I wouldn't cut Norman, but would look to lessen his cap and overall salary...I think he would be willing because he wont make premium money on the market.

I'd do the same with Reed, I think he would be willing as well.

We need to get a young QB on the roster, but I don't think we are pressed to spend a 1st round on one unless we really like the guy. I think we should continue to build the running game with Guard, a second TE to replace Davis who provides better blocking. Id give Peterson a chance to re-up on a one year deal and pair him with Guice. Id keep CT and Bibbs...cut Perine and Kelly.

But Im firing Bruce Allen for sure...unless this is done, I have zero belief in this franchise.

I don't know if Im getting rid of Jay, but Im firing the O Coordinator and bring in a vet OC to run the offense. There should be some decent ones available.
Jay is the o-coordinator. I think there might be a guy there with the title, but it's name only. IIRC Jay said he would resume coordinator responsibilities with McVay gone. I know he's def. the playcaller though.

Which leads to my next point: If true, Jay needs to hire someone to be the main o-coordinator and run the offense. If he stays I would prefer he focus all his time on HC responsibilities.
So basically what you're saying is replace most of the team?? lol. It's pretty simple for me, if we have better QB play we have a chance to win the game, despite all the bad shit that happened we could have won if we have a better QB. That can erase a whole lot of bad. I love Colt be he isn't a 16 game starter.
Hold up now, haven’t you been saying since the Smith trade went down that you thought Colt could have handled the job?

Yes, but I have also said regardless of how Colt plays, good or bad, we have to draft a Qb within the first couple rounds. Colt could lead us to the playoffs and we have a deep playoff run and QB should still be the #1 priority.

Both QBs are on the wrong side of 30 so it makes sense to Draft a QB.
But we are stuck with the Smith/McCoy show for at least one more year so let’s hope the best QB gets the job regardless of their pay.
Yep, lol. That's 11 or 12 guys. Between the draft and FA its doable and imo needed. I want a young defense led my nasty DL.

Forgot to include, I'd extend Swearinger. Him and Allen would be good defensive leaders.
Ok and out of those 11 or 12 that you want, how many do you think they'll hit on? Fact is 1/2 of 1st rounders turn out to be busts. Same w/ free agency and trades.. look at our own free agents? Most have been subpar signings.

Yeah this pretty much...still think you leverage it by building a stronger run game in the mean time.

Also, Keim has mentioned this, but we need to add more speed...at WR...Quinn looks he has it in the slot, Paul rich supposedly has it-but injured...we need more speed. CT has it but injured, but I’m bringing him back because we need the threat on the field.

Rich can walk AFAIC. He is a one-trick pony on a team with no qb that can complete the trick. Bad fit, and bad money for a guy who can't stay on the field. Time to do some scouting, maybe bring in a guy who's getting squeezed out by a team with too much depth. We could draft a guy but he'd take years to develop (not a fan unless it's an ODB type in the draft).

Well he back at least another year with the new contract. I think doctson needs to fight for a spot though.

IMO, I would love to see a Kenny stills/Jon brown type player here..not gonna break the bank. Good speed/vet/route running.

A.J. Brown in the 1st round and Ryan Finley in the 2nd round.

A.J. Brown, Paul Richardson, Trey Quinn, Josh Doctson, and Maurice Harris.

I could get down with that.

If you look at the top teams in the NFL, they all have excellent or premiere QB. The only way we are going to get such a player for the Redskins is to draft him. Draft him in the first round. Going into the second and third round for a QB is not going to do it.

The first thing the Redskins need to do is to fire Bruce Allen. He nor Dan Snyder should not be involved with any personnel decisions, especially if we are going to draft a QB in the first round.

The Redskins need to go for it and get the best QB in the draft, that they can. That is the future for this franchise.

Hail!

If we draft a QB in the 1st, I'm fine with it. My preference would be to wait till the 2nd. Not sure there is a QB good enough that is worth the 20thish pick tho.

Does Doctson play special teams? Can’t have a backup WR who doesn’t contribute on teams.

Good point. He's on the team next year tho imo, so they'll have to figure STs out.

Keep trying at qb til you get one.

I just don't want to bet the farm on another RG3 type trade that kills the team for years to come if he is anything but top tier.

I also agree about speed. The Rams Chiefs game says it all. Speed is where it's at now. Either of those teams would hang 60 on us if we couldn't run it.

Re: Alex Effect - 2019 Draft

Just because we made the wrong decision on RG3 doesn't mean we shouldn't draft for a QB or even trade picks to get a higher draft pick in the first round.

We're not going to get a top tier QB unless we draft for him. The AS deal means that we are cap limited to go out and buy another veteran QB.

The best teams in the NFL all have the best QB. We need to draft to get one of our own! Do it!

Just make sure that Bruce Allen is not making this decision on the QB to draft. He's not a personnel guy and is not a good judge of talent.

The RG3 trade was ridiculous. It hurt the team for years. And KC was a 4th round pick. They should probably use a 5th or 4th (trade up) on a QB. Not all great NFL QBs are top 10 picks.

Considering I keep hearing that this draft is QB weak it sucks that this could be the draft philosophy for the spring.

The draft is a crap shoot. College offenses are so QB driven now that u really don't know who is good and who is just a system guy.

That and some have such a huge edge in the talent of the supporting cast over most of their opponents. A lot of USC quarterbacks look great in College due to the fact they have 5 seconds to throw to guys who are open by 3 yards. Who is the best QB to come out of Southern Cal in the last 50 years, Carson Palmer?

Re: Alex Effect - 2019 Draft

Even if the Redskins have to trade up to get a QB they should do it....I said the other day that they should take Tyree Jackson....maybe they should draft Will Grier...Colt McCoy wants to be a starter....but the problem with #12 is his inconsistencies....depending on how Colt plays these next 5 games will reveal if he's truly the starter he think he is....if he plays inconsistent like he played at Dallas even if he has a few good games these next few weeks the front office would be very wise to draft a QB...given the 8-10 month timetable that it will take for Alex Smith to return...if Smith returns...

...

Just how the cap works, plus he had injury guarantees in the contract

Simply the result of having a hard cap. It's not a mystery. That's why they call it guaranteed and if it's guaranteed it has to be accounted for on the salary cap. Maybe there should be an exemption you can apply for in terms of calamatous type injuries, but that's the risk that comes with fully guaranteed or close to fully guaranteed contracts.

I believe as long as Alex is on the roster for 5 days in 2019 the cap hit isn't onerous. We will have 1/3 paid this year, and then about 24M the next two year assuming we get a rookie, and Colt doesn't screw us by voiding his contract and forcing a starters deal (and if Thursday's game is any indication he won't have a leg to stand on for that - yes bad pun suck it up cupcakes).

Right now we are at 21Million free cap next year, so it will feel like the years of the cap penalty, but it is in fact what it is, and it's not going to change so the team just has to reset and push forward.

sandtrapjack 11-26-2018 12:43 PM

Re: Alex Effect - 2019 Draft

So IF AS cannot play, this draft is not exactly what we would call 'quarterback rich'. But there is talent to be found in every position, in every draft. Just have to know where to scratch.

This is a reach, but I believe with the emergence of Lamar Jackson that Joe Flacco is being shown the door, or at least handed his hat. He could be a good bridge/vet backup to a team looking for just such a role.

skinsfaninok 11-26-2018 01:18 PM

Re: Alex Effect - 2019 Draft

Just sucks if we get screwed out of this deal due to a shattered leg.. I know its part of the business but still. As for Lamar , he's not a passer and we all know what that is like (RG3) So its only a matter of time until he gets injured running as well. Not wishing that on him but lets be serious here. I'd take Flacco for a couple years but he wont be cheap enough for that. Colt Mccoy is not a starting QB and he will be the biggest reason we don't make the playoffs. Everyone keeps saying we have an easy schedule... When u dont have a QB nothing is easy.

Chico23231 11-26-2018 01:23 PM

Re: Alex Effect - 2019 Draft

Really don't want to see Joe Flac-go-eat-a-bowl-of-dicks as QB for the Skins. I think there a couple solid QBs in the draft in the mid rounds who could get reps as behind Colt and then take over.

skinsfaninok 11-26-2018 01:28 PM

Re: Alex Effect - 2019 Draft

Flacco is not that bad but again he would still cost too much for what we would need him for.

I'm still hopeful Colt can shake off the rust, still, he needs help. We're not going anywhere unless the running game gets cranking again and the D tightens up. I'm worried that AP has hit the wall.

A legit concern. I worried last week that the paths he was taking on his runs were determined by whether he wanted to avoid getting hit on his injured shoulder. We all know he's playing banged up.
