I do agree with you on this point. I confess that I did perceive your comments as a knock on KC. Sorry about that. If he has to carry us, then we're in trouble. We'll probably win many of the games when we can run the ball and play tough D. Conversely, we'll probably lose nearly all of the games when we're unable to do those things.

Nevertheless, I'm happy where we are right now in what I consider to be Year 1 of our team building and that includes being happy with the play of our current starting QB.

Cousins has a 91.1 rating after week two. He is missing - by far - his best wr, and we have played two good defenses. I think he is going to absolutely torch the Giants secondary. Yea we are a run first team, but KC is not just "along for the ride". Not so far anyway.

How about the shitty punt at the end of the half? Rams had the ball in our territory with plenty of time to at least get 3. Big defensive stand there and the Rams got nothing. Just don't even know what to say about those guys. Just outstanding team defense the last two weeks.

I like how they're calling the games. KC and the entire offense just isn't ready for a 45+ pass attempt type of game. That formula as we saw last year may put up big pass stats, but it also equals a lot of turnovers and losses. They need to keep his attempts right around 30 and give him a running game.

I think at some point we can be that offense if need be. But let all those guys grow into that, instead of forcing it like last year.

Look at the Peyton Manning teams and the Drew Brees Saints teams.. throw 45 passes and it gets ugly especially late in the season. No team should be doing that. Throw 25 passes, let the running game wear the D out and let the D beat the hell out of our opponent and we'll be fine.

Oh i agree 1000%. We arent built to be a passing team. We are built to be a running team. However once d-jax comes back i think we might be more of a dual threat offense that atleast has the ability to open it up thru the air. Not to showcase that but to use it if necessary. If our run game is clicking now wait until d-jax comes back and draws some of the heat downfield with him. I still think KC will light up the Giants. Man their pass d has been atrocious. Yes i know it was Romo n Ryan but they are not good in pass d.

Most of my complaints directed at the offense has been more about Grudens play calling and not KC. I think he is going to throw ints so I think he should open up the passing game some more. Dont abandon the run, just when he does call passes, dont be afraid of KC throwing ints. We were conservative both games with play calling and he still had 2 in the first game and the rams dropped what should have been a sure int yesterday.

Im not saying Gruden has been terrible, just that, at times, he seems to try and get cute with some of his calls. Such as when he does do some first down passing (which imo, is a necessity at times in the NFL) that with our run game going like it has been, to do play action and let KC go for something. I have called for the offense to run screens in the past, but that is something to slow the pass rush down. When the OL is already doing that, then those dont have the effectiveness that they would of had in the past. So dont do screens on 1st down when we do pass there, play action it and look for something down field. KC is a good QB, the ints being his main problem. He is good at Grudens offense, so let him run it.

Granted, I wasnt expecting our OL to dominate 2 of the better D lines in the league nor was I expecting our defense to give up 20 points in 2 games. 20 points in 2 games is beyond fantastic. I keep expecting them to give up 20 points by halftime. If they keep giving up 10 points a game, the conservative play calling is less of an issue.

The passing game will pick up. We will take some more shots downfield. Gruden said the past couple of weeks we were playing really strong D-lines, and so we had to try to get the ball out quickly. So, we will have our opportunities to make some big play in the air.

I agree with others though, that if we get caught up in a shoot out, KC could be a liability. Of course we don't have better options, and we have to work with what we've got, and I think that it is more important that we address other weaknesses on this team first, but if Kirk doesn't improve in this area of his game we will eventually have to look for someone who can.

Again, IMO, he's got a couple of years to improve while we rebuild the team, and it is certainly something many young QB's struggle with and improve at so . . . we'll see.

When did that change? McVay helps formulate the plan for the offense (as well as Callahan helping with the running game), and each has an input to Jay about what they think should be called, but Gruden has always been the one to call the plays.

Gruden def has his hands in the offense from top to bottom. Im pretty sure he is the authority and has final say in most calls, or at least packages.

You could easily tell the offense seem to be a bit more opened up, but to me I was really impressed with the last drive. Cousins converted a couple key 3rd downs throwing the ball...folks that showing confidence in "your guy". And not just trying to kill the clock and give the ball back after running it 3 times saying "let the defense win it"

I've got zero complaints about play calling so far. I think they're managing Cousins amazingly well keeping him out of trouble and giving him plenty of low risk throws to build his confidence and move the chains. And when you can run as well as we have it makes play action so effective.

Was at the Ravens game behind the Skins bench and did not see Gruden call any plays. Even when there was a change of possession KC went right over to McVay and there was no communication with Gruden. I took notice of this and watched pretty closely throughout the game and Gruden did not look like he was relaying anything to McVay.

This was pre season of course but it seems like the same thing is going on regular season. During the change of possessions KC goes right over to McVay. I'm sure Gruden is calling some, but it really looks like McVay perhaps has a larger role here.

McVay and Gruden are both responsible for passing plays with Gruden having final say. Gruden and Callahan on running plays and Gruden generally defers to Callahan on those. my guess is eventually Gruden will be like Gibbs and just have final say on critical moments like 4th down or 2 minute drills

Not that SS needs me or anyone else to back him up on what he said, but I'm sure I heard somewhere (I think it was Joey T.) that the plan was for McVay to call the plays in the preseason games. In the regular season, Gruden would become more involved in the play-calling.

See I don't like that. Either you call the plays or you don't. IMO it just shows lack of confidence.

As for running game, I'm glad it's Callahan that has the power. The man knows how to implement and call a great running game.

McVay is a pretty young OC. I like that they let him learn in preseason. As he learns Gruden can focus more on the HC specific parts. It seems they have a long term plan to build a cohesive group and that's a good thing
