So basically in return for our Pro Bowl qb we get 2 rookies and a 5th round rookie?
[yt]DvOHbxBAEN8[/yt]
Lol, This post is about draft prospects. I don't know what we will get if and when the trade happens. That post is about what we could get this year, not even thinking about next year's picks. |
Re: 2017 Draft Prospects
My feeling right now....if Solomon Thomas, Barnett and the 2 safeties are gone at 17....trade back a couple spots

Good strategy, however, I do not see much difference between pick #20 and #30. Who knows maybe you can add a round 2 or a round 3 pick. |

Caleb Brantley, DT (Fla) 6-2, 314
check out the play he makes at 1:21 - fights thru 3 blockers to get a TFL - wow https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCG3gt-QgVw |

John Ross........ no thanks. I see 10 players listed after him I would rather have. If they sign Jackson or Garcon a WR in the first round would be foolish |

This is the 2nd mock I've seen with us picking him. There is just no way we pick a receiver in the 1st round again. I like the Doctson pick but even I'd revolt this year. And I even like Ross, but it just can't/won't happen. |

This is refreshing, Per Keim on Twitter: Doubt he falls here. Know Skins want DL 1st. With Cravens moving there not sure Skins view as needing to take S high. But: BPA theory. thank you Jesus
Take a pure safety for insurance. Don't be surprised if none of last season's rooks aren't on the team in a few years. Most overrated draft we have had in several seasons. The move to S will help Cravens in increasing his chances of staying healthy, but he seemed to be a walking injury last season. IF Doctson hurts his Achilles again I won't cry, but LMAO at how unlucky we were in 2016. |
Re: 2017 Draft Prospects
There's no way in hell Hooker falls to 17. If he does you just laugh at the other teams while you run a 4.3 40 to the podium. Him and Adams won't be there.
I want a defensive lineman, I think our best value combined with need is there. |
Re: 2017 Draft Prospects
I feel like the best value at our pick will be someone on the D line. If I was a gambler, I'd put my money on that. But I'll take any one that plays defense.
|
Re: 2017 Draft Prospects
Here's what my untrained eyes are seeing...
Looking purely at how some of the top d-linemen played in big games this year, I was a little underwhelmed. I want DL more than anyone, but I don't want us to waste a #17 pick either. Myles Garrett (T A&M) against Alabama/LSU - not impressed Caleb Brantley (Fla) against Alabama - non-factor Derek Barnett (Tenn)- against Alabama - non-factor Chris Wormly (Mich) - against Fla State - pedestrian Montravious Adams (Aub) - against Alabama & Clemson - some flashes, some plays off The guys I really liked so far - guys with high motors & forced an impact Jonathan Allen (Ala) Soloman Thomas (Stan) Taco Charlton (Mich) Malik McDowell (Mich St) |
Re: 2017 Draft Prospects
I think Allen will be long gone by the time we pick. Charlton is my fav. He was so disruptive in the games I saw. Like you said, real high motor, quick first step, he has a burst and that's what's we're sorely missing. He'd be my pick at 17, if he's still there.

assuming you are right about Charlton and he is the pick, where does he play ? They have Kerrigan, Smith, Murphy, and maybe Galette . |
Re: 2017 Draft Prospects
Excellent answer, Thomas had 1 sack, several hurries, and 9 tackles in his bowl game. Before the game it appeared he would be available at # 17. It looks like a decent D line class, so a good one should be available.
The mock drafts are all over the place. And the combine has a big impact on picks, so it is still early. Also will the new coach play a 4-3 ? Are they looking to replace Baker, or play next to him ? or a DE to replace Smith ? Here is a good list; WalterFootball.com: 2017 NFL Draft: Defensive End Rankings
They better decide on whether or not the 3-4 stays soon. If it is kept, you will need a couple LBs to be acquired in the offseason along with a bona fide NT, along with the obvious DTs that should be the top priority. IF they go to the 4-3 Kerrigan can go back being a DE and possibly become a real beast again. Draft any defensive line stud there is!!!!! We will have a nice unit if a couple seasons. I just hope Kirk doesn't get too greedy and lets us just give him a longer deal so we can keep a decent amount of cap space to get a solid team setup for a change. |

Manusky already said he's sticking with the 3-4. He wants a big NT, but didn't say they had to draft one. I'm not sure there is a current stud NT out there, but with Tomsula on board, he may be able to coach some guy up. Either way, we can always find room for a stud DE (Chris Baker needs re-signed), so we actually still need 2 DE's right now. Trent Murphy may be asked to move to DE again this year, but Galette is no guarantee to return either. |

Kerrigan, Smith, and Murphy are not good OLBs. And to small as 3-4 DT/DEs. What are they going to do, play 5 LBs with two down lineman in passing situations ? Hopefully this is a smokescreen by Manusky and they plan to play a 4-3, like they did a significant amount last year. |

I wouldn't mind if we took him at all. He would most certainly help in the run game. I think we need a traditional TE that can move people off the ball. |
