It makes sense that with only 3 RBs it was to keep 7 WRs, they must really like Dax Milne and very confident of getting Barber back on the Practice Squad

John Keim
@john_keim · 2m In checking the list, Washington also waived LBs Jared Norris and David Mayo. Both were special teams players mostly. That leaves them with 4 LBs. That's a low figure. Can't imagine it stays that way. |
Re: Predicting the final 53
So as far as the 2nd string LBs go it seems Ron and JDR did actually see the same games we were watching.. interesting to see what happens now

I would expect news soon regarding a LB signing - or two. |

I think it speaks volumes to the weakness of the LB group that half were cut. I agree, they have to be bringing in someone, KJ Wright still seems like the obvious target. |
Re: Predicting the final 53
Our LB’s were bad last year and our defense was great. Davis is an obvious upgrade. Our secondary is better so that should help. Im not overly worried. It will be addressed this coming off season for sure. Possibly a slight upgrade with someone out there now for this season. WFT wasn’t built in a day.

I wonder whether Benardrick McKinney and Jordan Hicks are seen as options |

had to look this guy up. 2019 2R by Detroit .. got a 32.1 PFF grade. Honestly Ive never seen anything lower than mid 40s ... I know nothing about the guy. A year ago, sure bring on the young guys, keep an eye on the future. This year? I thinks its who can help the most this year. Like keeping 30 year old journeyman Larsen over Ismael. We want to win now. |
Re: Predicting the final 53
They might be considering Shaka Toney at LB as well.
So, I think Toney will become a SAM LB for us and be used some as an EDGE in nickle to spell Young/Sweat. He did work out at the Senior Bowl as an Off-the-Ball LB, so I see that what he plays if he hopes to make the 53 man roster. If he indeed does slot in at SAM, this is a really solid 7th round pick! - Mark Tyler

He scored a 9.92 Relative Athletic Score out of a possible 10.0. JDR did say they were cross training him at LB and his build is prototypical LB, same size as Jamin. Plus Toney is said to be fast for his size |

I’d also note, FWIW, that he’s #58 - the other D linemen are all in the 90s. All LBs in the 50s. Just sayin’. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Re: Predicting the final 53
I'm not judging the coaching staff on the cuts until I see the PS signings. I'd be surprised if AGG clears waivers but even more surprised if he then didn't get a PS spot. Moreland too, though I don't know how the injury designation affects things. Given our need to bolster our run defence I wouldn't be at odds with going after Wright (and losing Apke in the process).

Re: Predicting the final 53
Did Troy fucking Apke make the team again??? He must be a super likable guy because he sucks at football.

Re: Predicting the final 53
My under the radar surprise non-cut is DL Casey Toohill, none of us talked about him possibly making the team.
|
Re: Predicting the final 53
And we're focused on Apke vs Moreland because we wanted the former cut and the later kept, but maybe Moreland's cut has more to do with what they think of Darryl Roberts. McTyer was a near lock in my mind, but I had questions about Roberts, he made somenice physical plays in PS wk3, maybe they'd like his size and potential to play outside over Moreland's skills as a slot CB.

Yeah Mayo, Norris and Kunaszyk were slow AF, sub par jags. I'm kinda torn: I'm glad they cut them all, it means they know they have to bring in better guys... but then I'm like, we were all screaming "sign a quality vet LB" all offseason, why are they realizing it now ? Who ever the new LBs will be, they could've used the reps in camp... |

Yeah sure he's doing his job. Is this really worth more than a quality slot CB that can play outside and might start somewhere else ? I mean we're gonna have a rookie CB in our nickel package... and he looked good but we could have used the security blanket. |
Re: Predicting the final 53
Well any player would want to be in that over in the signing on the having on a winning SB contender on it there.

Re: Predicting the final 53
Apke was in on 42% of the defensive snaps last year. He's likely the 5th corner out of 6 on this depth chart. My guess is he'll see field less as a corner this year, than he did at safety last year...unless there are injuries of course.
It's odd to see a safety turned into a corner. I'm used to seeing it the other way around - usually later in a corner's career. |

Ow my brain. As for Apke I'm gonna take a stab and say he's one of those guys who works hard but isn't athletically gifted. So yeah his play might never be good but his work ethic keeps him around. |
Re: Predicting the final 53
We need to think of Apke as a ST player in the same way we think of K P and LS. If he sees the field on defense then it is because four other guys are out injured.
|
Re: Predicting the final 53
You simply can not put Apke in at corner ever. That is the dumbest thing to do ever.
|
Re: Predicting the final 53
We do not have quality depth on this team. A couple injuries could be back breaking.
|
Re: Predicting the final 53
I disagree. Your "depth" players are just that. You can’t expect that your 5th/6th CB will come in and ball out. They are special teamers that can hopefully play the position in a pinch if there’s an injury or someone needs a blow. This is our "depth". LB is the obvious position of need. Other than that I would say we are sitting pretty damn good.

I'm actually surprised to feel that good about our OL depth, the guys in at G in that 3rd game were just unwatchable, glad they're cut, but Lucas is a very high quality back up T, Charles has taken some nice strides and can play pretty much any where on the line, and Schweitzer showed he could start at both G positions. Not sure what Tyler Larsen but he was our number 2 center all pre-season and I didn't see anything glaringly ridiculous (a part maybe a pretty shameful stumble in PS week 3). |

I agree. He's a ST player only but a very good one. His roster spot was a gift to the ST coach. |
We do not have quality depth on this team. A couple injuries could be back breaking.
No team has super depth. I think we have good depth except for LB's. Our Dline is probably one of the deepest in the league. IF we have to use a backup QB, I think we will get consistent performance.
I actually think our depth overall, especially with the degree of versatility our roster has, could take a few injuries and still perform. In a 17 game season, that will be critical. Sent from my SM-G973U using Tapatalk |

Every team is a couple key injuries away from being in trouble. Outside of lb and maybe TE I dont think depth is a real issue. |
