giantone, what happens when the lease expires and the skins move on? i'm sure they'd love more money. I'm not sure a single 1812 replica farm is the death knell to putting a stadium there.

RFK is in DC and the DC council are pretty much the worst people in the world to try and work with, and they still want to push the name change stuff too.

What would I do ?

Okay,if tearing down RFK and building on that spot is a no,then, lease RFK for 2/3 years and build on the Fed Ex site. The Skins already own it and I know Dan is made of Money but the stadium when ever it is built will go for 1.5-2 billion easy Dan is only worth 2 billion(actually a little more) and while he won't foot the whole thing he have to do a pretty good chunk. You already own the site ,there is already a metro with in distance to the stadium.Build a good well thought out stadium and people will come, please just not like the Met Life peace of crap in NJ.

Oh they'll be going back to D.C. and won't change a thing, why because this is America and money talks, this country has never respected the natives and unfortunately they still don't.

"I think we are the best place for the team," McAuliffe said on Thursday. "Every player lives in Virginia. Dan Snyder lives in Virginia. Sixty-six percent of the season-ticket holders are Virginians, so it makes sense - if we can structure a deal that makes sense for us, the taxpayers, and is good for the Redskins - then that's a win-win situation. We are the ideal place."

Is that true? 10 years ago I would not have believed this but now, with the way NoVa has continued to develop, I believe it.

As a born and raised MD person, I would have a hard time accepting the fact that both redskins training facility and stadium would be in Va. The team would have zero connection to MD and MD fans would have to drive a lot farther in horrible traffic to get there.

You would be gifting frederick and howard county to the ravens. I imagine fans in montgomery county could go down 95 and fans in laurel/bowie could use the woodrow wilson bridge.

If this becomes a reality .... i dont know. How can I as a proud maryland person root for a virginia team?

Let's hope Tim Kayne Hillary's VP doesn't put the kabash to this if they get elected.

Just a few things ......

1)If DC gets serious and Mr Snyder is serious the New Stadium will be in DC.

2)2027 is a long way away many things can happen.

3) What do you do with Fedex?

I feel like you're overreacting. The stadium is in MD right now and I have not thought about it once. The team name is Washington Redskins, implying they represent DC and the surrounding area, which includes VA and MD.

How do the SF fans feel about rooting for the San Jose 49ers? Did you know the 49ers stadium is 42 miles from San Fransisco? For us, that's the equivalent of putting the stadium in Stafford, or for your comparison, the distance from north Baltimore to DC. For me, as long as it's within reasonable distance of the beltway it's fine. Besides, if you live in one of those counties that are split on the Skins/Ravens I'd bet it comes down to what team your family likes.

Also in regards to your last line, I am a proud VA person but have no qualms about rooting for a team that plays in MD. Because they represent DC, and parts of MD and VA. As long as they don't play in some other NFL team's backyard idc where the stadium is.

One last point. Right now the only connection the Skins have to DC is the name. They practice in VA and play in MD. Imagine how those fans feel, especially knowing the Skins probably won't come back to DC because the bs over the name and the only suitable location being RFK. I'm sure DC residents would love to have the team back, but they know it won't happen because their elected leaders are playing the pc card.

Finally, all this does for me is tell me that our gov. is putting his chips on the table. The time has come for MD to ante up if they are serious about keeping the team. If MD decides to let the Skins go all the MD residents have nobody to blame but the elected leaders. DS is going to take the Skins where they're wanted, and I'll be suprised if MD lets the Skins go without even trying.

Just to piggyback I don't think DC is ever going to get serious. They haven't had the Skins for 18 years now and I don't think they are serious about trying to get them back. All statements indicate DC leaders don't like the name. Well that's cool, because MD and VA don't care.

2. No way this doesn't happen until 2027. McAuliffe is talking about announcements before the end of the year. Within 5 years we'll be playing somewhere new. DS will pay what he has to to get out of Fedex, or he'll make a deal with someone to get rid of it.

Re: Report: Redskins to unveil drawings of new stadium, location tbd

Don't forget that DC had its team well before NC and I'm from WV and lived 52 miles from DuPont Circle my parents took the Marc to work. So the Redskins have a fan base in WV, VA, MD, NC and even SC. That was a big market share in the 80s.

Back to the topic though, the stadium in northern VA, MD or the city all make sense

I would like it down by the National Harbor like the artist rendition earlier. But I don't really care where they move as much as what is the transportation to and from, and is it a well thought out stadium. I won't be buying season tickets, so it's won't matter a tremendous amount, although if they have outrageous PSL's I imagine that will kick the per game price up too.

This article from 2007 does say that the Skins are bound to the land lease until 2027, but even in it, they said that discussions on a new stadium could start around 10 years from the article (we are at 9 years now).

The land lease aside, I tend to think the question "What to do with FedEx" is really a moot point in terms of what the Redskins are going to do. Whenever they move out they will write off Fedex Field to the relics of history and not look back. My guess is they will make a big show of watching it implode, and say goodbye to that part of Redskins history.

Dan Snyder didn't become a "Billionaire" writing off over half a billion dollars and just letting it go,he'll do something with it .

Re: Report: Redskins to unveil drawings of new stadium, location tbd

He also didn't get to be a billionaire by holding onto assets that are fully capitalized, and losing money each year. If the Redskins move, and his building stays on the land, he will need to lease the land (and pay taxes on the assets). On the other hand, if he strips it down and firesales the parts and pieces off as Redskins memorabilia and then blows the base structure up, he can avoid leasing the land, and be done with Maryland taxes (assuming he builds in VA).

There aren't really many options for an 80,000 seat stadium, especially open air. PG County sure isn't buying it.
