A good list, how much would you pay for Hooper?

Rumor is Greg Olsen could be released soon would you take him too, I would.

I'd go with that list too but not Olsen. Too many injuries recently, could be Reed mk 2.

Unlikely to see FA but I'd go for Henry. Hitting his prime and thanks to Rivers getting worse last season, maybe slightly undervalued.

4-5 years, ~$10M-$12M/year, guarantee ~1/3 of it.

I would pass on Olsen.

Paying Hooper $10-12M annually is still cheaper than paying both Reed and Davis

Dunbar is on the last year of his contract. Would he take a 4/40 w 20 guaranteed? I think he might want 12 plus in AAV.

edit - thinking about it. I myself am not sold that Dunbar is a CB1. I think he is a CB2 and there are some injury propensity concerns.

I would not resign Dunbar unless it was a team friendly 4/40 w most of the guaranteed money in the first 2 years.

I want to see how he does in 2020 before I would commit to a legit LTD.

Olsen had 52 receptions last year and a small contract. They need a veteran. I would take a chance.

Definitely a possibility too. But wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if he ended up here.

Overthecap has an interesting article about the differences that teams face this year in regards to the cap because it is the last year of the deal. One thing that may impact us, that I didn't realize, is that there is no June 1st cut option to defer salary cap hits. This would impact Alex Smith the most I think.

Very Interesting. Thanks for sharing, CR.

All early indications are that a new CBA will get done soon, as these negotiations do not seem to be as contentious as previous ones. Right now, i'm looking forward to 17 regular season weeks, two bye weeks per team, and an expanded playoffs.

That would be an exciting season. The two-bye per season gives you two places recuperate and change direction. They eliminate one of the meaningless preseason games. I never understood the fourth preseason game. No one important plays. It just gives you a look at guys on the bubble who won’t be on the team.

Having a vet TE that knows our OC AND can be a coach on the field would be a wise investment in the wisdom of age. Draft the most promising TE in the 4th or 5th round, but let Olsen be that guy Haskins knows will always be in the right place and not make stupid mistakes.

Yeah, I’m not interested in FA coming here for a 2-year paycheck at the end of their career. Don’t hire a FA over 30. Build this team to grow together with Haskins.

We absolutely need the best TE FA who is under 30. That may be Hooper, but this is the absolute #1 priority for the team. Reed and Davis are gone and their cap will fund a youth movement!!

In a perfect world, yes. Once an iron man, but 2017 7 games, 2018 9 games and last year 14...35 years old start of season. We can’t keep shooting ourself in the foot.

I’d rather spend a large number on a TE in prime and aim for a prospect in the 3, 4 or 5th round. Bring in another young guy as the 3rd TE/special teamer. I just don’t think we have a luxury to take on Olsen.

Plus Olsen is calling games and in a transition role. I need someone 110% in.

Heck maybe he doesnt make the final 52, but he would be a good addition especially early on in the season.

Redskins Salary Cap Status - 2020

We’ve tried older TEs who got hurt year after year and were gone for most of the whole season. We’ve got to try a different narrative. Hire a YOUNG, elite TE where he can grow with Haskins. Draft a TE. But we need at least one big, strong , YOUNG, sure-handed TE.

Original post updated to reflect the release of Josh Norman, saving the team $12.4M in cap space in 2020.

I also removed Trent from the likely to be traded or released, given the positive conversations had between Ron and him recently. Anything's possible still but this is my crystal ball, dammit.

If the players want some leverage they should be willing to give up trying to control commissioner discipline powers.

BigHairedAristocrat 02-14-2020 01:08 PM

Re: Redskins Salary Cap Status - 2020

After cutting Norman and Richardson, we have the 9th most cap space of any team. Once we cut Reed, we'll be 6th.

We will have plenty of room to resign our own guys and be big players in free agency.

So on Richardson, does the 6M dead money all accelerate to this season?

Exactly, yeah. So the net savings on the cap this year is only $2.5M. You have to eat the $6M in dead cap, but you get rid of $8.5M in salary, hence net $2.5M savings.

Addition by subtraction, irrespective of the cap impact. This makes room for a 4th round rookie or some such who could occupy the roster spot and actually contribute something even if only on teams.

That's a big number and the other big one is Ryan K...tea leaves say he will probably sign an extension which should reduce our cap number.

I think Trent is all but back at the moment.

Once Reed is taken care of...turn attention towards Scherff, Dunny, and possible Flowers extensions.

Go into Free Agency with a clearer picture. Maybe even with Olsen on the team by then.

Also, people need to pump the brakes on the "let's get rid of Kerrigan" train.

If I were a betting man, I would say that he will be extended on a team friendly deal. I don't think he's going to expect to be a starter and I think his leadership will be key, given how many young players we have on the d-line. Also, he wants to stick around, so I see no downside on him staying.

I would not pay Kerrigan $12.8 million because he is a good guy. He needs much more production.
