Maybe we should have traded our entire set of draft picks (a la Mike Ditka) to move up and get Quentin Nelson.

Solid read.

I sure hope you're right.
The fact that he battled through depression actually makes me think he's more likely to win the battle in training camp: he definitely would have been drafted if it wasn't for this issue, and maybe not in the late rounds, so talent isn't an issue here!
Plus he has to be stronger mentally know, being able to be open about it.

Man I’m just trying my camp preseason hero enthusiasm ready...welsh, Stroman, quinn...lots of good choices.

The grade on welsh though is fairly solid for an udfa...

Plus...I would love another Iowa Guard who is a beast. Schreff makes for a solid mentor.

Actually Think the entire NFC East did really well...ID give skins cowboys and giants all A. Eagles I’d give a B+...but bump it to an A because they totally jump ahead of the Cowboys and took the boys TE pick. And I love how the cowboys totally lied and said they weren’t taking a TE there...complete bs.

Barkley, Zeke, Guice\Perine, and every Eagles RB contributed in a top rushing attack in the league.....looks like we could finally be getting back to old skool NFC East football.

just listened to Cooley's break down on 3rd rounder Christian.

He is super high and says he has the talent to start this year in a pinch.

If his head is on straight, sounds like he is a great pick.

And, considering how the 3rd round pick was acquired, trading back in the 2nd, it makes it even better.

Cooley's Safety Troy Apke Film review.

The Good News: he can contribute to special teams

The Bad News: He is a terrible safety who doesn't play his position very well. Tackling issues at safety but those issues don't appear on Special Teams. He thinks too much at the safety position...which is bad bad news when your doing it on the college level already and its gonna get worse at the NFL level.

Cooley wouldn't say it, but Kevin did...this was a big time reach. Cooley said this was strictly a combine pick where his forty numbers and his vert got him drafted 2 rounds too high. Cooley said his tape at safety is absolutely not a 4th round grade.

Do you reach for a player with only special team value...and not kicking or returning the ball....but tackling a ball carrier?

The answer is no. bad pick

Tim Settle pick makes up for this garbage though...so not too mad.

John Keim and few other analysts emphasized this pick is purely based on Apke's athleticism. We have good DB coach in Gray, I suppose Redskins believe Gray can coach him up. Apke would become a steal if Apke is able to learn well.

If anybody can coach him up is Gray....I just think you take those type of players in the 6th round, not 4th. Im gonna go back and look who was there...but there were better BPA.

If he is not instinctive, and thinks too much at the college level, then the NFL is going to be too fast mentally for him.

With that athleticism, he only started his senior year.

Probably will be a bad pick, a reach.

Keep in mind that there were 60 picks until our next pick. If Gray, or a college scout was super high on this guy, they may have felt he wouldn't make it 60 more picks. I tend to think this pick is one that somebody in the decision tree stood on the table for(figuratively) and said he was worth the risk.

He was versatile and switched as the coaching staff needed him to at Penn State. I think he's a guy you give to coach Gray, and let him figure out what to do with him.

Since he looks to be a special teams ace, you have the time to turn him into a valuable piece on the defense.

This was on my mind after we made the pick...I thought the same thing about Nicholson. But Cooley kinda put me more in a back mood because of the pick.

torian gray does know what he is doing...transformed Nicholson into a decent starter and raised Fuller's level to probowl type level.

Mmmh, Cooley began his breakdown with "uncomfortable in the back pedal"... not a good thing for a safety... "below just a guy at safety right now"...

One thing though, he initially was a receiver, he switched to DB in college, so maybe he still has things to learn at this position and really could get coached up.

Let's hope they did see something others didn't... and if it doesn't pan out, hey they missed on a 4th rounder in a draft that began with us finally drafting a solid NT, getting a 3rd rounder back, drafting a promising RB in the 2nd and apparently a potential steal swing tackle in the 3rd, and then founding another good NT in the 5th round... nothing to get really crazy about.

This may be one of the best 7th round pick ever. Cooley said he wouldn't have considered it a reach had we picked him in the 4th.

Only negatives were "he's a little stiff as a runner" (but it doesn't really slow him down) and "the Pats didn't draft him", which Cooley didn't understand... In fact, he has no idea why he sled all the way down to the 7th round.

Positives: great production from high school to college, great competitor, super smart player, solid hands, incredibly smart route runner, can sell any route.

Not your #1 scare the defense deep threat guy, but Cooley sees him earning his fair share of snaps and making plays.

Listening now...Cooley is going off about this guy saying he will play 40% of the offense this year. Cooley saying great route runner can play inside and out.

Looks like Gruden has found his new Ryan Grant.

Re: Draft grades

I think when you take into consideration the fact that our 3rd safety is Deshazor Everett, a guy who is limited athletically but knows the position well, it makes more sense to reach for the athleticism.

Apke looks like the boom or bust type of player, it's hard to envision an in-between. I don't mind taking the flyer when you've already got solid but limited. We don't need solid but limited.

I agree he's ok but I think we have a general bad feeling about him because he had some "I'm to scared to deliver" moments 2 seasons ago, I remember an onside kick where he had a clean opportunity to recover the ball and just F'd it up...
Agreed he does whatever you ask him to, which is valuable, but I'm not sure he's wowing anybody with any aspect of his game.
