Re: In memory of our REDSKINS
I cant even consider it caving, either. Ds did everything in his power to keep the team name. This is a singular point in time that this could happen. I'm not getting political or anything like that....but when the sponsors pull, it's like monopoly...when you start mortgaging your properties to pay rent to others....the game is just about over. At this point I dont think ds had much of a choice. If he didnt change, who knows....the franchise may well have dissolved, or moved cities. I think he is changing the name to save the team.
I hope that other teams fans have a little respect in this situation, as I'm sure they have memories as well about times in their franchises history that are dear to them. The divisional rivalries were always a sight to see....like I said...win or lose, it was always something we could all get together on and share time and moments. Not that we cant anymore...its just..........different
Agreed. Saw something on twitter (not taking this as gospel) that it was not just FedEx and Nike making noise. Apparently they were campaigning behind the scenes to get other big sponsors to jump on the bandwagon. Not even 100% convinced it was Snyder's doing. Would not be surprised if Goddell and several of the other owners told him the name had to change or they would force him out. No, do not have anything to back up that claim, just speculating. I have said the name will not change until it starts to have a negative impact on their profits. Will miss the Giants-"Redskins" rivalry. Just hoping that they keep it as close to the current brand as possible. I know they are keeping the colors which I think is great. Hoping "Red" is in the name, so my first choice is Redtails. Hoping they keep the Wordmark, hoping they keep the "R" (logo on the hat Gibbs wore for years), and hoping they Keep the tune for Hail to the Redskins and alter it as little as possible. |

Ok these are actually cool
Not a fan of all gold, but like the idea. Although, I would have the tips of the wings in burgundy on the logo. Love that R (that I mentioned in the other post). |
Re: In memory of our REDSKINS
Do not like the all gold at all!!!! I do hope they keep the same colors, burgundy and gold with the emphasis on burgundy.

Re: In memory of our REDSKINS
I agree with the first three paragraphs 100%. My problem with the last paragraph is that I don't think DS's business ownership had as much to do with the team name still having support as winning would have. If the team had two decades of winning vs two decades of losing under his ownership that might have fostered some goodwill that gave him and the team name the benefit of the doubt.
I agree. Fans and community is top. That is why I mentioned it first (I think?) If the DMV still loved the Skins this would be a moo(t) point. |

I could live with that. I CAN NOT live with some Redtail or Wolf crap. It just doesn't mesh with our brand. |
Coming out and saying we're never going to change the name and you can put that in all caps was a big mistake by Snyder. When you draw a line in the sand and make it clear that something isn't up for debate or a rational discussion, don't be surprised when the other side comes back with an equally hard headed response.
No it wasn't. If Floyd was pulled over by good cops we wouldn't even be here. There wouldn't have been a mob. |

Is this mob like the caravan at the southern border that disappeared into thin air or is it real? I never knew the right was so paranoid.

The team already said they're not wearing head-to-toe gold when Nike tried to make them wear those trash color rush uniforms. |

The owner also said he was never changing the name. The league said no team could br forced to be featured on Hard Knocks. Point is, Nike is paying the league a lot of money. If they want the Skins in all gold and make enough of a stink, they will win out in the end. Same if they want the Giants in all Blue like a collection of Smurfs. |

One of his few moves I agreed with! I actually loved that he brought back the gold pants. I like these looks best: |

Re: In memory of our REDSKINS
Let’s not be too hard on Snyder for breaking his “never change the name” promise. Here are his other (unspoken) “nevers” —
I’ll never draft a #1 who isn’t interested in hanging around with me at my mansion. I’ll never hire an executive who disagrees with my decisions. I’ll never hire a PR person who speaks honestly to the press. I’ll never get over my giddy delusion that I’m in charge of the 1980s era team. I’ll never believe that we’re more than one draft or one hire away from being a playoff team. I will never admit that I’m responsible for turning this franchise into an embarrassment. If Snyder won’t sell, then the next best thing is to break him, and this rebranding (whatever you think about the cultural shifts that led to it) may do that. I still have a worry that he will f up the rebranding, but let’s keep the pressure on. For me that means, minimally (1) burgundy and gold, (2) “Red” in the name. There’s already a Warriors franchise, and personally I’d rather be Wolves fan than a Tails fan. Better to howl when we score than . . . shake our butts? |
Re: In memory of our REDSKINS
Per Yahoo sports
As it pertains to the Red Wolves trademark fight between Arkansas State and the USL, spoke to one of the parties involved and they haven’t heard from the #NFL, Dan Snyder or anyone else in the Washington franchise. Doesn’t mean they won’t engage later. But that’s where it is now. This is leading me to believe it won't be Redwolves |

So back to the memories theme of the thread...
The two highlights from RG3 that I think of first: *The first TD pass against New Orleans. I have a picture of this in a plaque on my gym wall. I like that a lot actually.
Ditch the gray facemask for burgundy. |
Re: In memory of our REDSKINS
^^^ those look pretty good, gold may be too shiny but thats the best ive seen.
Would shiny helmets like that be a very small but still compititve disadvantage? Makes it just slightly easier for a defender to detect in their peripheral? i guess on the same note, perhaps slightly easier for a scrambling QB to see the flash from an open player. im probably looking too much into it. |
Re: In memory of our REDSKINS
Yeah I'm a big fan of the shiny helmet look tho. This has the most realistic look of an NFL team so far

My son wears this batting helmet in Little League. I was more worried about the ump saying he can't wear it due to glare than getting an advantage. Nothing has been said yet, 5 games in. The NFL's one-helmet rule doesn't. That killed off our leather helmets. |
