It is about being smart in FA, and hitting on the right picks, but to say we will not add anyone via free agency is pretty stupid

I would say this is a perception based on our teams experience. There are teams that find quality pieces in FA and use them to succeed. If a team routinely struggles to find pieces in FA then that is a FO issue.

Has there been a Porter sighting? All those guys you mentioned can go bye-bye as far as I'm concerned. In fact, I think the guy who had the idea of throwing a grenade into the locker room to make the cuts wasn't far off.

I hardly care who goes bye-bye or how bad our W-L record may be over the next couple of seasons as long as we get younger and better to set ourselves up for long-term success. I want to see a true team build.

Clausen played half decent for Chicago this year. Ponder isnt exactly putrid either.
If we need a body on the roster for that spot I would look at those two.

True, couple guys that I have my eye on is Mike Glennon and Sam Bradford under contract and if they get cut. The only free agent is Ryan Mallet and to see if he is offered a contract by Texas.

Porter was actually pretty solid when he played, but yeah, perhaps he's too injury-prone to keep. Meriweather shouldn't be penciled in as the starter, but if he comes back on a salary close to what he made this year(1.2 million I think) he'd be a good option to compete. And Lavuao wasn't as bad as a lot think IMO. He finished strong anyway.

Okay, let's just cut everybody. How are you planning on replacing them? With free agents? Unless we spend a boatload of money, that's a lot of change just for the sake of change. Draft picks? We'll probably have at the very most 10 or so, and a lot of those won't be ready to play right away, despite your opinion that rookies have to be or they're "useless."

I don't care if they stay or go because we will be losing for the next couple of years with or without them. We'd actually be better off going 0-16 than 4-12. Then we'd get the No. 1 draft pick.

I'd rather have younger players; UDFA's, players off of other team's Taxi Squads, CFL players, and players straight off the street who we can try to develop. If I were the GM, I'd give any big, fast young player who shows up at Redskins Park a tryout. That's what Jimmy Johnson did when he took over the Cowboys years ago and he found some good players that way.

Porter played in 3 games, and had 5 tackles- 1 pass deflection. He earned about $2.5..... if he takes the veteran minimum, plus his bonus, bring him to training camp, and see if he can make the team.

Meriweather must go, he is one dimensional, decent tackler ... no coverage skills.

Half the PFs they called on him were legit hits.
