You know, this is one reason I stayed out of this part of the forum for awhile, the toxicity. And that we had no good choice this time around.
Think of my leaving this part of the forum a win if you want, punchitin, I say it's like this election. Either choice, we all lose. |

Donald Trump 59,611,678 Hillary Clinton 59,814,018 Gary Johnson 4,058,500 Jill Stein 1,213,103 Other candidates 0.7% 802,119 I don't know if these are final tallies, but let's count them as such for discussion sake. There is a reason we aren't a pure democracy - they fail quicker then most forms of government and the founding fathers understood this. Personally I wish the Senate was not done by pure popular vote, but instead, closer to the way it was originally written, the state legislature/governor's appoint them. The Senate was supposed to be the more esoteric of the two bodies. With sharpened political minds. Now it's just a more simplistic version of the House of Representatives. And going even further back to the original constitution, how awesome would it be if Trump was President and Hillary was Vice President!!! Bill and Trump would get along swimmingly and Hillary would have two misogynists to defend. |
Nope, just a look at the numbers show who propped him up. Young, old, college educated and non-college grad white people were solidly in favor of him. Hence my statement. meh, people...driven by the outrage porn the media pushes 24/7... are obsessed about race. Guess what? the race exit polls are in line with the last election. Actually Trump slightly won more of the African American vote over Romney and won 30% of the latino vote. 30% of the latino vote, think about that for a second. The media is not paying attention to the stat that always tells the winner....Who won the "independent" vote. This bullshit has nothing to do about race. Americans went to vote period. Why is the country seem so divided ? Blame your bullshit fucking president Obama who sat on you hands the last 6 years. I tell you folks are so bias they refused to blame this god aweful leader. Re: Election Day
Again, I think he's a terrible guy and 100% unqualified to be President, but I was/am still going to give it a chance.
Bad start so far with who is appointing. Not inspiring much confidence. Was reading what he was going to do immediately: 1) Repeal Obamacare. I've always thought this needed re-working, so as long as something improved is put in it's place, I'm actually OK with this. A flat-out repeal with no other plan I do not support. 2) Defund Planned Parenthood. This one is take a LOT of issue with. Most of the people I know that supported Trump, voted for him on this single issue. 3) SO MANY environmental issues to name. He didn't mention a lot of this during his campaign, but if anyone cares about that at all, he's going to absolutely fuck the environment. Things he's not going to do/can't do: 1) Build the wall. Most liberal/conservative sources I've read say there's no way in hell that happens. Expensive. Unpopular. 2) Suddenly doesn't have a hard line stance on Muslims. No mass deportation. I'm wondering how the insane (and there were insane people on both sides) supporters will feel when he hasn't deported every Muslim and hasn't built the wall? I'm trying hard to squint and see some positives, but it's really difficult right now, even if they're just intentions right now. |
Re: Election Day
So if we don't build a wall, are you saying your currently satisfied with the security of the border? Your satisfied with the flow of undocumented folks coming across the border? With the flow of drugs and human trafficking? Human trafficking is big business for bad hombres. What about American Citizens living along the border? Pretty much eff them? Those folks don't deserve the security?
Im kinda lost with folks who think we shouldn't secure the border. So are you good with people just walking through your own property...what about if they are carrying drugs and guns? |

Re: Election Day
The great wall of China stands as one of the new 7 wonders of the world and as a testament to a country defending it's borders from an onslaught. European cities celebrate their castle walls and moats, which again were built as defensive measures. I don't know that we need a physical wall, but the outrage over the concept is purely ridiculous.

Re: Election Day
This election wasn't about whether trump is a meanie or a nice dude. It was about years of neglect for the lower middle class in the middle of this country on the part of DC politicians. The one person charismatic enough and outsider enough came along and said "drain the swamp" and every factory worker sitting on their couch looking for a new job said "Finally!" It didn't matter that he's an asshole. They voted in spite of that. The same message from someone equally as media savvy with a better reputation and a nicer demeanor would have made this a blowout across the board.
A quality post and one that most reflects the truth about this election. People that voted for Trump did so knowing he was a sexist, racist bigot that had no business being a President. In exit polls 2/3 of the people that voted for him said that they knew he was unqualified to be the President. So why vote for him you think? Well, because for all of his faults, he was a political outsider that the system fought against. This same system that has fucked the middle class American families the past 30 years while our politicians continue to allow corporations to ship jobs overseas and to evade taxes. Trump was the conservative equal to the Democratic's Bernie. He represented a change, and one that went against the system that's fucked them over. Now lets switch over to Clinton. Here we have middle class families still hurting from the banking crisis, and the one person the Dems trot out is cozy with Wall Street bankers and who supports another shitty trade pact that's going to send more jobs overseas. Not to mention the pay to play Clinton foundation while she was secretary of state, or the email fiasco, or even the rigging of the primaries against Bernie. She represented the very system they hated. This election was over the moment that Clinton was nominated. The left was just too stupid to think otherwise, and the more they countered with negative ads and media endorsements, the stronger Trump's support gained. Frankly, I've talked to too many Trump voters that flat out said they would have voted for Bernie over Trump because they thought Bernie was a decent man who also fought the system and wasn't really worried about his policies with a standing congress. Make no mistake, many Trump voters aren't happy they had to vote Trump. I voted Johnson personally. |

End Illegal Immigration Act Fully-funds the construction of a wall on our southern border with the full understanding that the country of Mexico will be reimbursing the United States for the full cost of such wall; establishes a two-year mandatory minimum federal prison sentence for illegally re-entering the U.S. after a previous deportation, and a five-year mandatory minimum federal prison sentence for illegally re-entering for those with felony convictions, multiple misdemeanor convictions or two or more prior deportations; also reforms visa rules to enhance penalties for overstaying and to ensure open jobs are offered to American workers first. |

Just curious - what damage do you think he has already done? |
Re: Election Day
International opinion. Regardless of how much the international community knows about our politics, they at least outwardly see the things he's said and done. I imagine if we just saw the highlights of someone like him elsewhere, we'd probably lose a lot of respect for those who voted him in.
EDIT: He also divided this country with a lot of hate. We've beaten that horse to death, but I've never seen Americans pitted against each other like this. Just an example from last night: where I work had a support meeting for foreign students and LGBT students. A few other students PROTESTED this meeting yelling liberal pussies to them. They see that it's OK their President can do it, so it's OK for them to do it too. |

Edit - c-red remember me accidentally flipping the bird to the old lady who was a cowboy fan? U had a problem with that kind of hate.
