They have made multiple Redzone trips, long sustained drives mixing run and pass effectively, only to stop running inside the 20. That has nothing to do with players - that is play calling. They also have backups on their offensive line.

The defense still is giving up over 300 per game I believe.

Most critical need - qb, after that both sides need help.

It has to do with the lack of red zone targets (big WR) and QB with a lackluster arm and accuracy.. It's not always on the coaches, yeah Scott has some bonehead calls but he's also limited with what he has. Terry is the only legit weapon and teams know that..

TH sucks in the RZ. That's the one area of the field where being indecisive and inaccurate will absolutely kill you.

Re: The Too Soon 2022 NFL Draft Thread
I've looked at our last 3 drafts and the more I think about it, the more I come to the conclusion our single biggest mistake in the last 3 years was picking Haskins. Thanks Dan. Had we had a stronger HC (RR?) back then we'd probably never have taken him and instead bided our time to 2020 (the 2019 QB pool was pretty awful aside from Murray).

For me, without the benefit of hindsight, I'd have taken Burns instead, or traded back a few places and taken Fant or Savage (maybe one of the OT's that went next?). That would have addressed TE or S, and left us to pick up a new QB in 2020.

2020 would have depended on how well we did without DH. Say Allen had been starting instead, maybe we'd have had a better record but I doubt it. Assuming we'd still have a top 5 record, then it becomes easier to bypass Young and take Tua or Herbert. Picking 5th would have been ideal as Herbert would likely have fallen into our lap.

Then 2020 season could easily have had us a) winning the division with maybe 10-6 instead of 7-9 record and b) maybe getting someone like Darrisaw to protect Herbert, or if he'd slipped, Davis anyway. Then we'd likely be having a very similar draft to what we actually did.

I know it's ifs and buts, however, it's clear had we not picked DH we'd have every chance of being in a much better position now. Just wish DS would see that and realise he should keep his nose out of draft affairs (if not anything else to do with the roster makeup).
And the ripple effect from taking Haskins was trading back into the 1st rd for Sweat and giving up two 2nd rounders in the process.

Right, so Turner is limited on what he can call... You can't call pass plays that require tight window throws with TH.. In the RZ, that is 90% of the throws you have to make.

True, I think Turner sux their too. While Turner doesn’t deserve the grief he’s gotten…I do think he hasn’t done enough in red zone strat and ops to get it done

He’s calling pass plays because he loves the TH run threat there…yet doesn’t call design QB runs which would benefit the offense there and add another wrinkle for d coordinators to think about

Re: The Too Soon 2022 NFL Draft Thread

Execution hasn't exactly been crisp in the RZ either. TH going down at the one, Terry dropping an easy TD, shit like that doesn't help either.

With Lions likely to be picking first, the Giants with 2 high first rounders and the Eagles with three, two of which will be high, it is more than probable that WFT wont even get a look in on the top quarterbacks unless they are in the top 3 or 4 picks

Re: The Too Soon 2022 NFL Draft Thread

I don't see the Lions going QB with Goff under contract and he makes $$.

Giants won't give up on Jones after 2 years.

Eagles could take a QB for sure.

The rate we are going, we will have a top 5 pick

I like what i have seen from Corral - haven’t seen Liberty live but like what i read about Willis. Corral scares me because of his highlight that is out there. Literally starts with “on two bad ankles” lol. Dude is an absolute tough guy warrior but it freaks me out. Long way away from draft and physicals and all that. I hope they are both given the clean bill of health and available for us. Man we need a fucking quarterback literally like no other team ever.

Lions will not go another year w/ Goff. They'll be in the QB market hands down. Goff may be on the team but I don't see them passing on a QB. He has been awful this year.

Hope so. Feel like Liberty might get spanked.

Didn’t realize it had started. Already getting spanked. Probably a look at one quarterback. Malik just don’t have the supporting cast to showcase his talents like Corral does.

Once he got up against tougher competition he looks totally lost. Holds on to the ball way too long, doesn't seem like he gets through his reads very well. I had a feeling he was a total project. 6th or 7th rounder.

Malik doesn’t exactly have a supporting cast. He is better than he looks today. Liberty < SEC

All that in his head. Billed as battle of future nfl quarterbacks etc. Give him a team he probably looks alot better…

I don't see anyone going for a QB in the top 15 and wouldn't surprise me in the 1st round at all. There are no 1st round QBs for 2022.

Not always in the top 10 - 2013 only one taken at pick 2013 (EJ Manuel) and no one thought he should be drafted in the 1st.

In 2007 Russel did go #1 and Quinn at #22.

This upcoming draft reminds me of those drafts. A smart team desperate for a QB won't draft a QB in the 2022 draft. OK we don't have a smart team so there is that.

From 2010 to 2019, 10 drafts, only 1 had no qbs in the top 15.
2 drafts had 1 drafted in the top 15
2 drafts had 2 drafted in the top 15
5 drafts had 3 or more taken in the top 15.

So always was incorrect, but the chance is far greater that 2 or more will be picked that early rather than one or none.

I think Kenny Pickett is the QB1 of this class. He’s accurate and has a solid arm. A Cousins / Ryan type of passer.

And that is it in a nutshell. Every week a new candidate as the #1 QB in the class. Everyone has a different opinion and various sites usually rank 1-2 QBs on their board for the first round but they all have different ones there - that is a clear indication stay away from QBs in the 1st in the next draft.

Probably no chance the VA QB falls to round 3, but sure would be cool if he did.

8: R1 - P8 OT Charles Cross - Mississippi State
40: R2 - P8 LB Devin Lloyd - Utah
72: R3 - P8 QB Brennan Armstrong - UVA
110: R4 - P8 CB Matt Hankins - Iowa
187: R6 - P8 WR Charleston Rambo - Miami
227: R7 - P8 S Quentin Lake - UCLA

I would be shocked if Armstrong lasted until the 3rd round. He is having an outstanding year. He will be going somewhere in the 1st round.
