Re: Ugly week 1 again... Post game thread.
My Grades:
QB = F Constant overthrows; Bad INT in the red zone; Could have been another for pick 6 if the Eagles D could catch; Folds like a lawn chair in the pocket when there's pressure; Just a sickly performance O-Line = D- Can't get ANY push, constantly playing in the backfield; Missed assignments; Complete whiffs; RBs need to be Houdini to get any yards at all. Was Kirk our leading rusher? RBs = Not evaluated 'cause there was nowhere to go. (CT's TD was nice so he gets a gold star for that) WRs/TEs = D+ (Pryor = F) I didn't realize Pryor had problems catching the ball. If the QB is as bad as he was yesterday, you have to take advantage of the ones that are catchable. Doctson? Crowder? Reed? D-Line = C Pressure here and there, but many times couldn't get Wentz down resulting in big plays. Did nothing in the second half that is noteworthy. Z Brown = A Was all over the place. Secondary = B (Fuller = A+) Looked solid all day long except when Wentz had three hours to scramble and throw the ball. Sp Teams = D Crowder fumble (probably would have resulted in a 3 & out anyway); Kick returns were a joke. Coaching = F+ D looked better and ready to play, but I felt they got weaker and weaker as the game went on. O wasn't ready for this game at all and that is 99.9% on the coaches. |
Re: Ugly week 1 again... Post game thread.
47% of the league lost yesterday. Some of those teams will be in the playoffs. If Kirk doesn't get his shit together, and the O-line doesn't get their shit together this team won't be one of them. It's probably all 'fixable', but I am starting to have my doubts about the coaching aspect. This team rarely (being generous) looks ready for big games.
|
Re: Ugly week 1 again... Post game thread.
Oh yeah, let me definitely give props to Chris Thompson. That was a BIG boy run even though he's a little dude. Nice to see some passion on the offensive side of the ball.

Yea and we get a good Oakland team on PT TV in 2 weeks..... |

KC had too many throws off his back foot, and the way he was sailing throws it was obvious his mechanics were way off.

Forcing some throws too. He doesn't trust what's going on in front of him anymore. The O-line play has clearly declined, and he is fully aware of it. |
Re: Ugly week 1 again... Post game thread.
Maybe fewer three WR sets next week so someone is actually in to block. Our WRs SHOULD be able to get open.

Can our DBs hold on to a pick please??
We had the game until he threw that int. That killed us and u could see it. Kirk chokes under pressure, not a good sign. He did last year in week 17 .
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G920A using Tapatalk
Unfortunately, it's not just week 17, it's anytime/game where he needs to respond to pressure (especially in the red zone). He had 2 great chances to show that he deserved a new, big contract and threw a horrible INT on one drive and fumbled away the last chance effort. Not worth a big contract. |

Watching Breeland and Fuller yesterday was awesome. Breeland plays like that all year our secondary will be good and his pockets will be fat. Win win. |
Re: Ugly week 1 again... Post game thread.
Covering tight ends and making plays on 3rd down are still a WIP. However, run defense was good, and overall the D just seems way better.
I'm not worried about our WRs if healthy. The o-line is very disconcerting though, and Cousins seems to be the exact same. If the o line can't run block and Cousins continues to fold under pressure, we're in for another mediocre season. Where is the fire in the o line? Push some mother effers around!! |
Re: Ugly week 1 again... Post game thread.
For what it's worth, Cooley blamed the dropped Eagles pick at the beginning of the game on Pryor. He said he was suppose to come back to the ball and didn't and left KC out to dry. Grant had the same route on the other side and came back to the ball.
|
Re: Ugly week 1 again... Post game thread.
I liked that they threw to Grant, and I like that he caught what was thrown to him. If he becomes a dependable catcher than all the better for our offense. BUT Doctson and Pryor are "supposed" to be our 1/2 punch. Seeing Grant in, means that our offensive players are behind the curve at the start of the season. That is on coaching and front office decisions.

They drafted the guy from California. Could happen later this season. |
Re: Ugly week 1 again... Post game thread.
There were some very good individual efforts yesterday -- Thompson (only one on offense, as far as I am concerned), Brown (wow), Foster, Bree, Fuller, and Norman (Jeffries was a non-factor) -- but in the main, it was an uninspired and completely unimaginative performance by the team and coaches. And in a home opening against a division rival that we have owned for the last few years? There's simply no excuse for it.
The play-calling was awful. I am sure I am not alone in saying that I predicted about 75% of what we ended up running, and I have to believe if I can do so, then Jim Schwartz (or any D coordinator) surely could do so with probably near perfect accuracy. At the outset of the game, my buddy said, "Watch them go deep to Pryor on the first play but overthrow him." Bingo. It was like that all day. Honestly, I am going to make that into a drinking game, except I will drink only when I get it wrong, lest I be tanked well before halftime. I have been a fan of Gruden, but does anyone think that a team coached by Parcells, Cowher, or Jon Gruden -- just to use a few examples -- would have let their team start the season like that? It's so damn frustrating. They had damn well better show up to play next week in LA. I don't care that it's a cross country trip -- I know that no one would excuse my performance at work when I am traveling. Man the F up and do your job. That was one of the more frustrating experiences I have had since -- oh, since we blew chunks in week 17 last season. |
Re: Ugly week 1 again... Post game thread.
I haven't heard the national media mention one word about that bullshit replay call that ended the game yesterday. what a crock of shit.

No disagreement here. I am not sure what they should do about the O-line. But I think they have to do something -- the definition of insanity is trying the same thing and expecting a different result. The Eagles are stout up front (and well, coached, I hate to say), but there are a few D lines that will challenges us as they did -- LAR, Giants (2X), Seattle, and Chiefs come to mind. They need to figure it out, and fast. |

I just don't see them moving possibly the best LT in football to G. That's just not normal. I'd like to see Long at LG and Chase at C 1st before even thinking about moving Trent. But something different definitely needs to be tried. And the 5 that do play need to be way more intense. |
Re: Ugly week 1 again... Post game thread.
Complete front office mismanagement not to cut Luavo and sign a better LG this offseason. There were 5-6 better options out there and we did nothing. Terrible management

Right -- and to be clear, when I said no disagreement, I was not referring to moving Trent away from being the LT, but to the comment re: Cousins' performance. But I do think they have to consider doing something with the O-line, and if Chase seems ready to take the reins at C, then sliding Long to LG makes good sense. I think folks had assumed that this might happen eventually, but perhaps poor play hastens this process. |
Re: Ugly week 1 again... Post game thread.
Its hard to find a unit on the team that performed well, except maybe corners.
I picked the skins at 5-11 this year, but i'll still give them another game or two to get things figured out. They have way too many roster, coaching, management issues to really be successful. |

Certian teams, us being one of them, the league doesn't care if they get screwed or not. If this was any number of teams, they'd talk about it for hours upon hours. But its the Skins, so under the rug it goes. |

snyder is a billionaire, that means he knew basic business at some point.he has picked nothing but shitty football people since he bought the team, vinny, shanny, allen, and everything from the pro scouts have shit the bed since he hired them with the exception of scotty m.how the hell does he not see how they have all just been total failures.malcolm kelly, rod gardner, jason campbell,rg3,all basically complete failures as players, and now doctson. how the hell is the guy that blind?

Re: Ugly week 1 again... Post game thread.
Moses got big money & looks like he stopped trying. All the poor play we saw in pre-season really did carry over to the season.
We may very well be 0-4 & then, cue the music.... next to come will be the all important "players only" meeting where the senior members of the locker room will magically be able to motivate everyone & have players performing above their potential. (OK, that's tongue in cheek...too many years of watching garbage in & garbage out). I've been a big Jay G proponent, but I'm really losing faith in him. Just doesn't seem to have the "it" factor. He gets out-coached too often. He should've grown into the role by now, but we're sure not seeing much growth. |

Nope, Eli is getting tired of getting killed back there and I don't blame him.Reese should be fired! They have known all along they needed O line men. |

You know you're depressed when you wish Checkdown Sam was your QB. He just dropped some dimes on that TD drive.

Re: Ugly week 1 again... Post game thread.
Bradford when protected is as good as anyone. When he's not protected he's an injury waiting to happen. Saints are not getting near him and he's making them pay.

So even during the 4-12 debacle in 09, you were still proud of this team? I mean yeah we looked mediocre in some phases yesterday, but it's a little early to panic for the rest of the year. |
Re: Ugly week 1 again... Post game thread.
I just finished rewatching the game.
The Oline had a few miscues, but after watching again, I don't think they had as bad a game as I thought yesterday. Not surprisingly, Kirk Cousins still looked like he was the biggest culprit of this loss. He was inaccurate all day even when not pressured. He did string together three drives where he moved the ball, and if they hadn't given up on the run, they may have fared better, but that interception in the Redzone was the game. Pryor is another major culprit with all his drops and loosing the ball in the sun and a couple bad routes. He did show some ability in he short game, but they had three deep shots that they didn't connect on, if those start to hit this offense is instantly good again. Rob Kelley was another culprit, Jay got away from the run too quickly for sure, but Kelly has to make more of his opportunities, there were a couple of plays where he fought and got every yard available, but the vast majority he was making the wrong cuts not following his blocks and running back inside into defenders instead of continuing toward the outside to daylight. I think he also missed a couple of blitz pickups. Chris Thompson on the other hand was a beast, and the offense ran better with him in. I'd like to see Thompson get more of the carries and I'd like to see what Perine can do. Defensively the 2 main culprits were Everette and Swearinger, they both made some plays, but most of the big plays were against them. Hopefully they get on the same page, and I certainly saw flashes of Swearingers ability, but loosing Cravens is such a shame because he was our best bet against TEs and No one could cover Ertz again. The corners on the other hand were had very few plays against them and consistently covered well. If they start catching balls they could be the best CB core in the league. The front 7 had mixed results. It seems to be a vast improvement from last year. Our Run D is stout, and we did generate a lot of pressure when we rushed 4-5 , but our 3 man rush gets no push at all. Allen quietly had a very solid first game making tackles at the line, taking on double teams, generating a push up he middle, and chasing the QB around, but he did miss a couple sack opportunities and got lost on two run plays that he could have impacted, but I expect he will be a force this season. Preston Smith is playing well, in a sack or two, generally creating a lot of pressure. Kerrigan is probably the Defensive MVP. Not only from the great Pick six, but he has the most burst off of the line and impacted Wentz more than anyone possibly. Gallete showed some flashes, he is quick, I didn't see him in as often as I'd like to on passing downs. Foster and Brown are a legit MLB duo. They are the reason our run D is improved. The new guys on the line help, but Foster and Brown were all over the place, but they aren't so great in coverage, which is a liability. I think that opposing Offenses are going to have the short game on us all year, but if Swearinger and the CBs can hold it down deep, this D can keep us in games, but methodical passers will march down the field, unless they can continue to and increase their turnovers then they will continue to be a liability if given short fields and are kept on the field for too long. Bottom line, Cousins and Pryor need to get on the same page fats because if they do then this D is improved enough that they will be a better team from last year. I'll give them a pass because it's the first game of the season and if you look around the league it was a theme in week one that good QBs had bad games. Cousins has a lot to prove, he put a target on his back yesterday. If he is our franchise QB, he will rise to the occasion, if not he either fizzles out completely this year without Garçon and Jackson or does what he has the past two seasons, play well enough to stay in contention late in the season and then break our hearts again. My money is on them having another year like the last 2. If that's the case, is there any hope of retaining Cousins, and would you want to? He is the best Redskins QB I have ever really gotten to watch, so in my heart I want to see him breakout finally into elite status, but a QB that is really effective until the Redzone, the 4th quarter, and the end of the season when it counts is too much of a liability to command so much of the cap space. The season goes as Cousins goes, and so does his future here. |
Re: Ugly week 1 again... Post game thread.
^ nice job. I think on defense, our safeties were the only weaknesses...couple miss tackles and the big play.
The offense to me was inexcusable...right side of oline, cousins and Pryor really disappointed. Jay needs to do a better job getting the run going. |

Re: Ugly week 1 again... Post game thread.
The Rams defense is no picnic.... at all.
I don't like the fact that Crowder is highlighted by opposing defensive gameplans. He was having a field day within the shadow of Djax / Garcon... heck and Reed. Now its left to him to find space. I mean for him to have the game he did. He was always a safety net for Kirk. He was smothered that game. Kirk will play better moving forward. |
