Really interesting to see Demarco Murry getting sold short. 16 ranking? I think people are really really overvaluing that Dallas Oline. I mean, sure they are good, but damn you have to take a beating to run the ball that much and still get that productive. IMO Murry was MVP on that offense and I think he can be very valuable outside of Dallas.
They put Torrey Smith ahead of Murray? laughable
murray gets hurt a lot. not a good trait for an expensive RB to have. |

In case anyone is interested in the star power.
1. lots of DE. thats not good for rak but good for us. 2. that center Hudson is interesting. rumor is gruden wants bigger O line but Hudson seems to have all the right check marks - young, on the upside, position of need .... will he sign for the right price though? with hudson at center, lich goes back to guard for 1 more yr (then we cut him), lets lauvau and long battle for other guard spot. if hudson gets injured, lich moves back to center .... 3. murray would be great on the bills or a team needing someone to carry their offense. maybe seattle to replace lynch? |
Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?
The new GM is a draft guy. There won't be much in FA this year. Garcon should be not be brought back his contract is prohibitive, and it shouldn't be re-structured due to the fact that he shouldn't be in their long term plans. Play the rookies and the people that were drafted and that will be drafted.
Play the rookies to find out who is a NFL player and who's not. Build through the draft means you play very young players. The skins were 3-13 and 4-12, REBUILD FROM SCRATCH. |
Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?
Garcon not in long term plans? What gives you that notion? Getting rid of garcon, in my opinion is just stupid, unless he wants major money.

IMO some people are just use to us letting go of players instead of holding on to the few good ones we have. |

What if he is a being a cancerous influence in the locker room because he doesn't like the QB? |

Garcon is a guy that never takes plays off and gives maximum effort no matter the score. If saying what the rest of the roster and every football person who watches film is thinking then I guess he is guilty. |
Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?
What if he is a being a cancerous influence in the locker room because he doesn't like the QB?
Are your referring to that QB that called out his teammates in a post game press conference to the national media no less? At least Garcon did not do it standing on a stage with the lights and cameras rolling like that certain QB did. More of a Cancerous influence: RGIII>Garcon If Garcon or one of our top 3 Wr's get released it will be because of the massive Salary cap space our top3 WR's are taking up on a roster that has huge fundamental roster/talent issues at more critical positions (OL & DB). Not because Garcon a bad apple, he is not. |
Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?
No bug names in FA, no expected starters (unless they hit on a flyer), they should go for depth in FA only. Build through the draft!
Draft road graders on the OL. Get big body NT and draft studs to go around him (if you stay in a 3-4), get long, smooth transitioning (good hip turns) DBs. "BUILD IT AND WINS WILL COME" I know that sites like these aren't meant for patient fans, but its going to take time to build a winner. The Skins have to realize that they can't buy a winning team. It has to be built from the ground up (build the lines correctly, and the rest will follow). |

There are 9 million reasons to let Garcon go. Face facts this is a RE-BUILD, let him go and have that money to pay short term defensive help where there are talent gaps. if Garcon is here or not - this is a 8 win team at best. They are at least 2 yrs. away from contending, in any configuration you want to suggest. Blow it up and start fresh. |

I think you are not calculating dead cap space in your equation. Also, this is a business first off. If Danny and company just said F it and dropped every good player we had be tough to sell. The general public doesn't like to hear we are in a re-building stage; really puts some pressure on your marketing department. Garcon, Morris, etc... they are the few stars we have folks want seem then and will pay to do so. You got at least maintain a level of hope that this might be a good team in 2015. |
Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?
Our WR corps is sound.
Leave it alone. We got way too much other crap to fix. |
Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?
I don't get cutting Garçon. I'm 100% on board with the rebuild and all. But he's one of our best players. Who steps in to take his place? The guys behind him are not even competent.

Not worth releasing him because we would still be on the hook cap wise. Next off season his release fee is only $2.2million. Plus when Garcon has a capable QB throwing him the ball he is a great WR. I would rather keep him at this time. Garcon is not the problem. |
Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?
i like garcon. i really like d jax.
but our percent of cap tied to WR is very high and among the highest in the NFL. garcon is not the problem. but being cap heavy with WR on a team with several starter holes is a problem. its a tough decision imo. |
Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?
It is not ideal but if we are really building this team through the draft with a full complement of draft picks (finally a #1) the pricier/deadweight/not worth their salary type players like Orakpo will be eventually be replaced and gone soon, opening up more cap space.
I do not think Garcon falls in that category because when playing with a real NFL QB he is still great receiver and an excellent/physical blocker which is what i really like about him. DB's have to have their heads on a swivel when he is around. I say we suck it up and keep him. |

Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?
This is from Rich Tandler's column of today:
"...This is going to make people mad so I’ll get it out of the way right off the bat—the coaching staff does not believe that the offensive line is the five-alarm dumpster fire that most fans seem to believe it is. Yes, there were too many sacks but the blame for many of them was on the quarterbacks, particularly Robert Griffin III and Colt McCoy, and the tight ends and running backs. As far as running the ball, they averaged 4.2 yards per carry, which is the NFL average." With this in mind, we probably should start taking a closer look at big TE's and RB's who can pass-protect when speculating on which FA's and draft-eligible players the Skins might go after. |
Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?
Whaaaaaat?
|
Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?
We should calculate how many times open recievers weren't thrown to to get more of an idea of garcons value to the team. I do not want to see him go. Didn't he have something like a 60 yard run off a screen pass or check down last year? Why would anyone want to get rid of a legitimate threat? If a team is 're building, are they supposed to get rid of players that sure up a position to create another need?
|
Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?
Whaaaaaat?
The OL is only a four alarm dumpster fire, I guess. It doesn't matter what we think should be done in FA and the draft. It's a matter of what the coaches and the GM think. I'm just suggesting that they may look to upgrade at TE and RB. |
Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?
Blocking by the TE's and backs was definitely a significant issue last year.

Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?
Tandler says not a dumpster fire but alludes to replacing the right side of the line...huh? Replacing 2 starters says a lot about what the coaching staff thought of last years Oline.
|
Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?
At the most we could be looking at 2 new starters on the OL. Not exactly the sweeping changes some think there should be.
|
Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?
MIKE IUPATI.
I agree with the 'build through the draft' way of thinking but nearly every team tries to fill 1 or 2 holes via free agency each year. So this is my 1 player splurge. Then draft a RT and watch our O go! |
Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?
I could see a couple of guys from Cincy or a few from Scott's other stops. Other than that I don't expect much.

Then draft a RT and watch our O go!
Respectfully disagree. Iupati is a great run blocker and a fair pass blocker. Somebody will give him a huge contract. Guard isn't a position top teams spend max money on. Qb, LT, pass rusher, dominate DT, shut down corner, number 1 wr, super smart Middle LB are all better positions to spend money on. We should pass. He will command top money for the position and be too expensive for us. He will probably make more than the combined salary of all the starting guards in the super bowl this year. (Totally just guessed there, don't light me up too bad if I'm wrong) |

I would rather draft Danny Shelton than sign Williams, to me he is Dontari Poe 2.0 and we see how that defense developed once he got there. Another thing, what do people think about Ray McDonald. |
Re: Who should we go for in Free Agency?
it looks like we are bringing in Vernon Gholston for a try out, he is a former #6 overall pick, I wonder if they are going to try and make him a true DE since he failed as an OLB with the Jets.
